Summary: How Can Anyone Not Like This Book?
Review: After reading all of the Amazon reviews on this book that called it "Garbage", "HoHum", etc. I had to get my hands on it and read it myself. And just as I suspected, the people who found something wrong with this story are the exact type of people that Grisham's characters are trying to escape from by "Skipping Christmas".

If this book caused you to shift uneasily in your chair and grumble internally, then YOU are the drunken bore at the office Christmas party, the person with 14,000 lights on your house, the pushy person in line at the mall, and the rude underacheving store clerk all rolled into one!

This is a great, lighthearted and entertaining read for people who enjoy Christmas for what it is - commercial or not!

Summary: skip this christmas book
Review: Having read most of Grisham's other books , and enjoying most I jumped at the chance to read his latest as an escape from the hustle of the holidays. I should have skipped , "Skipping Christmas". This was certainly not his best venture. I almost wonder if he even wrote it! By its pure brevity I knew there wouldn't be much there as far as plot, but thought it might be inspiring like, "The Christmas Box" of past years. It was so predictable and sterotypical. It might just make it as a script for a Chevy Chase movie--the part when Mr. Krank falls off the roof-- oh, wait a minute ,that's already been done! I almost wonder why he wasted his time on this. Surely he doesn't need the money and I wouldn't waste yours.

Summary: Another Christmas story
Review: While I truly enjoy John Grisham's writing and writing style, I was a bit disappointed by the characters in this novel and the story itself. I've no doubt that this will be turned into an annual Christmas movie to be played with such favorites as "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" or "Scrooged." In fact, I can see many resemblances to Chevy Chase's hijinks as the main character, Luther Krank. Unfortunately, I can't say that I'd want to see the movie. Maybe it was just my anger toward Luther and his wife, their actions and reactions. They weren't people I particularly care for. And their decisions were rather foolish for well-educated people. In fact, no one in the book was particularly memorable or someone I could identify with or care for. And, not to spoil the ending for anyone who hasn't read this quick-read book yet, but when the emotion was just starting to build--finally--after a couple hundred pages leading up to it, it quickly died out. So, while I truly enjoy John Grisham's writing style, I didn't care for this particular story from him.

Summary: Hats off to you Mr. Grisham!
Review: What a fun read for the holidays! Prior to reading "Skipping Christmas" I was a true Grisham fan, but now even more so. I really enjoyed taking a break from the serious side of his writing to this light hearted book that had me laughing out loud. Since reading this book, I have noticed that there are huge "Frosties" in several front yards in my neighborhood, and I have developed a new appreciation for "smoked trout". This would be a wonderful Christmas T.V. movie. Please keep up the great work Mr. Grisham, and Merry Christmas!

Summary: Proving the power of a brand
Review: Grisham is a strong brand, nicely demonstrated by the fact that hundreds of thousands of suckers, myself included, rushed to buy this thin story hoping for another Grisham pageturner.
Do we keep the faith and buy "The Summons" after this deeply disappointing offering??

Summary: GREAT Holiday Read
Review: Must admit this is my first Grisham read so I cannot compare it to any of his other writing.
I found this to be a good book and one that I will surely read again.
The holidays can be so nerve-racking that the thought of skipping it all could be very exciting.
After reading this book you will not look at the holiday festivities the same nor will you be able to look at a plastic frosty the snowman without thinking of this story.
This is a good read no matter what time of the year it is.

Summary: Skipping Grisham
Review: This is probably the result of a publisher telling Grisham that they will pay him many millions of dollars for three books in two years. I can think of no other reason for Grisham to write such a stupid book. This is definitely a bah humbug book. I will buy no more Grisham books until I have checked with friends whose opinionsI respect and who have read the latest Grisham books. I have checked with several friends who have read this book and none of them liked it.

Summary: A new holiday classic
Review: I must admit that I can relate to Luther Krank.Although I love Christmas, sometimes I feel that I can do without it. This book would certainly make a good movie.

Summary: shallow and racist
Review: The only reason I bought this book is because I had read and liked some previous books by Grisham. I definetely don't recommend it! It is a shallow book, nothing special about it but most important, clauses like "he wasn't dark at all" a comment that makes a dark! expected Peruvian suddenly handsome and "he moved up another notch" because he had been educated abroad in England (Peru is not abroad??) are unacceptable.
Grisham dropped more than a couple of notches!!

Summary: GREAT CHRISTMAS BOOK
Review: This book is, as it says somewhere on the cover, "a modern holiday classic". It is about a couple whose daughter leaves to join the Peace Corps and help people less fortunate. Her parents decide that since she isn't going to be home with them, they will skip the hassle of Christmas all together (no lights, no tree, no cards, not a single thing) and go on a ten day cruise. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) things do not work out at all as planned.
This book is very short and sweet. I read in one sitting while sitting in my favorite chair under an afghan (it's cold here in Cleveland!) on Christmas Eve. It not only entertained me and made me laugh, but it also put me in the mood for the holidays. I will, without a doubt be re-reading this book many Christmas Eves to come. It has become a part of my holiday ritual and I'm sure you will feel the same once you read it.
(By the way, Grisham is coming out with another book called The Summons this coming February. It is a regular length Grisham book unlike this one, and from the title, I'm guessing it has lawyers in it which means Grisham is returning to his original genre. Two books in one year! What luck for us Grisham fans!)
