Summary: Unexciting and prolonged
Review: I have read all of Clancy's books and must agree with those who feel this is far from what we have come to expect. Almost the entire book was spent in story development, leading to one very predictable event. With Clancy's books I find myself unable to put them down. With Rainbow Six I found myself having a difficult time picking it up.

Summary: Oh the mysterious world of Spec.Ops.
Review: Well, I must first say that I personally have never been directly involved with spec ops warfare. However, I have done extensive research on all groups of the special forces, and also know men who are currently or have been involved, and aspire to join them upon completion of college. My brief summary? Well, Carlos the Jackal was an entirely benine element that should have been eliminated before publishing. There were parts of the book that seemed to drag on forever. However, I did find the story intruiging. For those of you who were dissapointed in the combat scenes, you must first understand the purpose of special ops teams. They spend about ten times as much time planning a mission as they do executing it. They are hit and dissappeare rapid response groups. A typical mission should not be this long drawn out battle campaign. It should be bang bang bang, and in a minute it's over. Or at least this is what my friends who are in the biz have related to me. So I think those were depicted fairly accurately. Overall it's not Clancy's best effort, or worth the thirty dollars I spent. But it was not bad. My reccomendation, buy the video game, it's a lot cooler.

Summary: Very Good--not his best ever.
Review: As usual for Clancy, a well written, exciting novel. I even had to skim through the World Park section, because I couldn't take it.

That said, I wouldn't have minded a few less pages in the middle, and a few more at the end. I think it finished up (relatively speaking) a bit too quickly. And yes, a few sections were far-fetched. But I think that, for the most part, is nitpicking.

Review: I read most of the readers reviews, and i must say, what version of the book were you reading? I have read nearly ALL of Tom Clancy's books, and I can not believe some of the reviews i saw. First off, I noticed many of the people dont even bother to read the book. You buy the audio cd or cassette. READ THE BOOK! If there is one thing I learned is that the book is always the best. Not the movie, not the audio. The point is for YOUR imagination to work, not someone else reading it to you. A bedtime story? like a little child. Ranibow 6 was a very good book, and I personally didn't think it was too long, (how can you complain on length if you listen?) and the story kept me to the book for about 3 straight weeks. The charachters were very good, and the plot excellent. I personally like Clark, as a charachter, but from some of the reviews I read I seem to get the impression that if it is not Ryan, then it cant be good. WRONG. Go buy Rainbow 6, you will read it and enjoy it, if you like any of Clancy's other novels.

Summary: So much promise...
Review: The premise of the book was intriguing. That is something that you can depend on with Clancy. He tees up some interesting questions which make you think about the grey areas which surround the world of international relations. Maybe I am getting tired of the characters or maybe I felt that too much of the prose in this text was repetitious. Some editing of length would have benfitted the story. The other disappointment was the movement of the story to an inevitable conclusion. There were too many perfect shots and too many lucky breaks.

Summary: One of Clancy's worst efforts.
Review: Rainbow Six proves that Tom Clancy is just going through the motions and living off the reputation created by earlier works. If you're interested in Mr. Clark, WITHOUT REMORSE is a far better read. CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER is also a better told tale than Rainbow Six. The characters are shallow and poorly developed, the plot is totally implausable, Clancy tends to run on and on for pages when he should be concise and surgical in his writing, and the ending ... well, let's just say it stretches credibility to the breaking point. IMHO, Tom Clancy has reached the end of his run. I've read several of his most recent collaborations, and the same problems occur in each and every one. For my money, Tony Hillerman is a far better writer who says more in two paragraphs than Tom Clancy says in 200 pages. After reading Rainbow Six I felt Tom Clancy had shown little respect for his readers, and forced us to endure a poorly told tale for the sake of meeting his obligations to his publisher. Too bad. The Hunt for Red October, Without Remorse, Clear and Present Danger, and Red Storm Rising are the definitive Clancy. Everything thereafter is pretty awful ... especially Rainbow Six.

Summary: This book needed something else.
Review: I am a Clancy fan and have read most of his books. I was dissapointed with this effort. The premise is far fetched, the events are disjointed and the characters, superficial. While he is an acknowleged master, I feel Mr. Clancy is playing on his past reputation. I should have waited for the book at the library and not bought it. Mr. Clancy needs to get back to novels like "Red Storm Rising".

Summary: Let down... again.
Review: Along with many of the other reviewers, I too was diappointed with Rainbow Six. I'm a big fan of Clancy's earlier books but his work has been on the decline for some time now. The battle sequences held my attention but the rest of the book was a snoozer! Poorly written and poorly edited. And what is up with the photo on the back cover? Did he even serve in the military? What a poser! Enough with the ego trip, try producing some quality work Tom.

Summary: Not his best, but a good read
Review: Just finished reading the book last night -- actually the wee hours of this morning. Not as good as some of Clancy's others such as Clear and Present Danger and Debt of Honor, but it held my interest. With the exception of the book's climax, which I found riveting, the action "scenes" were not as suspenseful as in previous novels. John Clark deals with the antagonists in his usual unique and creative manner at the book's end. Overall, Clancy fans will not be disappointed.
