Rating: Summary: Sad, sad sad little man. Review: This a very poorly written book. I couldn't even finish it, full of details, yes, but it really doens't say anything.
Rating: Summary: Tacky Review: This book is a cheap self serving way for Eric Alterman to make money of off the war on terrorism. I am a liberal New Yorker and was never for the war in iraq. But this book is so over the top with inuendo and fabrications, its silly. I wish alterman would show a little class and not have used to tradegy of 9/11 to make a few bucks for himself. It down right disgraceful.
Rating: Summary: Indispensable Review: This book is comprised of 419 pages that are laden with highly cogent reasons that illustrate the fact this Bush administration has been destructive to this country and why he needs to be made a one-term president. Alterman and Green use a format that juxtaposes what the administration officially has said versus what it actually has done, providing incontrovertible evidence to indicate this is the worst administration in recent history, and possibly in US history. Those of us who have followed this administration from its onset via news reports will find this book corroborates those individual reports quite accurately. The real value of this book is that it is the most comprehensive documentation of this administration published yet. Although these reports are generally available in newspapers and on the Internet, one must research extensively for them. Furthermore, while other books in this genre focus on only one or two policies, admittedly sometimes more in depth, this one covers all the pertinent aspects of Bush 43's mendacity. No matter what your passion, from the environment and the economy to civil liberties and the war in Iraq, you will find solid evidence here that this man and his administration have not only failed you, but have also purposely misled you while bilking you simultaneously. The timing of its publishing also could not be better because without doubt this will most assuredly compel you to vote this man out of office come November. Those inclined to believe Bush's rhetoric will benefit most from reading this detailed account because it illustrates the extreme disconnect between his rhetoric and reality and how he deceives by duplicity. It is indeed a shame that too few Americans will read this sober, scholarly book and heed the lessons it imparts. Personally, I find it incomprehensible that Americans are still able support to Bush after what he has demonstrated the past three-plus years, and indeed only the most reluctant to believe the truth will still support him. Some of what he has perpetrated is considered impeachable under charges of high crimes. What is more egregious is the fact Clinton was held responsible for receiving oral sex, for which he never, ever should have had to testify under oath. Even though I am not trying to justify his personal decisions, his actions did not personally affect me or anyone else (which no one can honestly refute) except his family. Perhaps the most inexplicable, shameful aspect is that the American public is not holding bush accountable for his actions, which have cost our country irreparable harm in terms of our reputation, our environment, our economy, class warfare and human lives (thousands of lives and counting). I get the impression that, despite the efforts of such excellent arguments as this book, the American public is unwilling to indict this man because it is either too indolent to read an entire book or it actually agrees with the man's policies. Whichever the case, both prospects actually frighten me and are cause for profound concern.
Rating: Summary: Why we need to vote Bush/Cheney out of office!! Review: This book unmasks the reign of havoc that the Bush/Cheney team has undertaken upon our country. This is a wildly zealous conservative administration totally intolerant to open mindedness or anything that differs from it's own approach. Simply put, this book argues convincingly that Bush must be defeated in 2004.The book makes a clear point that Bush is all about facades. In fact, it could be said that George Bush is as much a legitimate participant in the military during Vietnam as the fellow who portrays a cowboy in the band "Village People" is a legitmate cowboy.
Rating: Summary: Lies and the Lying Liars That Tell Them Review: This is just another piece of garbage from the Democratic Bush-haters. Nothing in this book is real -- it's all lies, made up by folks who think, as the Nazis did, that if you tell lies long enough, some fool will believe it. Why anyone would publish such garbage, much less sell it to the public, is beyond me -- they must lack all character in doing so. If there were honest lawyers out there, these authors would be sued for the libel they have foisted on us. Dont' bother buying this trash!
Rating: Summary: The dissection of a jackass Review: This might be the most informative book to date in what has become a rapidly growing -- and critically needed -- cottage industry: the denouncing of President George W. Bush. Eric Alterman's and Mark Green's impressively exhaustive research exposes the utter failures that are Dubya's foreign, domestic, economic, military, civil, education, healthcare and environmental policies. Each chapter begins with a specific quote or promise made by Bush within the past four years, then proceeds, harrowing fact by harrowing fact, to prove it ignorant, misleading, or, in many causes, an outright blatant lie. A truly scary but essential chronicalling of one of the most corrupt and incompetent men to ever lead a progressive, democratic nation.
Rating: Summary: On The Far Right Wing And A Prayer Review: Through this whole book, I was impressed by these authors restraint. They steered clear of off handed and juvenal remarks about President Jr. They stuck to a just the facts type of reporting and left the name calling to pundit crowd. This impressed me even more given that at least one of these authors, if not both have been roundly criticized by the far right and painted with the now too familiar anti American label basically because they dare to look past the surface on the current administration. The authors take the Bush presidency on one issue at a time and they painstakingly cover each mistake and policy decision and the effects they have on the country.
What impressed me was the clear and steady march the authors took in revealing the Bush administration missteps. One area that might leave the average anti Bush book reader a little disappointed with was the no-nonsense approach the authors took. One might even call it dull, but they just did not stoop down to any name calling or cheep shots. I always like a fair and balanced book , but even I was wanting them to take a cheap shot or pointed barb here and there. With the authors taking this high handed review, it sometimes came off a little pompous. Regardless of this slight criticism, this book was even handed and I think fair. The authors tell you right up front that they think the Bush team has made a number of mistakes and they then spend the next 300 pages detailing them out.
Given the large population of anti Bush books I have read, it is my opinion that this one falls into the top tier. It provides a large amount of detail and does not spend a lot of time on minor issues. The book probably would have been better served if the authors would have included maybe one of two items that they felt the President handled well, because it does seem to be a bit of a piling on about 200 pages into the book. Then again these types of book are usually meant to bolster a persons opinion and not create a fair historical look. Overall the book was well written, interesting and not overly negative. It had a tendency to get dry about the mid point of each chapter, but always finished strong. If you are an avid reader of this topic or if you are just getting started, this book is a nice addition to your collection.
Rating: Summary: Clean and powerful truth. Review: Well researched. Powerful indictment of a runaway administration. Recommended. Pay attention to the Doctor Moore review. Notice how each attack he makes on the book and its writers redound to a fair assessment of his own blindness. He is one of many examples of how the dangerous memes of right wing thought transmit their infections; even one paragraph of this kind of propaganda would take many pages to clear up and realign with reality. That's why attention must be paid, because his viral thinking is epidemic.
Rating: Summary: All in One Place Review: What I love about The Book on Bush is that it gathers the whole story in one place. I think I have read all the recent books on Bush, but if I had to recommend one to a Republican friend who is suddenly feeling very queasy, this would be it.
Rating: Summary: The Goods on Bush Review: While paper airplanes fly overhead re: the case Bush, in the considerable literature exposing the administration, this collation of data takes the issues to a more detailed level and puts substance behind the charges with a detailed reckoning citing particulars from the budget to the war on Iraq. Good backup for the books of Franken, Corn, et al. at the crucial point where the election cycle is starting to take off.
