Summary: Just awful
Review: This author is supposed to be a humorist, but there's not much funny here. The book is tedious and silly. Worse still, some may object to the caricatures in the book, where even criminal eco-terrorists are excused as long as they are acting for a good cause--like not littering on the highway. There's hardly a moment of doubt or criticism for this author. Corporations. Bad. Politicians. Evil. Development. Horrible. Only the noble lefty looney tunes are good--and that's even if they actually get other people killed. Homicide is apparently a positive left wing value. If you think Ralph Nader would be a good president, this is the book for you. Even then, you may have trouble with its simplistic plotting, cardboard caricature characters and 9th grade level prose style.

Summary: A Funny Read
Review: This by far is my favorite Hiaasen book! Its laugh out loud funny. The characters he creates are twisted and unimaginable but something about them is believable. Let's just say I'll never let a friend throw a cigarette out the window again!

Summary: Don't Litter or Twilly Will Come For You!
Review: This is an excellent thriller filled with tension, laughs and exceptional characters. I had never read a Carl Hiaasen novel before but will look for his other books after this sensational read. This novel is similar in style to a Dean Koontz thriller with a psychologically disturbed hitman, faithful dog, and likeable characters and you just can't put it down until the last page. Just buy it!

Twilly Spree inherited a lot of money and instead of investing it in his father's real estate development company spends his time defending mother nature from thoughtless slobs and environmental vandals. If he sees you throw a lit cigarette, aluminium can or other rubbish out of your car window he will come after and teach you a lesson. If you intentionally harm wildlife, he will intentionally harm you. One thoughtless slob named Palmer Stoat infuriates Twilly with his blatant disregard for the environment with rubbish constantly flying out his car window so Twilly decides to teach him a lesson. Stoat is a rather dim witted slow learner so Twilly decides to kidnap his dog until he mends his ways. Twilly quickly discovers that Palmer Stoat is a corrupt politician who will destroy the ecosystem and all the inhabitants of Toad Island in return for developer's money. He must stop this at all costs but politicians, evil Barbie obsessed developers and their deranged hit men will go to any lengths to develop Toad Island.

Summary: Woof, woof
Review: This, like all of Hiassen's books is one hilarious romp. And I've read the all! In "Sick Puppy" Hiassen introduces us too Willy Spree, who is like a Skink Jr. On a highway Spree sees a literbug and decides he will teach this literbug a lesson. The literbug is Palmer Stoat a corrupt lobbyist who is the middle of getting the Shearwater Island Resort throught the capitol. After a few hilarous pranks, Spree finds out about the resort and is determined to stop the resort and save the small island from the bulldozer. He ends up dognapping Stoat's dog, a lovable black lab named Boodle. If you own a Lab, or are owned by one, you will appreciate this book. Yes, the premise is absurd, delightfully so. If you are in the mood for an easy read - and a funny read - this is a nice little book to spend some time with. With it's usual "over the top" writing (we actually like this), you'll be in for a treat. Also, try THE BARK OF THE DOGWOOD (another dog-influenced book) for a great tough sometimes disturbing time!
