Rating: Summary: Roses are r.. Violets are.. I bought this book so should you Review: Facing personal dilemmas of his new family not wanting him involved Alex Cross again tracks a group of serial killers in this brilliant book. Banks are being robbed and employee's families are being taken hostage while the banks are robbed. If every single thing doesn't go right they are killed. A serial killer known as the Mastermind is responsible and Cross along with a new partner FBI agent Betsey Cavalierre must stop him. The closer they get the closer the victims are to them. Like all Patterson books the short chapters make this an easy fast read. This is one of the best Alex Cross novels written but I would recommend reading a few of the earlier ones first to get the most out of this one.
Rating: Summary: always enjoyable, but predictable Review: what more can i say, if you like alex cross and you like the formula, you'll like this book; you probablly won't love it though (as i didn't) because it was a little less intense/driving than his other books.
Rating: Summary: Alex Cross Does It Again With the Mastermind! Review: In this heart-pounding thriller, Detective Alex Cross pursues the most brilliant killer he's ever confronted before. This mysterious killer calls himself the Mastermind. In a series of crimes that has stunned Washington, D.C., bank robbers have been killing bank employees and their families if their robbers instructions are not followed exactly. Alex Cross knows that this is no ordinary criminal. The pathological need for control and perfection is too great. It takes a lot of planning and thought for Alex, and the group of many other detectives to solve this case and tackle this monster once and for all. In each book that Patterson has written, he always makes you wonder what's going to happen next.
Rating: Summary: Roses are Red...Author should have performed more research. Review: My husband and I listened to the audio book of this publication on our way back from Virginia this past weekend. The story moved fast and was interesting. Some of the chapters were surprisingly short...as in only a few words (very strange). The number of chapters in this story exceeded 100, seems to me a story of this length should have been able to be told in 25-35 chapters tops. We were guessing throughout listening to the story, as so who the Mastermind was though, so it did hold our interest. I do have a few quibbles, which could have been avoided if the author had performed a little more research: 1) It is mentioned that lilies, sunflowers and daffodils were in bloom at the same time....note daffs bloom in the spring...sunflowers in mid to late summer. 2) The Appalachain Trail isn't as close to Washington DC as the author states. and 3) There is no "Secretary of Justice." That said, if we are on a trip again, I may listen to the follow-up story Violets are Blue (namely because I can borrow the audiotape from a friend.
Rating: Summary: Roses Are Red Review: Roses Are Red is a book full of murder, suspense, shock, and surprise. IT is by the author James Patterson he has a very interesting and creative mind to have come up with something like this. It was published in 2000 by Warner Books. I thought that this book had a very shocking conclusion which made me want to read Patterson's next book "Violets are Blue" I would suggest this book to someone brave enough to handle the gore, patient enough to handle the suspense, and mature enough to understand. This is a great book for someone wanting to be scared, it gave me nighttmares, but that's not a bad thing. The story starts with a man name Alex Cross. He work's as a detective in Washington DC. At first everything is perfect, until an FBI agent and friend of Alex's comes to his house to tell him some news. "This is particularly bad Alex. This one has really struck a nerve." There had been a bank robbery earlier and not just a bank robbery, but a murder also. The robbers were split up. Some were sent to the bank, and the others were sent to the bank manager's house. The manager's wife and kids were held hostage. They weren't to die as long as the manager got the robbers the money and the robbers were out of there at exactly ten after eight. The robbers were just a few seconds late. All of the victims, dead. These shootings/bank robberies kept going on. One by one various banks in the DC area were being robbed and innocent people being held hostage. Some killed, in some bank robberies the people lived. It never had a pattern, never had clues, the only thing the FBI and detectives knew was that the whole thing robberies and murders were being planned by someone named the mastermind. Meanwhile at the FBI headquarters, Alex and a team of workers, one of which was Betsey Cavalierre who was in charge and whom Alex had a crush on, were working day and night to crack this case. The mastermind performed another stunt by hiring workers to hijack a bus from the metrohartford, a big insurance company, and steal money using the hostages. This shook up everbody. Detective Cross and Agent Cavalierre did find out a couple of things. 1. The mastermind was hiring new crews for every case and killing all of them. 2. One of the hijackers on the metrohartford bus was Brian MacDougal. He told the agents that the mastermind was checked into a mental hospital. 3. The mastermind had a sick mind. Alex Cross and a buddy detective of his went to work at the hospital for a couple of days just to see if they could catch the mastermind. They had a few people that stuck out, but most of all Frederick Szabo. Alex followed him one day and made an amazing discovery. Alex also found out that you can misjudge someone.(most of the time you think they are bad but turn out to be good...) I would encourage you right now to get off of the internet and read this book. Maybe buy it off of Amazon or something. This book will let you know that you never know what is going to happen. It is full of suspense, but don't worry suspense can be a good thing. Alex does not only have work problems, but he also has some home problems too. You can learn about holding on and never letting go of something. IF you work at it you will succeed. I am asking you to please read this book, I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did. So I leave you with this quote from the book:"I see you Detective Cross. I see you, but you don't have a clue who I am. I could walk up and touch you." "You're part of it now. Be extremely careful Detective Cross."
Rating: Summary: REFRESHING Review: HOW REFRESHING TO HAVE A COMPLETE SURPRISE AT THE END OF A STORY. ... ONE THAT WAS NOT EXPECTED AND IMPLICATED BEFORE. IF IT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU TO HAVE CLUES AS TO WHO THE PERPERTRATOR IS, THIS IS NOT THE BOOK FOR YOU. BUT, IF YOU LIKE SURPRISE ENDINGS, ROSES ARE RED WILL NOT DISAPPOINT.
Rating: Summary: Simply the worst of the Alex Cross series Review: James Paterson is an author whose quality is highly fluctuated. Some books can be classfied as a classic while some are just junks. However, I would say in general Alex Cross series is better-than-average. Along Came a Spider gives you an eye-opening experience in 2 1/2 page per chapter, ultra-high paced, double narrative style of writing a truly complicated and good thriller. Kiss the Girl sublimated to another level - more effort to character development. Nana, Alex, Kate or Casanova. But in Roses Are Red, the shortest of all Alex series, is just soooo flat..yes it has several twists, but it is just like watching a B-grade slasher thriller. After reading it, I truly believe Mr. Paterson was writing in a hurry, without too much preparation to weave a more complicated plot, or he can't wait to earn money from the Alex Cross fans. The only thing that moved and touched me about this novel was the saddness torturing Alex - about his daughter, Christine, .....
Rating: Summary: A Mastermind Review: Roses are Red is a tremendous story of robbery and murder. We follow Detective Alex Cross as he tries to chase down yet another criminal genius who calls himself the Mastermind. The Mastermind is on a rampage of robbery/murderers that seem to be planned to specifically undermine those who are hunting him down. This is a fast paced, can't put it down, great read. Just when you think you know the identity of the killer, surprise! You were wrong the whole time and he was right underneath your nose!
