Summary: Not really pleased with the story
Review: I do love her books because I so love the mongemerys and taggerts. I don't like women who are whinny, and have no self-worth. I do love JD books, however, I can't really get into this one.

Summary: Deliciously sensual a PERFECT intro to well written romance
Review: I first read this book when I was 14 and I must say, all the abstinence propaganda in the world is not as effective as reading stories about the treatment women SHOULD expect in a relationship. Somehow, it makes one reluctant to settle for being mistreated or jerked around. I bought the book one afternoon and hibernated away in my room, snarling at anyone who dared to interrupt, I didn't even eat. 444 pages later, it was the first large book I'd ever read in under a day. I was desolate when I finished it, I almost wish I could have an amnesiac event so that I could reread Sweet Liar and not know what will happen next.

Summary: One of the Best
Review: I just got through reading Sweet Liar last night and I must say that it is one of my favorite books so far. It is full of mystery and romance. It will keep you on your toes and wanting to read the entire book before putting it down. I highly recommend anyone who has not read this book to do so.

Summary: great romance novel
Review: I love romance novels. It seems that in todays day and age a young woman beleives that she should be reading "War and Peace" rather than a great, titillating, romance novel. First I have read "War and Peace", but often times I just want a fun, never in a billion years could this story be true book. For this Ms. Deveraux is your gal. I love her books and I love her stories, this one in particular. I fell for the characters and for the tale. I do not agree with the reviewer that the plot was convuluted, I mean I read this book in a couple of hours and had no trouble following the plot. This is a great book and Ms. Deveraux writes great stories. For other good reads try Nora Roberts, Carla Neggers and Iris Johansen. They are all distinctly different authors, with Neggars and Johansen being, I believe of the action adventure/romance genre, but great nonetheless.

Summary: Naive College Graduate
Review: I picked up this tape to read on a trip. It my first and I wasn't impressed. I recommend reading the book if you are going to get it. The tape was dry and lacking. BLAH! The story was interesting and I agree! Michael would be a "dream come true." But Sam seemed to be lacking something. Again, maybe it was just the tape. Single, 28 years old and alone, Sam Elliott arrives in New York after burying her father. It has been an emotional roller coaster for her. One that she has been experiencing privately only- since she is not one to show her emotions to others. She has instructions to a certain apartment that is her's from her father for a year while she is to finish her father's business and possible help her put pieces to the puzzle of her life together. Mike Taggart is the landlord- a sweetheart for sure. Being an author (Mike is writing a book about the Prohibition-era and gangsters, especially Doc Barrett) Mike likes putting pieces of puzzles together. And Sam is a puzzle. Mike won't let Sam "pull back into the cacoon" like she wants to do. Sam's grandmother disappeared when Sam was little and it is her father's wish that Sam find the missing piece of the puzzle -WHY. Mike helps her with it while helping her out of depression and finding reason in her life. The story was slow but there's romance and humor there. Mike's family is fun and he's got money that he spends on Sam which is FUN. But I would have to rate this read as average. There are better ones out there. Or atleast don't listen to the audio. Try reading the book. The story didn't interest me enough to get the book and see what I missed out on.

Summary: No ... thats all I can say ... No
Review: I've been a fan of Mrs Deveraux, she writes most captivating novels to make my imagination in utter delight, but unfortunately this novel did not do it for me this time.
I tried so hard to get into this book and give it a chance, after all it has 4 1/2 stars
but Samantha just so totally got on my nerves she was too dis-trusting and just such a flake! I found myself half way thru the book skipping paragraphs and just quickly scanning the pages for anything interesting ...

I did not enjoy this book unfortunately, but it got 2 stars from me cause it still had passion and that thing we call love

Summary: Naive College Graduate
Review: I've read a number of books by Jude Deveraux, most recently The Summerhouse and Wild Orchids (on audio) and found this one to be not what I expected. I found it amazing that a 28 year old college graduate (who is a wiz with computers) thought that "passing the bar" meant you took a test to become a bartender!! There were times I wanted to shake the heroine and tell her to quit being so stupid. A computer wiz in the information age shouldn't be so naive and clueless. The book actually got better toward the end, maybe because by the end of the book Sam's character seemed to be more mature and less flighty. A decent read if your looking for something light and airy.

Summary: Oh Michael, Michael!
Review: It has been almost a year since I read SWEET LIAR. I had just begun reading Jude Deveraux's books and came upon it by accident. At first I was a bit leary, since I had determined I would only read historical romance. I am so happy that I gave this book a try. It is one of my favorites. After reading about Mike Taggert, a woman's ideas about an ideal man truly change. There aren't words to describe just how incredible he is. And while Samantha takes a lot of criticism, I liked her. I especially loved seeing a modern female who is actually excited about being a mom. The whole "Maxie" plot was intriguing. And for the reviewer who seemed to say that this plot was taken from a same-named movie - well, nobody saw that movie, but lots of people have read this book and loved it. Oh Michael, Michael...

Summary: Best romance ever written, no matter your age
Review: Jude Deveraux is the best author of our time, even from a fifteen year old's point of view. This book, sweet liar, was the first, and the best romance I have ever read. Since I read this book, I have read hundreds more, and none can compare. I have read Sweet Liar so many times, that the pages are worn, and the cover has fallen off. All of Ms. Deveraux's novels are good, but this one is her best. It is suspenseful, romantic, an all-around Great book. A must read for romance lovers. True to form, her characters are amazing, believable, and charming, the kind of people you wish you could know. Mike and Sam sweep you away on an adventure you never want to end, and thankfully, Ms. Deveraux mentions them again in other stories, (She includes them in both of a Holiday of love and a Gift of love, which are collections of short stories.) A great plot, lots of charm, and hot romance, this is a great book
