Rating: Summary: Worth the Time and $$ Review: If you are serious about taking control of your finances and retiring young, this book is a must have in your arsenal. It reads very easy and keeps your interest. I am not an avid reader, but I read this entire book in 2 days! I would also recommend "Retire Young, Retire Rich" (also by R.T. Kiyosaki)and "Real Estate Riches" (by one of his advisors Dolf de Roos)!
Rating: Summary: This is the reason why only the top 5% succeed Review: I can certainly [understand the negative opinions] of this book. This is exactly the reason why only 5% of the population succeed. Only the top 5% have the right mental mindset for success. Only the top 5% are willing to take control of their financial future. Only the top 5% are willing to "stick out" as Malcolm Forbes use to say.The other 95%? They are too content being downsized in those "safe" jobs and waiting for five years for a pay raise with their "education"The sorry fact is, most people need and want what Kiyosaki offers but have been blinded by formal education", "tradition" and other hokey dogma that obviously doesn't work. I have made more MONEY AND GOTTEN BETTER results in the last five months following Kiyosaki's advice than I did over the last 10 years using conventional advice.I'm a believer! Try it--it really works!!best writer. So what? The way I see it, if a guy with bad grammar can make it, what can a college educated grad fortified with Kiwosaki's philosophy do? Hey that is exciting!Seriously, this is a great book, and if you are teachable and open minded, will positively impact your life and that of your family as well.THE ALTERNATIVE? Have to depend on social security or is that Social InSecurity and live on half your income or keep working--ENT! Not my style.Thank you RTK for sharing. I also highly recommend Rich Dad's Guide to Investing Cash Flow Quadrant and The Millionaire Next Door. All are great books.
Rating: Summary: short on specifics... but invaluable insights. Review: Mr. Kiyosaki's works have been a little controversial lately, what with some folks questioning the veracity of his backstory and others mentioning the gaps or dated information in his work. Both criticisms have at least some grounding, I've come to believe -- but niether substansially alters the value of this book. Rich Dad, Poor Dad is meant as a primer.. a "McGuffy Reader" for personal finance as it were. I would NOT suggest relying on it for specific, critical points of information on real estate practices, tax law, etc etc. However, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend it as a means of changing self-defeating attitudes towards money, and as a general guide to financial practice. As such, I have already given away several copies to friends and family, and likely will continue to do so into the future. I can't recommend this book highly enough to the financial newcomer who's flummoxed by all the market talk, "Get rich quick" games, and "we'll solve everything" campaign speeches. Finally, a personal note. If you come from a Liberal ideology, as I did originally, it will be hard reading. You will become furious with Mr. Kiyosaki's apparent lack of concern for the poor, and you will be tempted to write him off as a souless pig. If you find yourself having this reaction, READ IT AGAIN. And AGAIN. Try to understand what exactly he's saying, and WHY he's saying it. (hint.. "because he's greedy" isn't the right answer). What you learn will be invaluable, and literally life-changing.
Rating: Summary: Great Marketing, Worthless book Review: This is 1 of the most worthless financial books I have ever read. SAVE YOUR MONEY - DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. I can tell you the jist of what he says : Have assets not liabilites (duh...). Your house is a liability not an asset. Evidently, to learn some ways you can accumulate all those assets you have to buy his OTHER books!!! Although he mentions that the rich incorporate themselves, he does not go into how one does this, why, what it does for you, & any reasons why you should not. This book is like 1 of those TV get-rich infomercials where they keep saying "this system will get you rich". We watch the whole thing because we keep thinking they will mention HOW. It is nothing but a commercial to buy the book, system, seminar, etc. I read this whole book for the same reason - thinking he would eventually get to the HOWs. But he never does. Any coincidence he is a prince of infomercials?
Rating: Summary: Good book for beginners. Review: Be warned, Experts who invest in real estate and stocks will not find this book much useful because it dosen't give specific step by step instructions on how to do advanced deals . But rather, it's a great book for beginners who don't have one penny in the bank or any investing sense. It's a pretty easy read with many very clever analogies added in plus amazingly simple charts to follow. It gives readers a sense how other people work their money rather working a 9 to 5 job. Even if you never do anything with the advice in this book, it is still a good read.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: This is an interesting book, but like many others, high risk investment is too scary for me. So let me tell you the advice MY poor dad gave to me. "Write a book. People seem to buy anything these days." Not sure if that was a knock on my writing abilities, but I took his advice. If you want a laugh this holiday season, check out "No One's Even Bleeding".
Rating: Summary: Econ book review Review: Overall, a very good and insightful book. Very easy and quick to read. Very informative about many economic principles. Highly recommended if you want to know more about how to become monetarily successful. JJS
Rating: Summary: Worth the read, but not groundbreaking Review: Everyone should read this book, because it does do a wonderful job in getting you to analyze your attitude towards investing. However, it does nothing more than tout the high-rish high-yield style of investment while making it seem like anything more conservative is unthinkable. The book is pervaded with a condescending and snobbish tone, which is understandable to an extent, but it gets old. In short, investment advice we've all heard before partnered with pretentious motivational one-liners wrapped in an 'easy money' teasing which I'm sure Mr. Kiyosaki, with his experience in marketing, realized would sell this book. If you feel the need to buy a Porsche and retire at 40, perhaps you'll appreciate this book more.
Rating: Summary: Teach your kids before it is too late Review: This is a great look at how we should teach our kids about money. We grew up with depression age parents who were always worried about every penny, but did not always save and invest. I would like to recommend another book. The Intersection of Joy and MOney. The author brings you right to the core of why you have problems with money and that these issues began in childhood. Get the Intersection book and resolve your money issues before you pass them to your kids.
Rating: Summary: Assets and Liabilities Assets and Liabilities Review: I'm not crazy, I promise. I wrote my "Assets and Liabilities" twice because of Robert T. Kiyosaki's writing style that happens to repete almost every important point he tries to make. As good as this book is, the ideas are drilled into our head several times within a few pages. But, overall this book was very educational and profound. Many people are in the "rat race" of life and are looking for a way to get out, this is the first step. This book helps me to conceptualize how I will spend my money once I start making it. I will put it into assets, so my "money will work for me." This book gives an insight to a bunch of great ways to keep on top in the rich man's world
