Summary: THE BEST OF DAN BROWN!
Review: This book is a literary masterpiece. I enjoyed the way so many historical facts were woven in so smoothly throughout this mystery novel. This book is worth the time and money. It is truly a work of art itself and deserves to bear the name of the great Da Vinci. This book is hard to put down, so clear your weekend schedule!

Summary: Enlightening, Refreshing, Educational! One Flaw . . .
Review: This book is a page turner no matter what your beliefs are. The murder mystery, codes, etc, will keep you interested even if you disagree with the theology.

However, Brown is careful to note through the character's dialogue that there are two sides to every story. For every person who tries to say the theories in this book are false and cannot be proven - please keep in mind that you cannot prove the Bible, either. Neither this particular belief nor the Bible can be proven or disproven. It is a matter of what you believe - that is why it's called "faith". You must have an open mind and accept the fact that there are two sides to every story instead of immediately decrying the theology as bunk. It is not saying that Jesus did not exist, it is not saying he was not wise and enlightened, it is not saying that he was not crucified. All the fundamental aspects of what we were taught are there. It is simply the other side of the story. Which one you choose to believe is up to you. But I advise gathering all the information first.

The one flaw in the book is how the two main characters get out of certain situations / jams, etc. That is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. Some of their "escapes", so to speak, might be able to occur but one in particular really stretches the limits of plausibility, in my humble opinion.

Summary: Enthralling Read
Review: This book is a real page turner and filled with interesting imagery. You are in safe hands with Dan Brown as he unfolds the story. The plot hangs together well and is interesting. The art history background makes this a worthwhile read in itself, and the suspense adds to the experience.

Summary: A Big Mac for the mind
Review: This book is a roaring good read, which is reason enough to spend a couple of evenings with it. But the author's facts are skewed and some of his assertations are just plain silly. (If that's who he says it is in the center of the painting with Jesus, then why was James, brother of Jesus omitted from the gathering of apostles?) You've heard of junk science? This is junk history. Enjoyable, but not very nourishing for the mind.

Summary: Borrow from a friend before buying
Review: This book is a slow read because it doesn't capture your attention. It throws out a lot of theory and conjecture and every chapter is an allusion to the next chapter. There is no mystery, no excitement, no wonder. By the time I finished the last painful pages of this tripe I wasn't in the least bit curious as to who the antagonist was or what his/her motive was. The book tries to make you rethink the history of Christianity and the role of the pope in the church but near the end it tells you what any educated reader should know: Take it with a grain of salt because it, like the bible, is open to interpretation.
The story starts out with some interesting facts that anyone with a minimal interest in art history or mathematics would have known. The hero and heroine of the book want you to know that they are supersmart and can solve any riddle or rhyme put before them. The characters are poorly introduced and I didn't feel like I could relate to them as people. Some chapters are 3 paragraphs long. If the chapters were strung along as a continuous story without all the white space and breaks the book would easily be half the size. I had more fun reading "Who Moved My Cheese" than this book.
