Rating: Summary: A very funny and entertaining book Review: After reading Mort,I searched my local library from top to bottom searching for another Discworld book about Death.i found hogfather, and was not disappointed. The Hogfather is basically their idea of Santa Clause, with a bit of a bloody twist. This year, though,Death once again meddles in human affairs and fills in for the missing spirit. You can guess how messed up things got after that. Overall, this book was hilarious.Especially the part where the wizards of the Unseen University play around with belief.it brings back some of the favorite characters, such as Susan,Ridcully, the Dean, the Librarian,Bursar,Death of Rats,Nobby :-),and,of course,Death himself.Definately worth buying.
Rating: Summary: Would rate six or more stars, if I could Review: Probably the best book Pratchett has ever written (but then, I would give »Lords and Ladies« a bad credit). To give some arguments: The plot is great because of a) the characters, led by Susan, Death (going HO, HO, HO), the Death of Rats (going HEEK, HEEK, HEEK), Ridcully the Brown and the Oh God of Hangovers; b) the villain, which is Mr. Jonathan Teatime, who has a mind like a mirror crack'd: Lots of brilliant and beautiful facettes, but nevertheless something that's broken; and c)the plot itself, which is a thrilling whodunit, because though you know who had it done and who did it, you don't know How or, even more important, WHY. The resolution ... I won't tell you, but it's brilliant (like Mr. Teatime's brain?). Read this book. Read it again. At least each year when christmas is drawing near. Then think about the sun, and blood in the snow, and an assassin with a eyeball of glass ...
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: What is there more to say other than excellent that isn't a synonym of excellent. This, in my opinion, is the best discworld book, and that says a lot. The only problem I have is WHAT'S WITH THE STUPID COVERS- the only good covers are on the European editions.
Rating: Summary: Still compelling, even though I read it numerous times Review: As usual, this book is a masterpiece. Although I read it about 5 times, I still find it captivating and compelling. It's one of Pratchetts funniest and with less moral lessons as his other ones (e.g. Jingo or Feet of Clay). Nevertheless, or maybe because of this, it is very enjoyable. Furthermore, Pratchett seems to be one of the rare persons who really understand the psyche of children,i.e. that children like blood and are really egoistic buggers. I rated this book with five stars because there aren't more available.
Rating: Summary: fantasía pura Review: Al estilo de Tolkien y Pratchett
Rating: Summary: The worst Discworld ever Review: I was big fan of Terry Pratchett. His books seemed funny tome. But what he have done with The Hogfather is terrible. Everithing is very confused there and it isn't funny at all. Mr. Pratchett is using the same ideas as in the previous books , nothing is original, nothing can suprise you. I think this is the worst Discworld Terry have written.
Rating: Summary: An amazing book Review: I am a huge fan and I found the Hogfather the best one yet. Death was funny and Susan was good. This book is the best.
Rating: Summary: forget harry potter Review: A wonderful book. Pratchett seems to be going over old territory in his recent books. Hogfather is no exception. (One wonders if Pratchett has done about all he can do with the Discworld series, except make more money from them.) However, Hogfather doesn't seem particularly stale or recycled. The pace of the story saves it, as does the appearance of Pratchett's best character, DEATH, and Pratchett's surrogate self, Susan. Great stuff. Death as the department store Hogfather is worth the price of the book.
Rating: Summary: Pratchett is the One Review: I've heard that in England is a great cult of Terry Pratchett... Well, we don't have anything like that in here Finland, and I think it's odd. That's because Terry Pratchett just writes so good books so everyone should read them. I got my Hogfather as a Christmas present and it's one of the very best Discworld -books! I really do like Pratchett's humour!
Rating: Summary: Pratchett's best yet!! Review: This is by far my favorite Discworld book. It has a perfect mix of homur and suspence(kinda). Whether your a fan of him or not, read this book!! You won't stop reding or laughing, and if you do there's something wrong with you!
