Summary: not as good as his others...
Review: this book falls short of his other books. i found the characters to be uninspiring and follett just didnt grab and hold my attention with this book as he has done with his other books like pillars of the earth, eye of the needle, code to zero etc.

still an OK read...just not one of his best books.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good fictional representation of historical event
Review: This book is based on a true story about the espionage game in Cairo during WWII with a German agent trying to outwit a British counter-espionage officer. Follett has done a great job bringing a true story to life through fiction.

Summary: no good
Review: this book was not interesting at all. It went on and on and never came to a climax. The conclusion was the biggest piece of crap. I would not reccomend this book and I would never read again.

Summary: A Must Have
Review: This is one of the top ten for any self respecting World War Two Fiction fan. He was really at the top of his game during this periods and the subject matter is great. The story is very well put together with no down time at all; you just keep moving forward and a good pace. The characters are all interesting and developed with the right amount of detail. I also really liked the back ground info with was historically correct and the environment he describes. You really can image the sand. This is a great work that still stands up. You will enjoy every minute of reading it.

Summary: follett weaves another great story
Review: This is the 5th Ken Follett Book I've read in a row. Pillars of the Earth was the first and my favorite. This, while not as great as Pillars, is still a very entertaining read.

One thing I enjoy about his books is how he can use real events in history and real places in the world and weave them into his stories. The history doesn't overpower the underlying story though. At times you can think that you're reading an actual account of someone who was there, going through what the characters go through.

With very deep and true to life characters and a villain you love to hate, you can't go wrong. A great book for Follett fans and those who aren't familiar with his work alike!

Summary: Exciting historical thriller
Review: This is the first Ken Follett book I ever read and found it really enjoyable. It had all the elements a good read has - action, sex, exciting characters, suspense, etc... I can't wait to read more of his titles.

Summary: Brilliant
Review: This is the first novel I have read by Ken Follett and I am about to start Eye of the Needle. This book was fast-paced, exciting and well written. It had everything you need. A good story, action, adventure, style, and beautiful woman. Please read this book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good one, but not Follett's best
Review: This was a great spy novel, although not on par with The Eye of the Needle. I have a couple of major criticisms for this novel. 1) The hot-n-heavy sex scenes. I know that this is a major way in which Follett departs from peers like Tom Clancy and Jack Higgins, and therefore is a reason for Follett's specific (yet expansive) readership. Not that I find the description of sex offensive; I think the stories would be better off if those things were left to the imagination.
2) The 'cat & mouse' game at the end of the book between Wolff and Vandam. I won't give away any of the major plot developments, but there was several times in the last 50 pages or so when I found myself saying "Just pull your gun and arrest 'im already!"
As you can see, however, I thought the book was good enough to merit 4 stars. It's an entertaining tale.
