Rating: Summary: Very. Random. Review: I'm not going to go into it /all/, but the entire book was unecessarily random and long. Things happened for absolutely no reason, which was very unlike JK. I enjoyed the book, like all the others, but some of the characters started to get very irritating. Harry became /incredibly/ whiny and angsty, and he took any of his frustration out on his ever-loyal friends, who just took it. This book was funnier, in spots, than the others, but it was also longer and really depressing. It teared on "the government" a lot, which I have no issue with, but others may. Overall, it was a 4.5 stars, but, in comparision to the rest of the series, only a 3.
Rating: Summary: Very good but not the best of the series Review: I thought this book was pretty good. I like the older Harry, watching him deal with things like a real teen and getting cranky and emotional. This book was very dark, which I knew about beforehand. As with all the books (in my opinion) all of the real action happens at the end, after slowly building up to the major plot points, the reader is finally satisfied in the last few chapters. I can't wait to read number 6!!!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous book!! I wish it was longer.... ;) Review: This may have been the longest book in the Harry Potter series so far, but I believe it was probably the best. Though the first 180 pages or so may be a little slow compared to the beginnings of the other books, I felt it was much more interesting, because you learned alot more about the wizarding world, not just about school. In this book there will be characters you will absoloutly HATE but maybe that's because in my opinion the character development is much better than the other books. There were twists and turns that were unexpected and left you on the edge of your... couch, or whatever you sit on when you read. I thought this was an absoloutley thrilling book, even though there were a few shocks in the end. I won't spoil it for you though, you'll have to read it for yourself!! :)
Rating: Summary: Simply a wonderful book Review: Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix begins like any of the other Harry Potter books; Harry is languishing in Little Whinging with his antagonistic relatives, the Dursleys. There, the similarities end. In The Order of the Phoenix, the action starts immediately, and doesn't let up until the very end. Rowling, however, doesn't sacrifice story for action; the characterizations and plot are as intricate and developed as readers have come to anticipate and expect. Of especial note in this book is Rowling's ability to convey the angst and arrogance of early teenage adolescence in a manner that is at once recognizable to those of us beyond that stage, without being condescending to those still muddling through that agonizingly frustrating age. I won't say much else plot-wise, for fear of spoiling its twists, besides this: the range of emotion in the Order of the Phoenix is much wider than the previous books. The first four of this series weren't emotionally shallow, by any means, but the Order of the Phoenix is the first that made me run the gamut from laughing out loud (which the others had) to crying in empathy for a character's pain (a first, for me, in this series). Though Harry has had more, perhaps, than his fair share of being witness to tragedy (e.g., his parent's deaths, the fate of Cedric Diggory, etc.), The Order of the Phoenix drives home the true costs of heroism, while reinforcing the idea that - even at our most heroic - we are still only human. Whether that is blessing or bane - not only in Harry's, but others' cases as well - is left up to the individual reader to decide. For those of you who have read the rest of the series: read this book! You will not only not be disappointed, but will be impressed at Rowling's story's complexity and her maturing characterizations. For those of you who haven't read the rest of the series: read these books, including the Order of the Phoenix! If you have children, these books are a superb way to introduce them to the joys of reading, and its concomitant benefits. As a college professor, I can assure you that reading everything well is a skill that is best nurtured early, and one that is essential to academic success. As a human being, I can think of few better ways to teach or learn the complexities and contradictions of choosing right from wrong, distinguishing justice from injustice, gleaning fairness from unfairness, etc. than through books like these. As a reader, I can say that: this was a superb story, I will read it again, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone! Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: didn't really live up to the hype Review: I just finished it today. It certainly read quickly and there were some parts that were very good and well written. It was "Yeah for Harry!" at some parts. It was difficult to put down once I started. However, not much 'action' happened until the end, and when it ended there was a feeling of unsatisfaction--almost like, that was it? It didn't seem as ohmigod! as the other novels, and didn't live up to the hype and the wait but overall it was pretty good. At least I didn't have to stand in line for it!!!
Rating: Summary: Wow....... What else to say Review: I was not expecting hardly any of what happened in this book. I will not give any spoilers or say anything about the people in the book but...... wow. I am happy to see Harry showing different emotions such as anger and caring (Cho), which is what some of the other books had been missing. This is a truely amazing book that is so hard to put down I was up till 4 a.m. this morning reading. I can't wait to open it up and read it all over again. The twists and turns in this book are amazing... 5 stars.... Best one yet.
Rating: Summary: Hooray for Harry! Review: this book is the best of the series! every fan will love it! it is hard to get into at the begining but you will soon find yourself not wanting to put it down! i loved it!
Rating: Summary: They keep getting better! Review: I received it and read it in 2 days. It was amazing! From the first pages it keeps you in suspense and pushes you on to read more. It's very hard to put down. The main characters are developed further and the adventures are more intense than ever before. Rowling does another excellent job sucking you into Harry's world and keeping you interested from page 1 to page 870! Wonderful read! Can't wait for #6.
Rating: Summary: Still awesome, but... Review: Order of the Phoenix keeps up the excellent standard previously set by Rowling. Read it in two sittings, couldn't put it down. That said, I have one minor complaint...why has Harry turned into such a self-centered, sniveling, whining little crybaby? In this book he is constantly whining and complaining and feeling sorry for himself and it gets kind of old...shouldn't he be maturing as he gets older? Shouldn't all his previous experiences have helped him to be less selfish and less apt to complain as he gains more perspective each year? Why the sudden regression? I hope she fixes this with the next book. Two straight books full of Harry's whining new personality will begin to really annoy me. But other than that I still loved the book.
Rating: Summary: I think it's OK. Review: Frankly I think the Potter series is getting quite tiresome. This is like the other ones but we are just so used to the stuff that we almost expect strange things to happen and it does.
