Rating: Summary: Green Porche, Blue Tomcat and Silver Costanza Review: Being the first of the Jack Ryan series, Patriot Games was an overall good read. While on a vacation with his wife and daughter, Jack Ryan breaks up a terrorists attack at London, only to find out he had just saved the lives of the Prince and Princess of Wales. For some time, Jack is the media's center of attention. However, the proud hero soon finds out that he and his family are also a new target for the Ulster Liberation Army, a highly dangerous division of the IRA. The novel gives you both good guys and bad guys' perspective throughout the revenge plot. This is good because it doesn't just focus on Jack's repetitive life but the terrorists' professionalism and the FBI's search for the thugs. Unfortunately, at certain points when the FBI and CIA are discussing possibilities for the terrorists' motives, it can get confusingly frustrating. This can be a drag, but it is quickly compensated with humor and suspense. Patriot Games was my first Clancy novel, and it won't be the last.
Rating: Summary: Best-selling Author Strikes Again!!! Review: Best selling author Tom Clancy's third book, Patriot Games, is an excellent action/drama story. Jack Ryan, the main character, is on vacation in London with his wife, Cathy, and his daughter, Sally. Jack is meeting his wife and daughter, at an outside restaurant when a bomb goes off. Jack sees the Royal Family's limousine being attacked by terrorists. Jack takes out the terrorists and saves the Royal Family from death, and becomes a hero to London. There is action and suspense in Patriot Games, but you'll have to read the book to find out more. This book is definably NOT for younger readers. With over 25 F-words and 14 Sh- words, intense violence, sex, and gore, Patriot Games for mature teenagers and adults. But all in all, the book has very good detail, plot, and it is very easy reading. There are 540 pages.
Rating: Summary: Gripping, detailed, and insightful Review: Clancy again displays his attention to detail and extensive insight into government and terrorist matters in his entertainment novel, Patriot Games. The book has a gripping plot that keeps readers interested throughout the entire novel. If you have any interest in terrorists or anti-terrorist groups, then Patriot Games is a book that will grab your attention and keep it until you finish the book. Jack Ryan has a PhD in History and he teaches at a military college in Anapolis, Maryland. Dr. Ryan is a reoccuring character in many of Clancy's book and he is an ex-marine which serves him well when he encounters terrorists. Clancy's style is very detailed and to the point. The tone is serious but he adds some comical releif through clever things that his characters say. There are gun battles and action packed fight scenes that Clancy describes in detail that is seldom seen in novels. His use of comparisons in his writing is instrumental in the readers ability to imagine everything that is going on with little confusion or difficulty. Reading Patriot Games was like watching a movie except that it was much more exciting and the graphics were much more enjoyable. I would recommend this book to anyone that has a strong stomach and a love of action.
Rating: Summary: An Adventure for Anyone Review: Jack Ryan is a former Marine turned history teacher. He is in England with his family when ULA terrorists attack a car. Ryan remembers his training in an instant and disarms one terrorist before killing another. After Ryan recovers from his own injuries sustained in the battle, he learns that the people he saved were the Prince and Princess of England. This earns him hero status in England and everything seems to be fine until the terrorists turn their sights on him. The terrorists plan attacks on both Ryan and his family. Their first attack fails but nearly leaves Jack without a family. After this Jack vows to protect his family forever, by any means necessary. Patriot Games is filled with action and energy from the virst page to the last, from the first assassination attempt to the raid of the Ryans' house. Clancy builds an extreme amount of suspense in all of the battles, and leaves them about until the very end. The book is also very factual. Clancy uses many real places and people in the novel to give it an authentic effect. The book gives many accurate details as concerns customs, military procedures, and firearms. The book is very detailed as related to characters and scenes. Clancy uses vivid imagery when describing places and objects. He also uses allusions to relate chaarcters in the book to real people. Patriot Games is a book that can be enjoyed by anybody that likes to read action-packed, suspenseful stories. Because of the attention paid to detail relating to guns and the armed forces, this novel might be more fully appreciated by a person in the area of law enforcement or armed services.
Rating: Summary: Though long, the book is well worth the time. Review: Patriot Games by Tom Clancy If you're a fan of long, realistic, action filled novels, you'll love Patriot Games, but if you enjoy reading short books filled with pure action and suspense, don't even bother trying to read it, unless you are feeling adventurous. Patriot Games dives into the world of terrorism matched only by Rainbow Six. It starts with amazing action- a terrorist attack upon the Prince and Princess of England. John Ryan, the hero of Hunt for the Red October and Clear and Present Danger, is caught in the middle. He stops the attack and kills one of the attackers; but unknowingly, he has brought himself into the world of terrorism and the cubicles of the CIA. Clancy describes beautifully, as he always does. But then comes the part that can cause one to abandon the book: the huge number of pages that separates the action. However, if you have enough stamina and survive the dull parts, you soon get pulled back in as terrorist activity spreads for the first time into the United States. It is one of Clancy's finest, and is a thrill to read.
Rating: Summary: One Of Clancy's Greatest Books To Date!!!! Review: This book is Clancy at some of his best. The action starts in the first chapter. In the chapter, CIA anylast Jack Ryan witnesses a shooting while vacationing in London. Jack interveines and kills two of the shooters. One shoots him in the shoulder and escapes. Later Jack learnes he saved the Prince of Wales, his wife, and their new son. He also learns that the attack was done by one of the most dangerous and secretive Irish terrorist organizations, the Ulster Liberation Army or ULA. Soon, Ryan and his family become a target of international terrorism. This book was exciting! A page turner indeed. Besides a few dull filler chapters, every chapter is as exciting as the previous. The smaller sub-plots provide action in every page. A bit long when you first look at it, but it is truly a thriller. Clancy is the king of detial. The man could write a 1,000 page story on a trip to the grocery store and still keep you entertained. Not that I want him to write this though. An all around great book! "Two Thumbs Up!"
Rating: Summary: Must Read! Review: This book is excellent. I have read two other Clancy books before and this was my first plunge into the so-called Jack Ryan series. It absolutely confirmed my interest in this series. I recommend any reader interested in counter-terrorism and military action to read this work.
