Summary: Great Way to Learn Russian!
Review: I have learned now how to speak Russian and have inspired friends to do the same. My church is preparing for a mission trip soon and I feel fairly confident that I can get where I need to get in Moscow or at least ask directions. The tapes are very well-paced and I highly recommend them.

Summary: Organized, original useful material, best Russian value
Review: I have purchased about 5-6 courses, including Russian Now software, and Russian Face to Face, and dictionaries. This course, along with the Pimsleur full course, have been most effective for me, and the best value. Pimsleur's excellent, but very (too) expensive. Listen and Learn Russian, is the most value for my money. It's also very organized, with lesson plans that you check off as you go. I plan to try out the FSI course and Rosetta Stone Russian Level I too. The LnLearn audio recordings are at full-speed, which is WAY different than the Pimsleur. I like this, and the fact that they are recorded in REAL settings. A little harder to hear, but you're going to be speaking in real life, not a studio, so get used to it. You have to get used to the native speed, too, to be functional. My Russian friends say my pronounciation is great, but I sound like I'm drunk because I talk so SLOW. The courses introduce different concepts of teaching, so they compliment each other (L and L vs Pimsleur) The two minor complaints I have about this book is that the transliteration is discontinued after the first few chapters because you're supposed to learn the cyrillic letters by then, and there were only two cassettes, which were excellent in that they fit perfectly with the book. I would like to see the whole book transliterated with more cassettes and lessons. I'd buy the new version.

Summary: College bookstore has lower price
Review: Zdrastvuytye

The 1999 (more recent) edition was available @ my college bookstore for a few dollars less than Amazon's price. My initial impression of the book/tapes is good. The tapes are recorded "in Russia" by actual Russian subjects. The result is a good impression of how to pronounce the words/phrases.
