Summary: Two Words: Oy Vey
Review: (If you don't know exactly what the title actually translates into, it means "Oh pain"). Coulter had a good idea, I will have to give her that much. But she just didn't do anything with it. At least, not anything that would make for a good book. The hero is everything that a girl shouldn't want in a man: He keeps a mistress (I have no problem with rakes being the heroes in a book, but not when they have a mistress after marriage) and he actually hits the heroine. And aside from that, I can't see at all why the heroine supposedly loves him. His only saving grace is his looks and the fact that he saved her--not enough for this odd couple. And the ending left me totally confused. Whatever you do, DO NOT read this book.

Summary: The Offer
Review: I just fell in love with the cover as soon as I began to read. The Offer has been my favorite ever since. This is an ideal Regency Romance. Catherine, thank you for writing wonderful stories especially "Mad Jack".

Summary: typical, but I am left wondering...
Review: I liked the story, but it seems like characters appear out of nowhere, (like Richard Clarendon, and Charles) that leave me wondering if the book is part of a trilogy or series. There is a feeling like walking into a movie part way through. I do like the fact that Catherine Coulter does not summarize the other stories in a series like so many other author's do, ruining the story if you did not start at the beginning. By accident I bought the Wild Baron, and it appears to be a paralel of The Offer, connected through Phillips friend Rohan Carrington. I wish that the trilogy's or series were identified more clearly. I like to read a whole group at once, but can't if I don't know what the other books are called. The Offer had no reference to the Wild Baron on its cover. I must say though, that I am addicted, as predictable as these books are they keep you turning the pages into the wee hours.

Summary: Really silly...
Review: I've never read a romance book with such a silly storyline before. Phillip (the hero) supposedly "loves" Sabrina (the heroine) but he does really stupid things...e.g. like going to have sex with his mistress on his/Sabrina's wedding night! Also, what a typical male chauvenistic pig he is! And before you know it... Voila! He suddenly discovers that he loves his wife and pledges his total loyalty to her (and that includes his womanizing ways)! I think this book shouldn't be classified under "romance"... I'm sure the author could do better!

Summary: Repetition
Review: the book is superficial and has the same plot in the beginning as MAD JACK, another of her books

Summary: 'The Offer 'is a good old fashion love story!
Review: The Offer is a patterned after a good old fashion love story. Like many of Coulter's books, the characters are extremely 'British' in their wit, humor and their narrow minded personalities. The plot is entertaining and keeps the reader interested enough to want to know the outcome.

Lady Sabrina flees her sister and brother in law's home after a an attempted rape, to only fall prey to pnemonia (lung inflammation) while traveling during a snow storm. She is found unconscious and face down in a snow drift by Viscount Derencourt. Viscount Derencourt, aka Philip, nurses her back to health during the storm in a hunting lodge. They enjoy each other's company even though Philip knows Lady Sabrina is hiding her true identity. And of course the inevitable occurs; they are found together - and Lady Sabrina is a compromised woman with a tarnished reputation. Viscount Derencourt does not even receive a slap on the hand. She is banished and he is applauded. (Sounds like the Scarlet Letter). But alas, I shall not tell you more, read the book.

Coulter is slow moving for my particular taste, however, I did enjoy the tempo and characters of 'The Offer'.

Summary: Alright
Review: THis book had it's good moments and it really did have potential. Yet some parts were so confusting and the hero of the story seemed to changed once he wasn't alone in the cabin with her. Some loose ends are never tied up as well. If you just need a bit of very light reading this is your book just don't expect too much.

Summary: I'm glad I didn't live back in those days...
Review: This book was enjoyable but I wouldn't read it again. I felt bad for Sabrina for the way society was back in those days but it's just the way it was. Sabrina wasn't a typical women for that time period & she didn't want to put up with Philip having a mistress & was told by him that he would do as he pleased & that she would just have to deal with it. While reading this book I knew in my head what it was like in that day in age & didn't really let that get to me & give it a 1 star like many readers did. I didn't rate it higher then a 3 star because I wish the author would've been more descriptive & I didn't care for the ending. The last chapter was very boring to me & wasn't very relative to what had gone on in the book.
