Summary: Good, Not great...
Review: This was a pretty good book, but, like some of the other people said, some unlikely things occur. Like when Lucy found the body; how would Miss Marple know to look there? And Miss Marple had no evidence to support the ending. But this isn't a failure; give it a try.

Summary: Not much of detective work
Review: What Mrs. McGillicuddy in fact saw, as the American title says, while riding the 4:50 train from Paddington to the West, was a murder being committed in a passing train on the neighboring track. At first, the only person who believes her is her friend Miss Marple; as Miss Marple's investigation proceeds, the police become involved. The action centers around Rutherford Hall, the home of the Crackenthorpe family. Miss Marple is growing more frail, and has to enlist the help of her grandnephew David, who works for the railways, as well as the Lucy Eylesbarrow, who poses as a maid in the Crackenthorpe house and her protégé Inspector Dermot Craddock. Personally I found the solution more of an intuition and guess work than detective work. The story tends to drag on unnecessarily; and magically in the last chapter Miss Marple has a hunch and the mystery is solved. Miss Marple could have just as well have called in an oracle or a psychic and solved this mystery. An extreme disappointment.

Summary: Classic Christie Puzzler
Review: When police dismiss an unimaginative woman's claim of seeing a murder in a passing train, elderly Jane Marple feels duty-bound to explore the possibilities--and the result is a smartly paced, neatly plotted, and classic Christie puzzler sure to take in all but the most astute readers. Although not ranking with such triumphs as "A Murder Is Announced" or "Orient Express," newcomers and old fans alike are sure to enjoy it.

Review: Yes, I know the ending and discovery of the murderer was a bit farfetched, but other than that the book read well and was interesting. I would put this in her top 15. I don't even like Miss Marple and I enjoyed this book. Try it, okay?
