Rating: Summary: SIMPLE WRITING,DEEP FEELINGS Review: As a reader of Plato, Seneca and Hume, it was by accident that I stumbled with this book,in Rome's airport 5 years ago. Many have spoken about the stereothypes allegedly contained in this work by Tamaro. However, I believe that hardly any book can present, in such a simple manner, an intimate journey into the realities of real life (as opposed to the ideal perception of it and the future as a projection of expectations) and the complexity of choices we are compelled to make in our existence, from the moral standpoint. A refreshing exploration about the reconciliating and liberating effect that truth, and the revelation of one's defects, can have upon others that are struggling to mark their own path, but find themselves paralized by the fear to act and, mostly, to err. A very ligth reading, but with profound impact upon those with sensibility enough to value poetry in prose form. It recalls intimate thoughts about one's relationship with its parents and grandparents in a moving and sometimes disturbing dimension. A MUST READ
Rating: Summary: Eloquent, insightful, and haunting, this book is a treasure. Review: I first found this book while studying Italian in Florence, Italy the summer of 1996. This book has become a reminder of where I lived and what I learned. No other book has kept me as intrigued as FOLLOW YOUR HEART, and no other book has had to endure as much marking up and underlining. This book speaks eloquently and hauntingly about what our family of origin has created us to be and how the choices we eventually come to make will either keep us bound or set us free. Not only does this book remind us and inspire us to choose ourselves and our hearts, but it also shares the beauty and the history of Italy. I have been fortunate enough to find this treasure while still in its beautiful homeland, and nothing will ever compare to the time I spent riding the train through the Italian countryside while imagining myself to be the pupil of such a wise and loving grandmother. Who doesn't come away from this book desiring the opportunity to spend just a few days with this imaginary character? My life has never been the same, and on days when I need a little inspiration, I open up my book and read it all over again. What a wonderful gift Susan Tamaro has given me.
Rating: Summary: STILL WATERS RUN DEEP Review: Our book club just finished reading Tamaro's "Follow Your Heart." The general concensus was that this very unasuming little book is a powerhouse. The saying "Still waters run deep" is so applicable here. The author uses a letter, which might never reach its destiny to entangle readers in a cross-generational web. A grandmother writing to her estranged granddaughter, (it can't get any simpler than that) and Tamaro takes her readers on a journey through four generations to teach us some very important life lessons. A most definately enchanting strategy. "Follow your Heart" is a testimony for all women, everywhere. Mothers and daughters should read this book together and behold the unquestionable power that women have on each other, their marriages, and children. This influence is so very powerful that as Tamaro shows us it travels from one generation to another. If you are looking for insightful reading, yet simple prose, "Follow Your Heart" is an excellent choice.

Rating: Summary: Embarrassing Review: Talk about self-indulgent. This sad old woman's reminiscences on how her daughter never forgave her for emotionally abandoning her as a tiny girl, and her 'realisation' that her daughter was not too bright, and had a flawed character, is not the sort of thing that you should ever write to your grand daughter as a parting gift...Not to mention her own misdemeanours-having a child outside her marriage and never being honest to anyone...I hated reading about how bright and special and sensitive she was as a child compared to her daughter and granddaughter. No wonder every one left her. I can't understand why anyone would want to hear her philosophy on life, take it to therapy granny.
Rating: Summary: Heart scooping Review: Tamaro reaches deep into your soul as she speaks to you through her character. No matter who you are, you can definitely relate to this book. There is such a strong conversation that goes on the moment you start the book. Tamaro's offered one of the best advice I've received so far in this book: stop for a moment, and listen to your heart.
Rating: Summary: It's True Review: While reading "Follow Your Heart", I found myself questioning all of things I have found important in my life. I feel that the book teaches you many life lessons, especially to follow your heart. After reading this book, I felt like I learned a lesson that was priceless.
