Rating: Summary: Did I read the same book? Review: After reading the other customer review, I had to ask myself "Did I read the same book?" Entertaining? Definitely. A classic thriller? Definitely not. First, I couldn't get past the entire premise that Johnny Porter, a loner from the Canadian wilderness, just happens to have espionage skill that would put James Bond to shame. More significantly, however, I left the table hungry after finishing to book. After patiently waiting for something to happen as we toured Siberia for the better part of the book, everything was wrapped up quickly, leaving me to wonder what it was all for. Do not get me wrong. I enjoyed this book. I just do not understand what all the fuss was about as it was no more notable than most other books I have read.
Rating: Summary: A Great Spy! Review: I've not read many techno-thrillers and am a big fan of the John LeCarre school of spy novels, so I was delighted to find that "Kolymsky Heights" combined the best elements of action, adventure, and intellectual suspense. Johnny Porter is a great spy, and it would be nice to read of his exploits again, but as others have suggested, this is a book that can be re-read and still thoroughly enjoyed. Davidson's plot twists keep you on the edge of your seat, but the fascinating details also keep you thinking, and amazed. A great read!
Rating: Summary: excellent thriller non-traditional hero Review: Imagine an indian, intellectual, language specialist, anthropologist sent on a mission to infiltrate on contact the head of trhe most secure facility in the world - frozen Siberia.I was fortunate to find this book on a discount rack for $2.97. I took a small chance was pleasantly surprised with the quality of Davidsons writing. The story is inteligent, rich with detail, thrilling and beleivable carried out by an action hero who coulc never be played by Arnold S in a movie version. He is real guy a beleiveable guy in an incredible situation where he has to rely on his intelligence and wits to survive. Bravo Davidson and I will look forward to reading more exploits of Porter. Tell me where I can find info on that fabulous Bobik!
