Summary: Good Book from a great writer
Review: I just love the way Dean Koontz writes. In my next life, I want to come back as a writer just like him.
This is not his best, but it's pretty good. If you like Koontz, you will like this book. If you are new to him, you may not think he's great. But trust me, he is!

Summary: Great Book!
Review: Ok, this is my first Koontz book. But what a great start! Koontz takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and lets you off wanting more. The book deals with a young man named Odd Thomas whose gift of seeing the dead gives him insight to a world never seen by normal eyes. The characters are colored vividly and by the end of the book you would swear you knew them personally. Again, great book!

Summary: Good Read--Very entertaining, makes you care.
Review: I just finished this book last night, and I couldn't stop thinking about it, even as I slept. It was a very interesting story, I enjoyed imagining the world Koontz created, and he made me care about the characters. I think sometimes Koontz overuses description and creative flourish, and alliteration (it does seem like padding or experimentation), but if you can overlook that you will enjoy a great read. There were a couple of things in the plot that weren't developed/explained, but again, the book is worth reading even so.

In my opinion, Koontz's best books are "Watchers", "Dark Rivers of the Heart", and "The Face". I also thoroughly enjoyed "Odd Thomas", "The Bad Place", "Tick Tock", "Demon Seed", and "Lightning". I'm probably leaving some other favorites out, but there's a good reading list for anyone interested.

Summary: Great read
Review: I picked this up after not having read Koontz in ten or more years. This was a great book - good plot, keeps you guessing, very humorous, and you really care about the characters. If you are looking for an easy-reading page-turner for a flight, you won't be able to put this down. Koontz uses excellent description and character development. Odd Thomas is a peculiar young man who can see the dead, right at the start of the book you meet a young girl who steers him quickly to her killer. Odd also sees shadows, or what he calls bodachs, that hover around and foreshadow doom for the living. The book will grab you at the beginning right away.....I recommend it highly.

Summary: A Good Read for a Cold Winters Night.
Review: This was my first Dean Koontz book to pick up. I was intrested in the story after reading the Amazon.com review and was hooked all the way. I usually don't get into the "horror" genre but I think it's good to read different works or else you'll be bored.
Koontz tells the first person account of Odd Thomas who is a fry cook that can see dead people. His whole world changes in 2 days after a strange man call "Fungas Man" eats in the diner he works in. The book really picks up after that and will be a quick read as I was racing through the chapters toward the conclusion of the story. Pick this up today and ignore the negative reviews for the book.

Summary: WASTE OF MONEY
Review: I bought this book because of the raves by Publisher's Weekly.
I gave up after the first chapter, thought this was more of
a teenager's read. Koontz has a distinct way of going up and
down in his writing efforts, which leads me to believe that
some of his books are written to fill out a contract.

Summary: Uneven, but there's some fun to be had.
Review: As usual Mr. Koontz has written another interesting and suspenseful story. However, as has happened with some of the recent Koontz books, sometimes the premise of the story is more interesting than the actual finished book. I won't divulge specifics because like most readers I hate reviews which give away plot points, but there are a couple of matters which are brought up in the story and are never satisfactorily explained. Considering the book is less than 400 pages long, the middle of the story seems artificially padded while the ending is way too abrupt. Nonetheless it is not Koontz's worst novel and the story does have some good moments. The ending is particularly bittersweet and leaves you wanting more.

Summary: Superb, Thrilling Story
Review: Comparing Odd Thomas and The Sixth Sense is inevitable. Nontheless, this story stands on its own as an excellent thriller for Dean Koontz. Odd Homas is one uber-mature 20 year old who sees dead people that have not let go of their past lives. These include people looking for justice, those in denial, or those who had just too much fun in their lives (see Elvis). While Odd is often burdened with these visions, he feels a duty to assist humanity. These visionaries include bodachs which are terror feeding masses. Their presence and enormous population tips Odd to pending disasters.

Odd Thomas spirals into a thrilling, fast moving adventure as our hero races against the clock to save his small city of Pico Mundo, his girlfriend, and his friends...all of whom are in pending danger. I'll have to admit that I let the ending catch me by surprise and Odd Thomas is a great read from start to finish. I'd have to agree with other reviewers that the door is open for another novel and a series featuring Odd would be on my bookshelf.

Summary: Ending Wants more
Review: The book kept your attention througout reading it and some of the characters were interesting. I expected more of an ending that the one in this book. To keep the reader moving along and then give them the ending that was supplied left me wanting an explanation as to why. There are far more sutible endings that would have left you with a feeling that reading the book was worth it.

Summary: It's OK, but not his best work
Review: As Koontzbooks go, this one ranks somewhere in the middle. It was entertaining but also has several serious flaws. The title character is engaging, although he is supposedly age 20 and was written older (more like 35 or 40). The suspense is never fully gripping or convincing -- something the author is usually automatic with, but not this time. There are two major surprises in the plot - one got me, the other didn't. (The 2nd surprise appears to have been borrowed from a popular movie of 3 or 4 years ago.)

I do appreciate the fact that this time Mr. Koontz broke away from his usual pattern of taking more than half of a book to slowly reveal the true nature of a mysterious event or situation. There are mysteries in Odd Thomas too, but you pretty much understand the major aspects of the plot from the beginning on. (The "keep 'em in the dark" formula has gotten pretty stale.)
