Summary: Once you get past the racism. excellent book for novices...
Review: like me. I found this book to be not only funny but very informative when discussing bonds, stocks, and mutual funds. While I find John's racially tinted jokes quite amusing, I can understand how somebody might be offended. My only defense for this is that Chris Rock can say anything he wants about African Americans, but once somebody non-black says something, all of a sudden it's racism. Anyway, I think the book is pretty well done overall.

Summary: Funny and Informative...what a novel concept!
Review: My husband and I were trying to learn about the investing world as we started to look to the future. This book was such an easy read that is made this topic easy to understand plus fun as well. I would recommend it to anyone, especially those from our generation, to get serious and think about saving money for the future. It is not that intimidating and actually can be interesting if presented correctly. Thanks Jonathan for making our first taste of investing a delicious one!!

Summary: Hoenig Rules
Review: Outrageous, unorthodox, unconventonal business advice that really makes sense!! Hoenig delivers substance and he can write! Also check out his introduction to Robert Koppel's Money Talks.

Summary: Not worth your time
Review: Somebody recommended this book to me. I read it. The idea is good however the author is far from understanding the principles of math (one would argue about understanding economics which is half social half science). There are many wrong calculations. I tried to contact Mr. Hoenig as I am from Chicago, too. Left several messages, sent e-mails with disagreement - no response.
I don't recommend the book. It's a waste of time.

Summary: Offensive!
Review: The author tries so hard to relate to fellow Gen Xers that he ends up littering the book with cynacism and offensive phrases. For example, he explains that "Black Monday" refers to the day the stock market crashed, not the TV entertainment lineup. And, that's just where it starts. Buy another book, even if the author is over 24.

Summary: Discover your Passions
Review: The author's out take on the stock market, investing, and life in general is amazing. If you can find your passions, and be greedy about them, you will discover real wealth.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Really a "Dummies Guide"
Review: There's nothing really wrong with this book, but there's nothing really good about it, either -- it's more or less a "Dummies' Guide" targeted at twentysomethings. Stick with more established authors (and advice) if you're a beginner, and get something smarter if you're not.

Summary: Not the right "---ist in the title
Review: What little good advice is contained in these pages -- and it is in short supply, being a strange fusion of common sense you already knew, and risky stupidity with little to recommend it -- is really quite blown away by Hoenig's out-and-out racism.

His trying to leech off his young age and appeal to -- heavens knows, a new generation of heartless industrialists? -- also makes for a rather distasteful read. Better economic advice is available from any number of books, and better writing is available in the form of children's books, or Abraham Lincoln's pro-slavery writings.

Summary: Easy practical read, lots of good advice.
Review: When my supply of new books dries up I like to hit my bookshelves and re-read something I enjoyed in the past. This book was fun to read, the author has lots of colorful verbage and pictures from the past that will make you smile. Or Cringe. Mixed with that is a very powerful message of saving and spending your hard earned dollars. If you are new to finance and don't want to wade through a textbook type explanation of financial matters this book would be a sound choice. It contains information on spending wisely, mutual funds, options and insurance in just enough detail to get you started. I would supplement this purchase with "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need" by Andrew Tobias for a great jumpstart on finance.
