I'd recommend this for all women and for men, too, since Judy Resnick teaches you how to be smart about money, which is a lesson everyone should learn.

Review: I bought this book as a gift for my mother. She doesn't like to talk about personal finance very much, but I thought she might enjoy this book and be able to learn something from it at the same time. Sure enough, she enjoyed it and is more comfortable talking about finances than she was she before she read it. Great book.

Summary: A unusual story of survival and a lesson on independence
Review: Judy Resnick explains, through her own mistakes how to deal with life and live in reality. I love her openess about her own life and that she admits that she did a lot wrong before she got it right. I can relate to that better then some M.B.A. that went to school and never lived. As women, we need this reasurrance. Not all of us have the advantage of an education or experience with money until a tragedy hits. I thank her for her honesty.This book is just wonderful

Review: Judy's amazing story (uneducated, broke single mom who ends up running her own successful Wall Street firm) is an inspiration for all of us. She tells us what no one else does--how to save, invest, and protect yourself financially. If I'd just read this when I was 20, how much better off I'd be today!

Summary: Inspired me to start saving!
Review: Judy's life story, and the stories of the women that she has helped, inspired me. I think I have believed in the back of my mind that some man will come along and take care of me. Why should I save or even learn about investing? Now I know that I need to learn to take care of my finances, even if there is a man in my life. And this book makes it seem simple to learn how to manage my money and save. In fact, I signed up for direct deposit at my new job, and directed money to go to my savings account each week, because of Judy's book. It's a start! I have read some reviewers that said they thought Judy was spoiled and doesn't know what it really means to be poor. She grew up in a generation that was encouraged to live off the men in their lives. Alone with kids at 41, no money and no work experience or education, is scary enough! I think it took guts to find the first job of her life at 41. Gives me hope that I still have time to make something of myself!! I admire Judy's honesty about her life. And I admire her mission to help other women avoid her mistakes.

Review: Life throws all sorts of nasty curves at us -- from unforeseeable market changes to nasty, spiteful people -- fortunately we are capable of dealing effectively with both of them. But sometimes we can use a little help -- and if you need help understanding financal issues (as well as how to deal with tremendous adversity) this is a book you must read. As someone who has been-there-and-done-that, Ms. Resnick has an insider's understanding of the whys and wherefores of a world I never thought anyone could explain clearly. I was wrong. I've never been rich and I've never been really poor, but I've been closer to the latter than the former. You might not become rich as a result of reading this book, but it's safe to say the book can help you avoid some of the pitfalls that are out there -- and that is no small feat. Read this book and be informed.

Review: Ms. Resnick's book seems too self-serving and isn't very detail oriented as it relates to how to get started in investing. After reading this book, I still felt lost. I would suggest another book.

Review: While many can and do play at this game, Ms. Resnick does it better than most. The male dominated world she has come to move in so well can be counted upon to throw a few brickbats her way, especially when Ms. Resnick chooses to publicly demystify the arcana of finance and investment. This type of information, engagingly told, is of great value to all contemporary women. Thank you.
