Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is a MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This a wonderful book for people of all ages, i am 14 and read alot but i'm not usually interested in the magical story genre but I have read this book in the first 5 hrs i got it its worth it. Trust me
Rating: Summary: Not with a whimper but a bang Review: After the delay--and Ms. Rowling's alleged writer's block--I'll admit feeling some trepidation upon opening the new book. However, these niggling fears were quickly assuaged--16 hours later--when I turned the final page. I'm sure critics will apply all the normal platitudes of "a magical ride" and "story-telling at its best" and they are surely not wrong. This is the best of the series as numerous questions are answered and new ones raised. After a semester of studying Milton, Shakespeare, and Spenser (Lit Dork) it is a refreshing change to be engrossed in pure narrative fiction. Not that it is just for children, mind you, as I doubt few will know who Paracelus is and that Malfoy breaks down to "bad-faith" (just as Sans Foy in Spenser's "The Faerie Queene" means without faith). The true misery now is the inevitable wait until the 6th book!
Rating: Summary: Everything is going wrong, but it's all written so right Review: This is the rare sort of book that has the same effect on me as the Lord of the Rings saga, and with a few less pages. I really couldn't put it down, untill the morning news hit the door, telling me that it was six a.m. But by Sunday I'd finished it. Sadly, don't expect much to be answered in this. The book truely creates more questions than it resolves. Another warning: Gone is the sense that has held true in the last books, the sense of some firm ground to stand on. There are no contants now, to look on with calm, even when Harry's time is crazy. In this novel, even the solid, unchanging system of Hogwarts, family, and Quidditch are turned upside-down. The death, which everyone has been contemplating, is a horrible jolt. We really barely knew the person. The secondary problems almost overshadow the bigger issues, and Neville (always my favorite character) finnally is all I knew him to be. Poor Harry is now weaker, due to the trauma at last getting to him, and is finding it harder to bear the pressure. Still incredably good at remaining in controll, even with the dreams, and the despicable Umbridge, etc. All in all, as a fan of psychology, mystery, and fantasy, this book glows in these, and is one of the best books I've ever read. Loved it, a clever, poetic writing style (Not blunt, or rambling). Hope the next one comes sooner than later....
Rating: Summary: The Worst of the Whole Series Review: I believe that although this continues the whole Harry Potter saga, this book does not contain the excitement of the other books in the series, especially COS and GOF.The book can be summed up by stereotyping the entire series. He has trouble getting to school. There's a nasty teacher there. There is a time when Harry gets that teacher back. Harry faces evil and wins. Again. I am very dissapointed. For the size of the book, one would expect more nail-biting fear, enthralling excitement (again, no Quidditch!!!) and heartfelt emotion from this book. Instead it is watered down, and leaves you at exactly the same place the fourth book, GOF, left you: When will the war begin?
Rating: Summary: How can it be anything but 5 stars? Review: Just finished the book this morning. Needless to say-- it was spectacular. Harry Potter fans will not be dissappointed by the book after a three year wait. The book covers the span of Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts featuring many characters from his past books. We meet several new characters who turn out to be key players in the fight against the rise of Voldemort. We learn more about why Harry Potter must stay at Privet Drive, rather than living with a Wizard family that would treat him with more love and kindness (such as the Weasleys). We also learn a little bit about ghosts and have a greater insight into who Harry's parents were and why Voldemort tried to kill Harry to begin with. Dumbledore is honest with Harry about his emotions and feelings for Harry for the first time. Harry matures quite a bit and has his first "relationship" and first kiss. The much publicized death of a major character is a bit of let down (perhaps because of the hype) but still leaves the reader feeling stunned and sorry for Harry. One of the best things about this installment is that Harry, for the first time, allows his anger and emotions to bubble to surface. He is not always a paragon of virtue. He is angry throughout most of the novel and I felt that it was a very convincing portrayal of a boy at the age of 15 dealing with a lot of problems in his life, but still yearning to play Quidditch and be popular in school. All I can say: wish it was longer and the wait for Book 6 has begun!!
Rating: Summary: Totally worth the wait! Review: Well I, for one, am satiated until Harry Potter 6 comes out. After a marathon reading session, I finished The Order of the Phoenix at 10 a.m. on the 22nd. The wizarding world is entering a very dark period and I'm wondering just who will be left standing when the series is finished. Either I'm really dense, or Ms. Rowling is an excellent writer (I hope the latter is the more true!) but I had no clue until it happened, of which character was going to be killed. The book is great, can't wait for the next movie to come out!!
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ for All Harry Potter Fans! Review: Was any book so eagerly awaited as this one? I admit to a slight bit of disappointment--HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX isn't quite as good as I thought it would be. But why is that? Perhaps because it is the darkest book in the series (to date). Lord Voldemort is on the rise again, and his threat hangs over all the characters. But for all the hooplah, you'd expect the Dark Lord to do all sorts of nasty things, wouldn't you? Well, he does a few horrible things, but not too many. In fact, I felt Voldemort was a bit on the quiet side, which probably means he'll be in fine fettle and killing the good guyes right and left in Book 6. Then, perhaps it's because Harry is just now growing up a bit. He's 15 years old, and he's just had a major growth spurt. His hormones are in flux, and poor Harry is prone to outbursts of anger when he is tried too far. Perhaps it's because Professor Dumbledore is visibly missing-in-action during most of the book. We get a glimpse of him here and there, but gone are the intimate exchanges between himself and Harry. On the other hand, it just may be because Harry doesn't have quite as much to do in this book as he did in previous ones. After you've been in a Tri-Wizard Tournament fighting off dragons, hexes, and the like, I'm sure life does tend to get a bit boring. However, all in all, it is a welcome sequel to GOBLET OF FIRE. Students just finishing their exams can sympathize with Harry, Hermione and Ron as they struggle with their huge courseload and upcoming O.W.L exams. The new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher is one we all can (hem, hem) hate vehemently. Fred and George Weasley are in fine form and are putting Harry's Tournament winnings to good use in getting their joke shop started. Best of all, in my opinion, was "Dumbledore's Army" (I won't say more and spoil the effect). If you're a Harry Potter fan, be sure to read this one. And listen to the audio version, too. It always adds another dimension to the story.
Rating: Summary: The Boy Who Lived Lives Up To Expectations! Review: As the 5th installment of the Harry Potter, there were many, many of us waiting for this book to arrive. The anticipation alone on this book was something quite extraordinary. I'm happy to say, in my opinion, The Order of the Phoenix lives up to all it's anticipation and hype. I found this book extremely enjoyable, and definitely as good as all the others. I have to say, this book took me quite aback at it's many twists and turns, and every moment was enjoyable. Again, the magic of Harry Potter brings us to life with book, and I'm thouroughly pleased with it's turnout. If you haven't read Harry Potter, now is the perfect time to start. Harry and his friends will keep you hanging for more... I can't wait for the next book!
Rating: Summary: I'm so excited it's here! Review: I have been looking forward to this book for 2 years now, and it's finally here! I bought it Saturday morning and had finished it by 2:30 am. I admit, the beginning, with Harry's mood swings and homework woes, annoyed me, since I have enough of that on my own and don't need to read about it. The rest of the book though more than makes up for it. Fred and George had me laughing almost hysterically with their pranks. The end is very exciting, as usual. I only wish Book 6 were complete now as well!
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: This was a really good book. Although the first 200 pages was a little difficult(interest) this book picked up as soon as Harry got to school. I found there was not enough Voldemort in this book to keep my interest the whole time, although the last 200 pages you can't even put the book down(because of all the action). This is a very different book from all the others in the series, featuring an irritable new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and the world(finally)against Harry. That made it very new and interesting, the series needed a twist. Although this book was unneccesarily long and far from perfect (they could have cut out lots of parts in this one, at least 300 pages) I would still reccomend this book to anybody.
