Summary: It's typical Tom Clancy: It's too much.
Review: Rainbow Six is all too representative of what Clancy has done since his first book, The Hunt For Red October. Rainbow Six is overwritten and underedited. It will become a best-seller on the strength of Clancy's name, but since Red October, which was a very fine tale, he's done only good book. That was Clear and Present Danger.

Summary: What's an REMF?
Review: I'm not quite done with Rainbow Six. As always, Clancy's novels are page turners. I can't wait to get home to get back to it. However, after the first 40 pages, Clark has called himself an REMF 5 times. Not being a Viet Nam Vet, this was really annoying and forced me to go on line to search for the term. And what is tempesting? This is mentioned twice already without any explanation. So far into the book, it would have been better if there had been explanation of these esoteric terms.

Summary: Clancy's Good, But Not The Best
Review: Tom Clancy is a fine writer and I enjoy his style and characters. He crafts entertaining stories and keeps the reader on edge waiting for how the heroes will save the day. However, I must temper this praise by saying Clancy is far from the best writer of the 20th Century. For you Clancy buffs out there I strongly suggest you read Alistair MacLean's "Ice Station Zebra", "Force Ten From Navarone", or "Puppet on a Chain". MacLean writes with a style and flair which is thoroughly engrossing, technically exciting, and light years ahead of Clancy in artistic ability and the shear art of storytelling. Clancy is Salieri to MacLean's Mozart.

Summary: Good but not his best
Review: The action is fast paced but one- dimesional. The characters just are not as developed this time. Not really disappointed but it could have been better.

Summary: Pap, Clancy has done much better..
Review: Clancy is a great technical writer, his prose flows pretty smoothly and he's great in the way he paints with words. It's just his premises are getting more and more flawed. The idea of the real villains all being addicted NPR and Dicovery Channel nature shows just made me shudder. His good guys seem more and more psychopathic as time goes on. In most of his previous books, you could relate to his characters in a positive way, The "good guys" in Rainbow are 2 dimensional murderous thugs who would give my id nightmares. So much of the plot gets strung together by happenstance because good police work is precluded by killing all the bad guys (even when it is not neccesary, even contrary to mission objectives, like in the park).

Of course the villains will come back in the sequel, look closely at the final chapter to find the hook.

Oh well, Tom's run had to end someday..<sigh>

Summary: Not a Disappointment to Clancy Fans
Review: Despite its title, Rainbox Six is NOT a book about three Fire Island couples. It's page-turning, techno-terror, tried-and-true Clancy. John Clark and son-in-law Ding return as do several familiar situations: children and hospital-based spouses the targets of hostage takers...killer viruses...traitor plants in the White House...elite soldiers with awesome gizmos. Sound familiar? They worked before, I guess they work here to...kept me up reading a couple nights in a row. And isn't that the point of a Clancy book?

Summary: Don't start to read this if you have to get up early
Review: The 700-plus pages may be daunting to some, but to fans of John Clark, it's just a satisfying mouthful. This novel seemed to have less emphasis on the mechanics of the various tools of warfare, and more on the personalities of the characters. The usual multi-threaded plot comes together in a heart-stopping, page-turning climax that is Tom Clancy at his best.

Summary: Just another masterpiece by the master!
Review: I personally like "Patriot Games" the best of all. But, this one ranks right up there. I love the way that Tom has developed Clark, and I would like to see him further develope Domingo Chaves' charachter. Again, he is a master spinster, equipped with tremendous political foresight, and an unreal technological mind. Go Tom!

Summary: Clancy Succeeds Again! I can't put it down.
Review: Somehow, Clancy has managed to top Executive Orders and Debt of Honor with this incredibly compelling story of international espionage. This time, John Clark takes over as Hero and Man of the Hour. I bought the book the day it arrived and finished it a day later. Hold on, and don't let go!

Summary: READ THOMAS PYNCHON
Review: Okay, my capsule review......Piece-of-crap. "Do I like Jack Clark or Ryan better? Does this one have more techno stuff in it? Is there a lot of action? Dddddddd.......you're no longer able to percieve correctly. Just take a deep breath and read the book again....."Hey, it's a piece-of-crap!" I know. "Hey, it doesn't share any insight into the human experience, Clancy, that hack, is just trying to get my fat dirty dollar and there's no heart in this piece-of-crap book!" You're absolutly right.
