Summary: No Dimpled Chads Here.
Review: After suffering through the escapades of our last president (...) and then having to endure another 40 some odd days of bent and dimpled chads I was ready for something other than a story about a President of the United States. Fortunate I came across a novel titled $oft Money. A wonderful story about, none other than, a sitting President refreshed my enthusiasm to read more stories about the sordid lives of our elected kings. I'd been given Brad Meltzer's book but had put it aside, for the aforementioned reasons. Needless to say I was apprehensive when I first waded into this story. I had read the reviews that ran the gamut from one star to five stars.

In a nutshell a young man, Michael, dates the somewhat wild and rebellious daughter of the President. The two people observe the strange behavior of a white house aid while they are on a date. Someone gets murdered and the daughter suddenly becomes unavailable to the young man. Michael becomes the suspect and he's left to prove his own innocence.

I enjoyed the premise of the story. And I found it refreshing that Meltzer chose to focus his story on a sibling of the great man rather than on the great man himself. Reviews show a range of bad to good for this offering from Brad Metzler. No one can agree. But then again what two people ever agree on anything, even on something as simple as say...a good cigar? My advice is to buy the book and make your own decision. For what it's worth I enjoyed the book.

Summary: Average at best.
Review: Another fast read from Mr. Meltzer. Certainly fiction that requires a complete suspension of disbelief.

However, all this ground was covered in his most enjoyable "The Tenth Justice" with a far more interesting cast of characters and a more subtle plot. This is merely a variation on that theme, and not as well done as the original. Some of the characters are simply cartoonish in their incredulity.

I found nothing original here and was underwhelmed.

Summary: Riveting
Review: White House attorney Michael Garrick gets caught up in a deadly conspiracy when he and the President's daughter, who he is currently dating, see something they shouldn't. The plot races along through limitless twists and turns, and Meltzer keeps you guessing until the end, where he finally reveals the rogue. The author develops the characters brilliantly, so at the end of the novel, the reader knows them intimately. The inside information about the White House, whether true or false, was an interesting addition as well. A riveting story that made the book impossible to put down!

Summary: Save your money on this one
Review: This book was loaned to me by a friend who thought I would enjoy it. At least the price was right. Brad Metzler has a slam bang start to his book which is encouraging to the reader in the hope that the rest of the book will live up to it. Unfortunately, the opening is the best part. The main character, Michael Garrick, an attorney working in the office of Counsel to the President is conflicted in about every relationship he has....with his father, his office mates, a particular FBI agent, a drug dealer and most importantly the daughter of the President. After a night out with the First Daughter, during which they discover the Counsel to the President entering a gay bar and then leaving to make a drop of $40,000 in a wooded area of DC in the wee hours of the morning, Michael's world starts to crumble as he tries to figure out who is blackmailing whom and ends up being the chief suspect. Powerful forces are conspiring against him and he remains clueless as to their identity, although not for lack of effort. Metzler has not figured out the motivation for his main characters as they ricochet off each other as the fast paced writing drops clever little gossipy stories about life inside the White House. Jack Quinn is one of those Metzler thanks for background information (yes - THAT Jack Quinn) so if he was drawing on the last eight years as a basis for his story, it becomes obvious why the story is so confused. Dialogue, which can be what makes or breaks a story, all has the same voice to it. The ending is totally unbelieveable. Few loose ends are tied up and little satisfaction comes from having the culpurt revealed. The good news is that it doesn't appear there will be a sequel.

Summary: Baloney
Review: The story starts out with a lot of promise, but the writing is simplistic, the characters are very shallow, and most of the plot unbelievable. There are no characters that are developed enough to enjoy or even like. Poor effort.

Summary: So Bad, So Awful.
Review: I will give Brad Meltzer credit for giving a detailed, insider's guide to the White House, but it still doesn't save it from being one of the WORST books I've read this year. The characters are unbelievable, the diaglone childish - and the ending was so awful that I'm AMAZED this made the bestseller's list. Why this is getting good reviews is beyond me. I'm sure this book is a big hit with young kids and those who are easily entertained.

This was the first book I've read where I wanted the main character to die so I wouldn't have to hear his whining. I will never read one of his books again. Please, Mr. Meltzer, learn to write and develop characters. Please.

Summary: Third Rate
Review: The editorial reviews were better written than this book. It's impossible to believe that our main character, Michael, could behave the way he does and have any intelligence whatsoever. Perhaps an abridged version would have come across better.

Summary: Talk about a page turner...
Review: I read Meltzer's third book faster than any I've ever read. The pace at which he spins this tale made it impossible fro me to put down. His knowledge of the logistics of the nation's capitol as well as the processes that take place there, make it feel as though you are listening to an actual White House staffer.

Kudos to Meltzer for getting better with each book. He is truly one to watch.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I dont know what the people that gave this book a bad review were thinking! The action starts in the first paragraph and doesn't stop! If I were you I wouldn't hesitate in ordering this book, Brad Meltzer has outdone himself this time. So be smart dont listen to the bad reviews and just buy this book!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Loved it!
Review: Fast pacing, lots of insider White House information, believable, witty at places (I especially liked that the main presidential opponent was named Bartlett), this book kept me guessing until the last page as to who the bad guy is!

P.S. I don't write about the plot - what's the point in reading the book, if it was already digested?
