Rating: Summary: THE guide to Parliamentary Procedure Review: This is an absolutely essential guide to running a meeting. Every presiding officer should have a copy available, and every member of a deliberative body should take some time to read up on it. Yes, it's thick, but there's a good reason for that--it covers everything. I have yet to have a question that this book could not answer definitively for me. Don't settle for a "watered down" verson of this book as your reference. Beginners probably shouldn't start with this book, but after having a basic introduction they should dive in head first. Even if you can't use it fast enough to raise a Point of Order at a meeting, use it after meetings to review things that seemed a little fishy or roughed over. You can then go into the next meeting sure that you know how to handle the situtation.
Rating: Summary: The ultimate Review: This is the definitive authority on parliamentary procedure I've been studying for over a year. The majority of the 700+ pages will never be used by the average member of an average organization. However, the fact that virtually every situation IS covered, is the reason to have the whole book. Because when it comes to meetings it's like Forrest Gump said "You never know what you're gonna get." Used in conjunction with the forum on their official website (robertsrules), this book can answer almost any question you can come up with.
Rating: Summary: The best book of its kind. Review: This is the one indispensable book to have at all of your meetings. In over 20 years of being a parliamentarian and 15 years as a teacher of Rules of Order, I have not found a better reference. If you're just learning, you might want to get a simpler, abridged version as a primer - just to let you know what is most important. It won't be long, however, before you'll want this book to use as a real tool to help meetings run more efficiently, in a shorter period of time and with a minimum of disagreements. It will also help you with those "problem" people at meetings. If you don't know Rules of Order you're at the mercy of those who do, or more often, those who pretend to.
Rating: Summary: Quality Parliamentary Procedure manual! Highly Recommend! Review: Very concise and easy to understand. Great examples! Best of all it contains a quick reference chart which is handy in immediate situations!
Rating: Summary: 'Robert's' Is Important To Know Review: While there certainly are other options to understanding parliamentary procedure, "Robert's Rules of Order (Newly Revised, 10th Edition)" is a traditional key to knowing the ways things are done.True, true... this isn't exactly the sort of book you bring to a coffeehouse on a Saturday. However, it is also true that if you are part of an organization that has organized meetings, 'Robert's Rules' is a great place to start. The liturgy of meeting procedure starts and finishes with the rules set forth in 'Robert's Rules.' Get this book, but consider getting one of the plain English versions as well. If you are new to parliamentary procedure, you'll find both books in tandem quite helpful. I fully recommend, "Robert's Rules of Order (Newly Revised, 10th Edition)" by Henry M. Robert III. Anthony Trendl
