Summary: A new author! YESSSS!
Review: I have recently discovered David Sedaris and he is now among my favorite authors. Congratulations, David!! I love his sarcastic humor and the way he tells about his life in a way that makes me laugh out loud. This is a great sort of autobiography/novel meshed together in a way that I can not explain. Just read the book.

Summary: Funny!
Review: "Me Talk Pretty One Day" is a very humorous book about the author's different encounters, from growing up, to well..thinking he's grown up. It's a journey through his brain, and you dont have to read it all at once, it's the kind of book you can skip chapters and still understand it. A couple of the chapters are a little boring, but most of them are very funny.

Summary: A rare book that brings a family together... or something..
Review: I'd enjoyed David Sedaris in his occassional contributions to This American Life, but was always a bit reluctant to buy this or any of his other books... Last week, I bought this book as a birthday gift for a fellow TAL fan, and skimmed through it. I found myself in full guffaws in less than a minute. Before I knew it, I was genuinely enthralled. My family started asking what was so funny, so I started reading out loud to my family. We were all laughing so hard that our muscles hurt when we finally retired to bed several hours after we had all intended...

Luckily, I still had another day to buy a second copy to replace the gift...

Summary: Me Talk Pretty One Day
Review: Borrowed and plowed through this book in a few days on a busy vacation this summer. LOVED IT. Unusual humor, well written, easy to read and funny as hell. Some good themes to think about, as well. I only read a handful of nonfiction books a year, and am glad I grabbed this one. Couldn't put it down till it was over, and when it was gone, I was wishing for more.

Summary: Will Have You Rolling!
Review: Absolutely hilarious! I can't wait to read another one of Mr. Sedaris' books. The way he looks at the quirkiness of life, that we can all relate to, makes you SO GLAD that life can be so quirky! This guy has a fabulous sense of humor. Guaranteed enjoyment and laughs out loud. More! More! More!

Summary: Erratic
Review: Although I found moments in Sedaris' book laugh-out-loud funny and appreciated some of his more trenchant observations, I felt the book lost its momentum halfway through. From that point on, it seemed contrived, overextended and (in terms of humor) sophomoric.

In the end, this didn't turn out to be a book I would recommend.

Summary: Almost missed my plane reading this one.....
Review: I had listened to a PBS radio interview of David and became interested when the interviewer had David read a couple of excerpts from "Me Talk Pretty One Day". It sounded very funny. I too know that our everyday lives are the best fodder for humor, but wit, oh wit has to be earned. So while waiting for my plane to depart recently, I saw the book and decided to give it a read. I nearly missed my plane. David's humor had me laughing and smiling, to the annoyance of my fellow travelers. Never before had an author so easily drawn me into his world and entertained me so completely. I hadn't even known of David prior to the interview and reading this book. Now, I must read all his works and can only hope life continues to FORCE him to write and share his view of this really silly world.

Summary: Me Read A Good Book Someday
Review: After friends saw me reading Dave Egger's book, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, they quickly recommended Me Talk Pretty One Day. After reading this book, my only conclusion is that my friends wanted to show how good Eggers' book was by comparing it to its poor cousin by Sedaris. Sedaris throws together self-deprecating vignettes of his life and offers them up as entertainment. These chapters are presented to us with no discernible theme, point, or interest. He may as well have written 100 of these little "gems" and thrown them into a hat, randomly picking which ones he would include in his new "masterpiece". Although they are told with a modicum of wit and tongue-in-cheek humor, I can't help but compare them to those of a superior biography. Sedaris misses he mark by a longshot and I am once again forced to reassess the collective intelligence (or lack thereof) of those who create the Best Seller's List.

After reading this book, I feel as though my IQ has dropped to that of its author, simply by virtue of the fact that I got sucked into spending hard-earned cash on it. If this is what my friends call a good book, it's obvious I've got to get new friends.

However, I would be lying if I said that Me Talk Pretty One Day did not affect me in any profound way. David Sedaris has taught me that anyone can write tripe and be proclaimed a Best Selling Author.

Summary: Oh, What a Rotten Excuse for a Book
Review: The public was duped into thinking that this would be a book that someone would like to read. NOT SO! Yes, it was on the best-seller list, so we bought it. Bad idea. Two people in our household attempted to understand this tripe without success. The book is now resting where it belongs--in the recycle pile headed to the county dump. The number 1 rating is much too high.

Summary: A Definitely Entertaining Read
Review: It's been awhile since a book made me laugh out loud, and I try to read funny books often. This book definitely accomplished that and much more. I enjoyed how the book was written in episodes as opposed to a continuous storyline. Unlike many other books like that, it was easy to follow and fun to read. I recommend this book to anyone looking for laughter with a heart. I have just picked up "Naked" by Sedaris and am looking forward to another fufilling experience.
