Rating: Summary: Great job on a difficult subject Review: Wow - amazing! She deals with true soul-baring issues (that we all have a prurient interest in reading) as well as social issues. How amazing that she could be so forthright, even about the most painful subjects. Every single personal comment will be attacked, but she wrote it anyway. Already I heard a talk-show hack decrying her comments on how she found Bill's hands beautiful. She really is intelligent and socially caring (starting at Wellesley College). She is also arrogant or naive (choose the word depending on your party affiliation) - the changes to our health care system reflected both to a startling degree. It certainly doomed her ability to accomplish anything as First Lady and may prove to be a permanent anchor. What a sad state of affairs that we can't accept difference without personal attack. The book deserves 5 stars. What more could she have written? She took on the serious substance while also serving up the personal info that we crave. Kudos, Hillary!
Rating: Summary: At last, Hillary's side! Review: For years, Hillary Cliton has been attacked from everything from her politics to her hair styles. Now she gets her chance to set the record straight. Of course this will do nothing to silence the Hillary-bashers that seem to have no other live than attacking anything Clinton. I'm enjoying every page of this book! Go get 'em Hillary!
Rating: Summary: Rewriting of History Review: This book is incorrectly categorized in the non-fiction section. Mrs. Clinton's book is an insult to anyone who remembers what really happened, only a few years ago. Mrs. Clinton completely leaves out the fact that her husband was not on trial for having sex, he was on trial in a sexual harassment lawsuit and the so called 'witch hunt' against him was actually a focus on obstruction of justice, perjury, and conspiracy to obstruct justice. These are similar charges that were brought against John Gotti only ten years before. Mrs. Clinton only seem to want to create a grandiose picture of herself as the victim in this event. In all, this book is pure fiction fluff. Check The Clinton Wars as a better alternative.
Rating: Summary: Interesting look into a facinating woman Review: Put politics aside and peek into actual history as it was/is being lived. Whether you love or hate the Clintons for anyone interest in current events, world politics and movers and shakers...you will enjoy this book. Hillary proves that she is not one to sit by on the sidelines and have live pass her by, she is a very active, intelligent woman and yes, a great role model. I met her a few years ago at a reception for Pope John Paul and found her to be warm, personable and intelligent. I know she is a fan of my book, Awaken the Diet Within; From Overweight to Looking Great (Warner Books) and I am a fan of her book! Congrats Hillary! Well done. One note: Husbands cheat all the time, Bill is afterall, a man and only human. To err is human, to forgive is devine. She loves her husband and is honoring her marriage vows in not divorcing him over his human err. How can that be unethical or a coverup? If she left him, people would be standing in line to call her a divorcee and talk about her lack of committment to her vows! One would wonder if all the Hillary bashers who are choosing to grab onto this one small segment of her book are prepared to have their skelatons revealed before the world stage? It takes a brave person to share their heartache with the world, no one has a right to put her down for how she handled the most personal details of her marriage.
Rating: Summary: FABULOUS! Review: I just read this book this morning, and am just so delighted that at a time when the Angry White Male Right Wing controls or at least dominates all the media, we finally get to read a book from the human side. True, a lot of the stuff in this book may be positioning for a presidential run, and some of it may be rewriting history, but whose bio isn't basically self-interested? The woman is the closest thing we have to an American Heroine at the moment, and to be able to read her thoughts is a true gift.
Rating: Summary: Hilary earns her $8 million Review: This book was written by a team of writers to put the best possible spin on the life of Hilary as Mrs. Bill Clinton. It must have been very difficult to re-live all the personal tragedy she had to endure as First Lady. In her book, Hillary also notes that they did not realize the American people would balk at a First Lady taking on an active Administration role in dealing with Healthcare policy. Maybe it was because she was inexperienced and was in the process of producing a beauracratic nightmare? Like most autobiographies, this book puts the author in the best possible light. And, like most autobiographies, it gives an insight into someone's real self. It is a difficult book to get through unless you are the most ardent Clinton fan. Not recommended for Republicans or more sensitive readers.
Rating: Summary: Her life so far Review: Living History reminds us of the inscrutable wisdom that determines our place in this scheme of things. In Hillary Clinton's case, it should not be for what was embedded in a readers' mind after reading her book -- the defining moment where she "could hardly breathe, gulping for air..." What should not be lost is that Hillary Clinton is one of the nation's most brilliant minds. Her extra-ordinary gift of intellect and analytical skills serves the country well now as a senator and perhaps in the future as the President. Brilliance notwithstanding, a lot of hind sights from the books shows her being all too human and fallible: faulting herself for "botching healthcare", her insistence on the "vast right-wing conspiracy, the lingering doubts on whitewater. The book portrayed her as a survivor, coping with the trials and tribulations of her time in the White House: Her father died. Her mother-in-law dying. The Vincent Foster tragedy. And of course, Monica Lewinsky. Learning from her adversities, standing by her husband ("for better or for worse"), using her talents to serve the goals that are larger than herself or her shortcomings(and her husband's) -- this is her piece of history that time will prove admirable and lasting.
Rating: Summary: So, you've talked about her. Now, let her talk for herself. Review: I'm a "First Lady" book-fan. I absolutely loved Rosayln Carter's "First Lady From Plains". I've read books about Martha Washington, Dolly Madison, Rachel Jackson, Mary Todd Lincoln and Eleanor Roosevelt. So, now I've read a fascinating autobiography by Mrs. Clinton. Everybody has an opinion about Senator Hilary Clinton. Who hasn't talked about her? Admit it! So, now the Senator from New York wants to give us more information, only, from her side of the story. "It must be political", critics say. So what? She tells a terrific story. Most books share pleasant surprises with readers, or should, if they're good reads "Living History" is a surprise by how simply it's written- like, from the point of view of an average person given the same set of circumstances experienced by Mrs. Clinton during her husband's tumultuous but prosperous White House Years. Even more enjoyable are the warm and fuzzy photos of Mrs. Clinton's family, her childhood and beautiful photos of her more loving moments with her husband, President Clinton. She obviously loved her husband; she might still love him. Her story is a quick read, a splendid account of history told with emotion and, sure, it's also a timely publication. If people talked about you or me to the extraordinary and compulsive extent that they appear to dwell on Mrs. Clinton, well, hey! wouldn't we be feeling entitled to our own say, in response? Well, "Living History" tells her side with style. Moreover, Mrs. Clinton lived her history with dignity, grace and, ultimately, became victorious over her political adversaries. But, there's not one hint of smugness in "Living History". It's a book worthy of the extraordinary publicity it's generating. Regardless of how we perceive our former First Lady and Senator from New York, she's entitled to this moment in the literary limelight.
Rating: Summary: Mere rhetoric for a self-serving propaganda artist Review: I finished reading Hillary's "Living History" this week and was surprised to discover just how paranoid and extreme the former first lady really is. From the Whitewater scandal to winning the senate seat in the White House, this 570 plus page book fails to reveal to the reader just how evil this witch can be.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good book Review: I just love Hillary Clinton, but this is only after I read this book. I never really cared for her, but I decided to give this book a shot. Now that I've read it, I can see what an incredible woman she really is. I admire her greatly. As for the book itself, it wasn't the best thing I had ever read. Some of it was a little boring, but overall I thought it was worth reading. I enjoyed reading about her childhood and I loved hearing about her getting involved in politics. I now see her relationship with Bill in a new light, and I am glad she didn't dwell on the Monica Lewinsky scandal. She had a much bigger story to tell, and I am glad she did it. The reason some people may not like this book is because it reads more like a political manifesto rather than an out-and-out memoir. The times when she went into too much detail on foreign policies were things I could have done without. Still, I am glad I gave this book a shot because it really does make you see her in a new light. She is no longer the ice woman I once thought she was. Then again my family is predominantly Republican, so it's no wonder I thought that. It's hard for me to think I once thought so little of this incredible woman. Another reason people may not like this is because they were expecting a juicy gossip rag about the Lewinsky scandal. Like I said earlier, Ms. Clinton does not dwell on this and I love her for that. That is a time in her life she has moved on from and we should all take a page from her book. I have a newfound respect for Hillary Clinton. She has inspired me to become more involved in politics and I think she is just an amazing woman. Thanks to her, I have come to embrace my liberal views and am not afraid to be the only Democrat in a family full of Republicans. Go out and buy this book to get a glimpse into who this woman really is. She will get my vote if she ever decides to run for the presidency of the United States.
