Summary: This book is garbage, just like it's author
Review: The only reason you should purchase this "book" is if you want hundreds of pages of glaring contradictions and IQ-lowering text. Bill O'Reilly's only viewers are the idiot TV addicts of America who like to pretend they have some sense of politics and like the feeling of having no idea what is going on. They choose O'Reilly because it is similar to day time talk shows, which is what they watch the rest of the time. O' Reilly obviously realizes that he isn't anywhere near talented enough to sit down and actually have a discussion or debate, so instead he switches to a loudmouthed, stationary method in which he asks questions faster than the other person can answer and either cuts off his guest or throws a temper tantrum when he is losing. His book just provides more of his self-proclaimed patriotism and never fails to make him look like an idiot. Bill O'Reilly is the Jerry Springer of political talk shows and never should have been published.

Summary: This book gives new meaning to the word crap.
Review: This book completely sucks. I warn anybody of any intelligence not to buy this book, it is complete drivel and a utter waste of time to read. I have found a new use for it as a door-stop.

Summary: Work harder on the next book, Bill!
Review: I enjoy watching Bill O'Reilly's TV show on Fox now and then, as well as a number of other political shows across the political spectrum. They careen from one extreme to the other but I generally find them interesting and entertaining. You expect that when you watch; they need to be provocative enough to attract an audience so they can sell commercials. Fine. However, some of them, O'Reilly included, push their news journalism backgrounds as well as their opinions. The implication is he is a more informed commentator than the typical pretty talking head, and I find that makes his TV show pretty watchable. The nature of the format of his TV show always leaves something to be desired however; with tight time segments there is frequently not enough opportunity to get deeper than simply interesting sound bites. I had read Bill's earlier book, the O'Reilly Factor, or rather, listened to it as a Book on Tape. It was good entertainment and had some provocative elements and as a result I looked forward to reading The No Spin Zone.

It was just ok and therefore disappointing. The No-Spin Zone is lightweight and does not accomplish what O'Reilly intends it to; convincing the reader that his position makes more sense than his opponents'. If you already hate O'Reilly, this book won't convert you, and if you consider him infallible, well, you'd wholeheartedly agree with his grocery list. I consider myself in neither camp. I'm just looking for an interesting read and to learn something new to help shape my opinion. I hoped to find a deeper discussion of his viewpoints or nuances to his arguments that just aren't possible in the time-limited TV format. You won't find it here.

The book is presented in 15 chapters, each on a specific topic or newsmaker (Al Sharpton, drugs, government oversight, etc), with an introduction by O'Reilly and an excerpt of an interview transcript from his TV show. We are supposed to read and make our own evaluation of which perspective (his or his guests') is most convincing. To his credit, he says that this format may be unfair, but heck, he is the guy writing it. He is more persuasive on TV than he is in print due to his aggressive personal style.
I agree with many of his positions (Jesses Jackson used to be an honorable soldier for civil rights and now is a racist corporate extortionist, we need budget accountability in Federal government spending, Bill Clinton lied and it matters even if it was only about sex, and so on.). However, in spite of the potentially lopsided format he rarely slam dunks his point home. In print you don't hear the volume of his voice or the scorn in his tone, just the words in his arguments, and they are frequently thin and incomplete. Maybe he would have been more convincing in the Audio book.

The anecdotes about why he wanted someone on his show or his days as a reporter in South America were exciting and the most engaging parts of the book.

The ironic thing about the book O'Reilly choose to put out is how light on opinion and argument it ultimately is. We're supposed buy his arguments because we were believers BEFORE we read the book. Well, that is the kind of spin that O'Reilly himself counsels us all against. In the No-Spin Zone on his TV show we listen to O'Reilly spinning his perspective every night; and why not? It's his show. But I wish he had taken the time to show up when he put this book out. This is a weak effort.

Summary: Deja vu
Review: Per normale, O'Reilly spouts forth witless, moronic drivel that would desiccate my cerebral cortex more quickly than would watching bread mold over (e.g., his moaning about that little First Amendment-protected right I like to call freedom of speech). Perhaps that's why his book strikes such a positive chord with a considerable percentage of the populace. I dunno. The book has one use besides maybe toilet paper: a joke book. Just pull a bit from his masterpiece, and voila! instant quip! Your friends, provided they have a scrap of intellect, will be rolling about on the floor! I would burn the book, but I wouldn't want even the gaseous traces of this work to pollute my airways.

Summary: My Opinion
Review: To: This book kicks your (expletive).
GWBUSH 2004. THAT'S RIGHT ALL THE WAY!

To: Michelle from In front of my computer, if you are not a citizen then go back to your country if you don't like us.

Someone mentioned Segregation & I would like to make a statement. MLK wanted to bring the people together yet his people push for the separation of white & black. Example:
· Black history
· African American
· Black Student Government

This is the way it should be:
· American history
· American
· Student Government

Who's separating???

This book is not perfect but nothing is, & if you do not read with an open mind then nothing can satisfy you. I liked the book and advise all to read providing you have the ability.

Summary: Terrible
Review: I have read this book from cover to cover, and I got as many laughs out of reading it as George Bush's speech writer must get from putting "misunderestimated" in GWB's speeches.

One of the few positive reviews was this one
"This book is a shining example of how most america does not understand the genious of that of bill o'rielly. not only is this book fascinating and informative,it is an expample of what us white supremiscits need. I know that all the other KKK members in our area around here in alabama have all read it and enjoyed it."

Okay, so let me get this straight, we are supposed to buy a book because it is well reviewed by a member of the ku klux klan and Bill O'Reilly 1000 times under different names.

Well, I must say it is quite a read, although I would not reccomend it for those with a weak heart; this book is painful to the eyes, and may cause serious damage to the internal organs such as the brain.

Summary: Unfair, unbalanced. Chew my foot.
Review: There are alot of things you can use this book for. You could make a paper wieght out of it, or use the pages for toilet paper, or lining for your bird cage, or any number of things. Just don't try to read it. I don't say that because I have a problem with being exposed to the opinions of others (unlike the author, who refuses to acknowledge freedom of speech as a constitutional right unless it's him doing the speaking), but because it will kill off brain cells. Not only are his opinions "ridiculous", boorish, and about as cutting edge as chicken noodle soup, but the writing he delivers them with would insult the abilities of an eighth grader. Honestly, I haven't heard such obvious, witless drivel since, well, the last time I watched his disaster of a show on Fox. If you enjoy being hand fed your ideas by a man who aligns himself with the working class on television and goes home everyday to a house which probably costs more than an entire suburban nieghborhood, or you actually like Bush, by all means, get this. If not, do your brain a favor and pass it up.

Summary: Closed-Minded Book
Review: All right, this book is very closed-minded. I won't go into details about the content of the book, because it will just anger me. If you look at the authors other readers of this book read, you'll find such prestigious names as Rush Limbaugh. It's easy to get this book, since you can get it used for 3 bucks.
Let's compare this book with "Stupid White Men" by Michael Moore. Moore's book was published 4 months after this book, and SWM's sales rank is 676, whereas O'Reilly's book's rank is 9,543. Also, there is less than a dollar difference in Amazon's new price, yet the cheapest version of Moore's book is 12.70, and, as mentioned above, this book can be snatched up for three dollars.
Sure, I didn't talk about the book much, but I like to point out simple trends that you can find easily on this very website. And if you've ever watched O'Reilly's show, you'll know that he sucks anyways.

Summary: One Sided
Review: It didn't really seem to cover all sides of an argument, or even consider alternative actions. For Example, the "Saving Children's Childhood" section didn't really mention anything about how kids are forced to perform at a calibur of adults, but are denegrated for engaging in the same activities.

Summary: I can't stand this man
Review: This guy is a complete idiot. His book sucks and his show sucks.
