Rating: Summary: Dying "History" Review: I really wonder if Hillary would recognize a truth, even a simple one. My 1st recollection of her is when she was sitting next to her husband while he lied on national TV during the '92 primaries. She just sat there and nodded agreement as her husband told lie after lie to the viewing public. You keep doing that year after year and soon you can't recognize what is true and what it is that you would like to be true. That's why I can't believe her when she describes her emotions when she hears the obvious truth from Bill's own mouth. She is really describing what she thinks ordinary people would feel if they were betrayed by their spouse. She was already long past feeling anything when she was confronted by another betrayal and another big lie. She is to be pitied.
Rating: Summary: A trash by a renowned lady Review: Not only the women placed in the lowest ebb pollute the society, those at the highest ebb also do. And so she did by writing this book. She proved beyond any doubt (a) She was and is a liar, (b) She was greedy and hankering after wealth and status of the wife of a President for which she could dod anything (c) She failed to understand the mind of Monika, who had to agree to the passion of a great man like the ex-president of USA. Not only the concerned President, but also his wife polluted human society in general and such higfh positions in particular by their activities. I hate to see a lady of such mentality to turn to a 'writer'. I am sorry to say it, but this is the minimum.
Rating: Summary: Open up a little with us Hil! Review: Not a terribly revealing bio, most of this you will be familiar with. There are insights on what shaped her political transformation (from Young Republican to enemy of the right) obviously, and the bits everyone was waiting for (e.g. Monica) have already been trotted out in interviews and exerpts. I am amused by the reviews written here. It's obvious which are from the right and from the left. I'm pretty much a bleeding heart myself. It's funny to find so many people recommending right leaning books instead of this one- and some of the recommended titles haven't even been published yet! I don't blame Clinton for writing a book from her side of the aisle and being unapologetic for her views- I'd expect no less. Whether or not it is full of "lies" is certainly open to argument. I'm sure there are some slanted views, but I did not find anything boldly along the lines of "I did not have sex with that woman" here. I would have like to see more on her feelings about Whitewater. It's glossed over here. If you are a supporter, you'll find this a semi-revealing picture of the former First Lady, current Senator and dare I say future President. If you are a GOP Clinton basher, read it to give you something to gripe about, but don't expect it to be a mea culpa for any "crimes" of the Clinton years.
Rating: Summary: The Empress Strikes Back Review: Too many people spend too much time slandering Hillary (e.g., Ann Coulter, who wrote a popular how-to book with the very title). As Yeats wrote, "The best [those who want to let Hillary, who is a very smart, compassionate woman, have her say in her own words] lack all conviction, while the worst [the Bushies, Fox, Rush, Gingrich, Clear Channel, et al.] are full of a passionate intensity." Don't let some racist, money-grubbing, democracy-loathing slimbeball tell you what to think about Hillary; you can think for yourself, right? That said, this is a really good book. There is a sort of "gloss" on darn near every politician, Hillary and Bill included, but one is foolish to equate this with sincerity and honesty. I don't care for that varnish myself, but, well there it is, and I know more than anything the varnish is a public face that very public people (like Hillary, as opposed to the Dark Ones working undercover for R. M. Scaife) have to wear to hold themselves together in the face of an overwhelmingly sensationalist media. (Why is Fox #1? B/c it is the best? No, b/c it is the most sensationalist, the most slimey, the news media most akin to porn.) Well, this book may be seen as an extended layer of varnish--not so much the truth as the best spin (which everyone does, Mr. O'Reilly, you especially) on a very public, closely-watched life. Narratively it succeeds, though at points reading it is like eating sugarcubes--best done in short spurts. Would this woman make a good president? Beats me, but with the economy in a hole, our military tied up in a growing number of no-win situations (Mission Accomplished? I don't think so!), with nature and our few remaining public wildlands reeling from the unwise, shortsighted choices made by greedy businessmen, with almost all the rest of the world convinced we've lost our minds, and--I could go on--I think Pat Paulsen, dead or alive, would be preferable to the expensive suit that resides in the White House right now. Go Hillary!
Rating: Summary: Hillary settting the example for us all Review: If you like to be preached to, this is the book for you. If you want to hear more lies, this is the book for you. If you want to hear how you can't live without Hillary this is the book for you. Take a look at Hillary on camera, and take a look at Hillary on this cover. You'll see a serious difference. The airbrushing that occured on the cover is a metaphor for the whitewashing that occurs in side. You'll laugh and you'll cry at the chutzpah of a woman who can charge for telling these lies.
Rating: Summary: Lies? Lies? Lies? Review: A lot of reviewers say nothing but this book is all lies. Yet they do not list any of the "lies" as to why they make this assumption. I guess a lot of pre-schoolers got ahold of the keyboard, who knows? As for "lies," how about them WMDs?
Rating: Summary: Same Old, Same Old Review: Thank goodness I didn't pay for this rehashing of old tales. I borrowed it from a woman I work with who couldn't finish it after a week of trying. I muddled through it over two long evenings and came away wondering if I had better spent my time shampooing the carpets. Nothing new, nothing informative, nothing enlightening. Just the same old, same old.
Rating: Summary: Sets women' s rights back 50 years!! Zero stars!! Review: This book is an insult to the women of America. Any woman that stays with a man after he admits to [sexual relations] from an intern...is pathetic. But of course, if you're a charlatan like Hillary and you realize that this is a gambit for running for political office, than you stay put and keep silent. It would have been refreshing if she had used this opportunity to express candor or show some insight about her life as a first lady. However "Living History" offers none of that. Instead it reads as prep-work for her future campaign run. Hillary Clinton is a thorn in the side of many, but hopefully one that will pass with time. We can only hope that if she ever decides to run for office, a woman of true caliber like, Condoleeza Rice, runs as well, to embarrass her on the debate circuit.
Rating: Summary: There should be a no star rating for literary trash Review: Its bad enough that this country had to endure the Clinton regime, their controversial lives, and all the questionable activities of two of the world's most notorious liars, but now the former First Lady is trying to profit from a ridiculous book in an effort to whitewash their administration. As if any intelligent person would even be remotely interested in her political views! When are people going to stop rewarding politicians for their less than honorable acitivities? If you want to be patriotic, do not buy this book...Hilary and Bill should stop writing books and perhaps try reading a few...especially the Greatest Story Ever Told.
