Summary: Funny- 'Chic Lit' -Quick-read
Review: *I love author Meggin(Meg) Cabot and having read her Princess Diaries series, I thought I would try out something else by her. I read The Boy Next Door recently, while I was traveling and it is a great light, fun, quick-read that helps take the stress away. It is written in the form of e-mail(which gives it its fast pacing) and you get introduced to many characters through their e-mails (this gives the book a lot of dramatic irony because through the various e-mails you know certain important things that the charaters don't know).
*The Boy Next Door is the story of a young women, New York gossip columnist, Melissa Fuller. Her adventure starts when her elderly neighbor goes into a coma, as a result of being hit in the head and knocked-out in the living room of her apartment by an unknown person. When walking the neighbor's dog becomes too much for Melissa she sets of to find her neighbor's only family member, a bad-boy nephew-Max. Melissa contacts Max and he tells her he will come and take care of the dog. What Mel doesn't know is that he himself won't be coming, but instead a friend (John Trent)who owes him a favor. Of course Mel and John fall in love with in only problem being that Mel doesn't know who John is, thinking he is Max. This fact comes out and causes problems, but everything turns out okay as they work together to catch the person who left Mel neighbor in a coma.
*This book has an ordinary plot, one that's not really new or ground-breaking or anything. But the book is fun to read and entertaining, but predictable.
*Bottom Line-Read and enjoy, but don't accept anything too serious.

Summary: Great new style of writing a book.
Review: Finished this one in about 2 days. Great dialog and humor projected solely through email messages between work and family acquaintances. The love story worked well. HOWEVER there seemed to be a major problem with the plot. Why would Max choose John who he knew was a Criminal Reporter to fill in and impersonate him? Wouldn't John be the last person on earth Max should have chosen to help him out? Book never mentions why the police didn't bother to question or talk to John (the fake Max)while he was living in the Grandma's apartment.

There were times towards the end of the book when Mel, the lead character majorly got on my nerves. I started to root for her to get fired. Forty-nine tardies...please, what boss would put up with that? Also the emails between Mel and her parents were really boring. I ended up skipping those all together towards the end. Still I liked the book and would recommend reading it. Loved the humor and still found myself absorbed in the book.

Summary: A great book for ALL redheads
Review: First off not only did I love this book because the main chracter was a redhead, but because ity was one of the best love stories ever put together. The wuthor who has written the Princess Diaries series did one heck of a job on this one. The story written all in e-mails was one idea I was not so hot with when I first started. I thought confusion would occur but, it did not. I loved the idea and now feel that every book should be written that way. This book led me to like love stories more then I originally had, after this I found myself reading The Notebook(which is a great story go read it!). This book would be on my top 10 list everytime I write a new one.I love the humor the mystery of the murder that occured. I think it was really funny with the mix up of the two guys which being which. Since I plan to be a journalist this was also a great book because the main chracter was one too. Everyone who likes love stories and humor go out and get this book or borrow it cause you will NOT regret it ever!

Summary: You won't be able to put this book down!
Review: I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't put it down. It was belly-laugh funny. Mel is such a great leading lady. She is sweet and funny. Her relationship with her best friend, Nadine, will keep you smiling and laughing.

All of the characters in this book bring something to the table, and the e-mail format helps the book to be a quick read.

I have read many chic-lit novels, but I have to admit this is one of the best!

Summary: Loved it!
Review: I grabbed this book of the shelf at the library on a whim after the title caught my eye. I opened to the middle to find some emails and decided to give it a try. While I thought the emails were just additions to "regular" text, I soon discovered that the entire story is told by reading emails between friends, family, co-workers, etc. It took a few pages for me to get used to this style of writing, but I love it and now can't imagine the story being told in any other way!

Everyone else has written about the plot, so I'm going to avoid that and just say that this book was a great treat. I laughed out loud several times! The plot is interesting, the characters will surely remind you of someone you know, the twist is fun though predictable...you will not be disappointed! It's a fun read!

Summary: My all-time favorite book.

Summary: Entertaining Enough
Review: I read "Boy Meets Girl" before this one, so I enjoyed reading about the characters that reapper in "Boy Meets..." However, I still couldn't get past the fact that this was written in emails. I wish it had been written in novel form. Also, the story line is repeated in "Boy Meets Girl." It was entertaining enough, but not entertaining enough for a second read.

Summary: Laugh out loud funny - and romance with a capital "R"!
Review: I started reading this one while in the bathtub and I DID NOT get out until I'd gotten to the final page, even though I had to keep adding hot water to the tub when it grew tepid and my toes became so wrinkled that I could hardly bear to look at them when I finally stood up again.
This is a romance novel but it is also far more, suspenseful and funny as well. Basic plot - Young woman goes to check on her elderly neighbor, only to find her unconscious and bloody, face down on her floor. Young woman, having a heart of gold, steps in to take care of her neighbor's pets. Meanwhile, the neighbor's nephew, handsome but coldhearted, is off on a romantic fling and enlists the help of a buddy to take his place. This, of course, includes masquerading as the nephew.
Misunderstandings ensue, of course, along with romance....all under false pretenses (young woman knows nothing of the truth). The whole tale is told, charmingly, through a series of emails. I absolutely could NOT put down this book until the final delicious page.
Having said that, some of it is a bit predictable and a few stereotypes abound (brainless models, for instance). But, all in all, this is a fun read and far superior to most in the field. I confess I loved every single page of the book.

Summary: great beach reading
Review: Meg Cabot (of The Princess Diaries fame) delivers another boy-meets-girl story with her trademark light touch, peopled with an earnest neighbor from the Midwest, her sassy best friend, a celebrity photog, a supermodel, a Park Avenue family, and a troupe of wacky second-rate journalists, and a Great Dane.

This book is entirely in first-person due to the use of emails instead of diary entries. Surprisingly, it works. It's thoroughly enjoyable, a fast read, and something you can pick up again for a few laughs. Mel Fuller, our sweet and principled heroine, gets caught up in a New York moment when she discovers her 80-year-old, multimillionaire neighbor conked on the head. Assuming responsibilities for the woman's three pets, including Paco, the Great Dane, Mel's search for the next-of-kin leads her to Max Frielander, who may or may not be the biggest playboy of the Western hemisphere, but who charms Mel off her normally steady feet.

Enter John Trent, Max's college rommmate and a rival journalist. Emails fly between Mel and her best friend (and colleague) Nadine, John and his brother and sister-in-law, John and Max, the Human Resources Department and Mel (who is late more often than not), and of course, Mel and the Boy Next Door.

The email format works pretty well. It tells you enough while leaving details to your imagination. After all, isn't that what all good stories do? Being pretty attached to email myself, I found the email detail and frequency very believable. My only problem with the format was the presence of the author. Each of the characters wrote in slightly different styles, but you could definitely feel a common voice behind them. It made looking at the "To/From" necessary. Still, the characters themselves were very distinct ?it was just preferable when another character wrote about events, rather than the actual people involved.

The plot is slightly screwball, but adorable. If you liked The Princess Diaries (the book, not movie) or comedic romances (a la chick lit like Bridget Jones), this will hit the spot and leave you smiling.
