Rating: Summary: a latter day "I Claudius" Review: Chilling. The more of this book I read, the more I wanted to know. Saddam has already cemented himself a permanent place in history alongside other despots such as Pol Pot, Lenin, Stalin, and Idi Amin. Uday Saddam Hussein, the elder son, was apparently determined to exceed his father's proclivity toward torture and summary executions when he [presumably] succeeded Dear Old Dad. This is the tale of Uday's "double" and his life before, during, and after his role as a decoy for Iraq's hated tyrant-in-waiting.If you opposed the Iraqi invasion on political grounds, this may change your mind.

Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK FROM IRAQ Review: Having read different titles about Saddam and his regime, especially after 11/09/01 I have found this book "ICH WAR SADDAMS SOHN" to have painted the most acurate and discriptive picture of life in the Saddam Clan. It offered a look into the everyday workings of the Iraqi Tyrant and of course his notorious son. From the start, you are under no illusion of the lengths that were taken to ensure the "family's" safety not to mention the unbridled brutality that Uday Saddam Hussein is notorious for. An interesting fact is that Uday was always a callous and sadistic person, he did not develop his penchant for torture overnight, it was a culmination of bad deeds over the years that brought his true disregard for human life and dignity to the fore. As his behaviour went unchecked his passion for brutality grew. Having seen the author Dr. Latif Yahia on BBC Channel's Breakfast with Frost on Sunday 15/06/03, I have had to ask myself why this man was not asked to share his knowledge of the Iraqi Regime, surely it would have been of benefit to the Government and possibly they would not have ended in the quagmire that they are in now. I thoroughly enjoyed this book on several levels and await a sequel, I'm sure the story doesn't just end at the authors flight from Iraq.

Rating: Summary: believe him - I did and now I'm married to him Review: I am the wife of the author of I Was Saddam's Son and believe me when I tell you that everything you have read is the truth. I have seen photographs and documents and scars to prove this. Latif did not tell me who he was when we married and I only found out when I saw a repeat of an interview of him on CBS 60 Minutes. His story is even more fascinating when told from the mouth and I have read this book over and over. Even I was fascinated and horrified of the cruelty meted out by the mosted hated man in Iraq, Oday Saddam Hussien.
Rating: Summary: A disturbing insight into the most evil family in the world Review: I found this "story" one of the most interesting but also disurbing tales I have ever read. It gives a very interesting insight into the life of a body double in probably the most dangerous place on earth but also gives details into the mind of one of the most power crazy but yet curiously insecure men alive, Sadam Hussein. It make the reader feel quite nervous due to the fact that the events are actually true. Brilliantly written. A must for any biography fan.
Rating: Summary: Interesting and Educational Review: I thought that this book helped me get a better understanding of past and recent events. I have no clue as to the validity, a point that was raised in another review, but it does provide many details and gives a lot more information about this family than we will ever get from the news.

Rating: Summary: a latter day "I Claudius" Review: In America, celebrity look-alikes can make money by running interference for the stars. But what if at any time, your look-alike could have you tortured or put to death? That is the plight this author found himself in when he was chosen to serve as Uday Hussein's double. Uday, who aspires to be an even more feared leader than his father Saddam, is (was) not exactly a paragon of mental health. Picture living under the same roof with an adult with the hormones of a teen and the temper of a toddler, whose every whim was granted, and you will get some idea of what this author's life was like. Actually, as a double, he was given fairly little to do but took meticulous notes on what it was like to have an up close and too personal look at Uday's reign of terror. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Loved This Tabloid Tell All Review: It's a guilty pleasure. You can't put it down. Written in a tabloid journalistic style. Very interesting and true. It is about the "trauma and shock" this guy goes through because he happens to resemble Saddam's son and is coerced into playing the part. He saw a bird's eye view of this unspeakably evil psychopath dictator and his son's lifestyle, or deathstyle. He goes from perks and pleasure to torture, is reeling between the two and can't escape. Gives a real feel to what life is like in this kind of dictatorship hell. A psychological thriller and lesson for all.
