Summary: Not for travel, but the best dictionary out there
Review: Absolute best Spanish-English dictionary on the market. This dictionary was recommended to me as a graduate student in Spanish by my advisor, one of the leading Spanish linguistics professors in the country-and it has never disappointed me.

When buying a foreign language dictionary, it is extremely important to look up a variety of words with multiple definitions, and see whether you are clear which Spanish word corresponds to which definition. A good test case is a word like "kid": be sure that you know the word in Spanish that corresponds to "child" and the word meaning "young goat".

Summary: a very good dictionary, . . . but
Review: I purchased this dictionary because the other that I have a) did not have definitions for many Spanish words I found in use. b) the definitions given did not describe the word as it was being used. That dictionary was rated a 4+ on Amazon. This dictionary so far has proven much much more comprehensive.

It does have three drawbacks that a purchaser needs to be aware of.
1) it is a very large book--at least twice the volume of my other. You will not be carrying it around with you unless your name is Arnold 2)the print is very, very small. My best guess is 6 point. Therefore, unless you are young with good eyesight you may need a magnifying glass to read it. 3) Now for my biggest complaint. There are a lot of examples of usage with translations. In many cases there is no definition of the Spanish word actually given, only examples of usage. However, many translations are no where close to being literal. This presents a problem because when one sees the Spanish word usage and the translation, one wonders what a particular Spanish word used in the phrase really means. It obviously does not mean any of the words of the translation so then one must look up the words in question.

Summary: Wonderful Dictionary
Review: I'm a very avid student wanting to learn Spanish. I chat online a lot in Spanish so wanted a computer based dictionary. Bought this one and love it. Looking up words is quick and the definitions are very extensive. Then the pronunciation is wonderful, sounds very realistic and non robotic. Although unfortunately there are no English pronunciations, which may be a downfall for Spanish students. There are several software downfalls in my opinion. First off your preference of pronunciation is not saved upon exiting, for instance say you choose Mexican Spanish pronunciations then you close the program then reopen it, the program will return to European pronunciations, kind of annoying although only a single click to fix. Also in the same manner dealing with which language you'd like to translate from, it always defaults to English>Spanish upon reopening. Another thing that really got to me was the fact that you can not overtype your text if it is highlighted like normal programs, instead you must first backspace the entire word or press the delete key otherwise the cursor just goes to the begging of the word leaving previous word there. When looking up verbs the dictionary does not find words which are conjugated, you must use the infinitive form such as tengo would not return tener you must type tener. And my biggest complaint of all is you can not copy the text which it yields as definitions. However despite these downfalls I really like this product and would recommend it to anyone, in fact I have :P. The definitions and pronunciations are what the software is made for just a few user friendly changes would have really made it shine.

Summary: Very good, but only Spanish audio pronunciation
Review: Oxford Spanish Dictionary on CD-ROM is very comprehensive in text and has features such as hypertext, double-clicking a word in any document... You can choose between Mexican or European pronunciation of Spanish. The quality of the sound is very high, and you can copy a large Spanish text to read. Then you appreciate that "Real Speak" program's results are much better than the artificial and robotic voice you can hear, for instance, in Microsoft's Encarta.
It's a pity that there is not English audio pronunciation.

Summary: Best in the market
Review: The best english-spanish dictionary so far. A perfect one for those who want to understand the true meaning of some spanish words that in Latin America have a different or sometines a double meaning. It is not a dictionary for travelers as it about 10Kg, but a great one for students.

Summary: Very good content; poor material quality.
Review: This is a very nice dictionary at an amazingly affordable price. I like the extensive definitions and examples and the blue-colored words for ease of search.

However--here comes the reason for my giving this product 4 stars--, while I was looking through pages, the cover page just ripped right off. This is a new, big dictionary so I was very gentle with it. However, the cover page was not very well fortified.

I taped it and now it's okay (who knows maybe the back side will fall off later), but from this incident I became very dissatisfied with the dictionary, although the content is excellent.

I really wanted this dictionary to last long. It's been only a couple of weeks after purchase.

Summary: Excellent dictionary!
Review: This is the best Spanish/English dictionary by far. As a gringo who has to read and write Spanish profesionally, I use dictionaries a lot. This one is up to date, has lots of idioms, and the layout and organization make it easy to use. ¡Fantástico!
