Rating: Summary: Trying and trite Review: To be fair, I've only read up to page 82. But since I have no intention of going further, I will comment on what I've endured so far.
The particular sentence that sent me into helpless laughter and caused me to give up was: "This is my colleague, Dr. Coral Novak."
I'm sorry. I know there MUST be people out there with first names of Painter, and Omaha, and Coral. I just haven't met them yet. But to have every freakin' significant character show up with a wacko name is just too much for me. (OK, there was "Kara Kensington", but doesn't that sound a lot like "Lois Lane"?) All the women are beautiful and angst-ridden, waiting for a Real Man to straighten them out. Please. This is a long comic book, except the art work sucks.
I give it two stars because Rollins spelled most of the words correctly and none of the pages fell out of the bindings while I was reading.
Rating: Summary: Rollins's best work yet... Review: What I love about Rollins is the way he lets me escape into a world where the incredible becomes credible. I've read every one of his books, and I always find myself assuming something supernatural is afoot, only to have Rollins bring in just enough science to make it plausible within the story world.
Sandstorm did just that to me, but there was something different from his prior books. I think he's kicked his prose up to a higher, richer plateau. Yes, all the great escapist fiction elements were still there: the can't put down pacing, heart-pounding excitement, characters seemingly trapped with no chance of escape. But this time these elements are presented in a more robust fashion that I found very pleasing.
Well done, Mr. Rollins. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Rating: Summary: Best Rollins Book to Date Review: While I must admit I am not a big fan of James Rollins's I have read a couple of them in the past. Generally, I felt that his comcepts were better then his delivery. However, that ends with "Sand Storm" both the concept and the delivery were superb. If you are looking to "veg out" for a few hours you most certainly could do alot worse then "Sand Storm"
