Rating: Summary: A fair and balanced look at the conflict in Iraq Review: Many books written in the recent months have been used as pullpits for one stance or another. However, this book in question, i.e., Plan of Attack by Bob Woodward (Author) defies that trend. When I picked it up I was very weary and bit worried that it would be another liberal hack job. However, to my big surprise it was very well written.
Rating: Summary: Very good account of the inner workings of the Adm... Review: Its funny I have read many of the reviews hear and I see that these people aren't actually reading the book. Its obvious that they are basing there reviews on Woodward's interview on 60 minutes and that is very funny. On that interview, they focused on the negative, to get on the anti-Bush bandwagon so that those anti-Bush people (who are buying the Moore, Frankin propaganda books) would buy the book as well (knowing they won't actually read it) and that was brilliant. What you get when you read Paln of Attack is an inside account of the inner workings of an administration making a HARD decision to go to war. We have all the pros and cons laid outfor the President. The evidence presented to a president who is on top of everything, skeptical and in charge, was presented as a slam dunk (read the book). So the president decided to make the hard choice and go to war; even if we have to do it alone (of course we do have some help Great Britain, Italy, Poland, etc.). Woodward's shows President Bush in a totally different light then all the anti Bush Books, and that is because he got on the inside (he of course has biases we all do). While this book is not absolute truth, we must remember there are always flaws, and choice and biases, etc., it is still a very good account of the inner working of the Bush Administration and will be a good resource for Historians in the feature. This is a good read, and if you bought this book, just cause you thought it was bashing Bush; Read it I dear you!!!!
Rating: Summary: Credibility of Top 500 / 1000 Reviewers Tarnished...... Review: I have not read the book, (So I gave it 3 stars as to not distort the ratings by a great degree.) but I have learned enough about it to see that it counters pre-conceived notions of the left/right political viewpoints. Overall, the book reflects positively on the Bush administration, and won't be the fulfillment of the NPR wannabes. Woodward's apperence on 60 Minutes was done in a manner only to generate book sales, and was not an accurate reflection of the book's content. (Proper context) It is actually quite funny to watch the aftermath. For those who cackle with glee that there was disagreement among high ranking officials in the Bush administration....well DUH. Every admiistrtion will have disagreements. For those who are married, have you ever disagreed with your spouse? Yet you still love and care for your spouse. Or your children who you disagreed with. I may be a card carrying member of the right-wing conspiracy and a charter member of the Ann Coulter fan club. But I have also read severalof Woodward's books. It was mentioned in "All the President's Men" that he was a registered Republican at that time. Maybe he stillis. Still, it does not matter. I have enjoyed past tomes and place a strong level of credence in his work. SUGGESTION to the "Top" reviewers of Amazon. Read the book before you comment on it. That wa, you won't look like an idiot.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Read Review: I really enjoyed this book. Woodward has proved himself with his work at the washingtonpost and this book follows his excellence. P.S. To the person from Anchorage Alaska, I'm glad you are not apart of the continental U.S. because you sound like a brainless moron. Maybe a terrorist will attack you.
Rating: Summary: Book of Ages Review: I am still trying to figure out if anyone who wrote a review actually READ the book. The book is a rich and intimate account of the personality behind the decision to go to war. What this book DOESN'T do is demonstrate or prove any of the off-the-wall liberal criticisms of Bush. Specifically: 1. It demonstrates that Richard Clarke was OUT OF THE LOOP. He says the decision to go to war was made in February of 2001. The book shows the president made the decision in January of 2003. 2. Liberals claim Bush fabricated and sexed up intelligence regarding the WMDs. In fact the book shows Bush as THE SKEPTIC and that George Tenet is the one who said it was a "slam dunk." 3. It shows that Bush is a man of character and conviction--and that he surrounded himself with a staff of accomplishment but with differening opinions. This book is not the "gotcha" liberals want it to be. It is fair and often critical but by no means Bush Bashing. Liberals should stick to their conspiracy theories and books written by fired/passed over employees needing money for their retirement. Cheers!

Rating: Summary: SUPRISINGLY PRO-BUSH Review: Woodward again shows the President in a highly favorable light. After watching the interview on 60 mintues, I expected this book to be just another pamphlet in the tall stack of anti-Bush propaganda. I was suprised. As in his earlier book, Bush at War, Woodward depicts Bush as a serious leader, surrounded by the best of the best, making difficult decisions to protect our nation and fulfill his duty as President. Woodward also highlights Bush's interest in the accuracy of the intelligence provided him by his intelligence services. Much was was made on 60 Minutes of Bush's desire to improve the lives of people around the world. The book showed this as well. Isn't that great? Is there a problem with this? You can be certain that if a democrat President said the same thing, he would be kissed on the forehead by a beaming Mike Wallace. Apparently the complaint isn't that a President might say or believe in the betterment of our world, but rather that he would take action to make it happen.
Rating: Summary: Tricks+Greed, Watch us Bleed, Give us Something Good to Read Review: The lies, deceit and ineptness of George Bush are revealed in this book which has been endorsed by George Bush himself. Riveting. This book is a must read that you will not be able to put down. Bob Woodward (a Republican and Bush supporter in 2000) delivers what many have attempted...the truth. A true, behind-the-scenes look at how George Bush and his administration duped the gullible American people into supporting an unjust war. The removal of Saddam Hussein was Bush's number one priority from early on (if not from day one) in his presidency. Planning for the war against Iraq began within weeks of the 9/11 attacks. Funding for the fight against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan was secretly diverted to fund Bush's war. This book reveals the events and timeline leading up to the Iraq war and the currently evolving repercussions of the war. The secret funding and planning apparatus put into place by George Bush is brought to light. The republicans have already started their damage control engine to try to soften and discount the hard edged truth revealed by this book. Although the book has been endorsed by George Bush himself and tops the "suggested reading" list (at least at the time of the book's release) on his campaign website, many of the major players on the war team have started to deny the facts of the book. Did George Bush really think his book made him look good? Did he read it before he endorsed it? Did his unusually low IQ prevent him from understanding the information presented? One has to wonder. The book paints a very painful portrait of the most ignorant, arrogant, inept and morally corrupt president we have ever endured and how he manipulated the American public, the media, our government, foreign governments and members of his own inner circle to build support for the Iraq war. The "war footing" Mr. Bush so oft refers to is built on the shifting and unstable sands of deceit. The president who never admits a mistake and never takes responsibility for his actions has shot himself in the foot by revealing the truth to Bob Woodward. Conservatives, Liberals, Republicans and Democrats alike will find this book fascinating and come away with a feeling of having been stung by George Bush's failed and dangerous policies. Whether or not you agree with the war, all Americans deserve better than to be lied to and mislead by their leaders. This book is just one more piece in the puzzle and one more reason to oust George Bush before it is too late.
Rating: Summary: Bob Woodward at the erudite--but impotent--top of his game Review: Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein were told by a number of people who wisely wished to remain secret about the Nixon Watergate tapes, realizing that Nixon was upsetting the balance of power by committing crimes against powerful Democrats that had only been theretofore secretly authorized to commit against weak ones. The lionization of Woodward since then, while earned, has become woefully exaggerated--for a political purpose. "Afghanistan had been planned for several years prior to the terrible tragedy that occurred on 11th September on US soil...[It] then considers the development of Afghanistan as well as within the United States, as a consequence of the US-led military intervention that began October 2001....Neither the facts, nor the inferences I draw therefrom, are palatable. However, they are worthy of urgent consideration, not only from members of the public, but by our purported political leaders and representatives..." Nafeez Moseaddeq Ahmed, Preface THE WAR ON FREEDOM Woodward's book PLAN OF ATTACK is, like all of his books, well-written. But, like ten percent real penicillin in a world where only full strength will cure a disease, what he leaves out--purposely--is frightening. In comparison, Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed, author of WAR ON FREEDOM, through more than *six hundred* footnotes, political and historical analysis, quotes of everyone from European and Afghani political analysts to New York stockbrokers to American congressman and FBI agents--and some of the most erudite, plain language scholarship I have ever read--goes far beyond hinting at the possibility of possibility the way Woodward convinces people what investigative journalism has evolved into. Ahmed, responsibly, irrevocably changes one's view of history and current events entirely, such that one is left with the profoundly disturbing fact not by saying that his main theory is true, but by proving unquestionably that, disturbing or not, it is the only one that makes sense. Woodward gives an insider's look at the intimate struggles of the Bush, Jr. Administration. But as he is definitively an insider with clout to protect, Ahmed, an established outsider, forces us to question the relevancy and legitimacy of Woodward's entire perspective. Woodward essentially gives us *investigative journalism-lite*, despite its surface appearance; Ahmed gives us investigative scholarship the likes of which can only demand a paradigm shift in one's thinking, regardless of how you choose to reinterpret his fact-finding when you put the book down. If you've ever wondered what the Catholic bishops must have felt when reading the work of Galileo for the first time, or the Protestant community of the 19th century reading the work of Darwin, or what the Newtonian physics scientific community felt seeing Einstein prove his point about relativity, unlike Woodward's PLAN OF ATTACK, the scholarship of Ahmed will let you know in perhaps the most politically frightening way possible. In the end, whether or not you choose to follow Ahmed to the end of his theories, you will be left with a totally new understanding of the secret architecture and raison d'etre of both modern history and modern war. If you didn't know that FDR knew the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor because he set America up to be bombed in 1941 in order to get the isolationist minded American populace to join World War Two--and how he did it--you will learn it here. If you didn't know that there were plans in the military (kept classified until the Freedom of Information Act of 1975) of terrorizing and even killing American citizens in Miami and throughout Florida in such a way that it would look like Castro's military did it to justify an American invasion of Cuba in 1962, you will learn it here. If you didn't know that the total absence of military response to the hijacking of American planes before they hit the World Trade Center on September 11th is something that has NEVER happened before in FAA or military history, you will learn it here. If you had no idea of the unusual and otherwise inexplicably heavy trade on the stock market that took place days before September 11th regarding Airline and oil stocks, you will learn it here. And if you can find a way to digest all of that, plus 1) hundreds of other provable historical/foreign policy facts of the European/American 20th Century from a plethora of credible sources--in and out of America--he brings to light, 2) the political/economic agendas behind the secret psychological architecture of modern day war explained with amazing clarity, 3) the revealing of our current Administration's relationship with International Oil cartels for the past three generations, and 4) the seemingly infinite number of both otherwise inexplicable anamolies AND examples of unprecedented ineptitude regarding both the intelligence community and the military's failure to prevent 9/11 from happening, WITHOUT coming to the same conclusions the writer of this book does...than God bless you. I cannot. This is just a little bit bigger than a phony land deal in Arkansas and some oral sex in the Oval Office. Woodward's PLAN OF ATTACK is essentially an apologia to both the administration and investigative journalism, and the divided loyalties obscure and cheapen the book's intrinsic relevance. Ahmed, on the other hand, makes it clear through the WAR ON FREEDOM that we are long overdo for a full investigation of our Administration. If for no other reason as it will be the only thing that could make HIS nightmare of a book go away. There are some books like Woodward's PLAN OF ATTACK that every American should read to strengthen their own mind or enrich their own lives. WAR ON FREEDOM by Ahmed is one book every American needs to read in order to save our Nation's soul--the soul Woodward seems to have sold with PLAN OF ATTACK for the benefit of controlling his reputation in history. I suggest you read both, and come to your own conclusions.
