Summary: The man is so right!
Review: Anyone who could read George Dawson's story and not find it moving, entertaining, and inspiring, has missed the point!

George Dawson is an interesting man. He overcame great adversity and beat the odds. Never mind what was left out of the story, what is important is what was left in! And the story is told with craftsmanship and a gentle, quiet dignity which reveals George's mind and spirit in such a way that the reader cannot help to feel that they are getting to know him in some way.

The book is both an insight into the life of a remarkable man, and also an authentic glimpse into what life was like in the United States during the earlier part of the twentieth century. The descriptions are so vivid that it is almost as good as if we had a time machine. Mr. Dawson's memory of the time is as clear as a bell, and his descriptions are faithfully reported.

This books contains all the elements: Humor, sorrow, joy, despair. It is an absolute "must have", and a place should be reserved for it on everyone's book shelf.

Summary: Life is So Good
Review: This is one of the best books I've ever read. We can all learn a lesson from Mr. Dawson. He took the good things from life and moved ahead, not hanging onto negative things that had happened. Our world would be a much better place if all people could do this. One reason I especially enjoyed reading the book was because it was written in "his" words from that time many years ago. I almost felt as though I was there. The writer did an excellent job penning this life story. I highly recommend.

Review: You may remember George Dawson when he appeared on Oprah Winfrey's TV show. After reading his book, you will remember him every day of your life. There is a lesson in every chapter as he takes you through every decade of his life. This man from humble beginnings who didn't learn to read till he was nearly 100 years old will surely change your outlook on the life you have been given. The title of Mr. Dawson's book just about sums up his philosophy. He will make you laugh & cry & smile... you'll want to hug him when you get to the last page.

Summary: Beautifully written
Review: When I first saw this book, I wondered what would be so special about the life of George Dawson? He's 101 years old. So?

This book is SOoo beautifully written. The life of Mr. Dawson has very rich experiences and journeys. I liked the stories, the dialogs, the characters, and most of all how he compare and mix the past days with the present.

There are so many jewels buried in this book. It is a must have book.

I recommend it to everyone.

Enjoy :)

Summary: Loved every word of it!
Review: Way to go, George! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, written in George's own words, yet expertly put together by Richard Glaubman's new-found talent. The book gave me a wonderful sense of peace and happiness and even some great advice to pass down to my own children.

Summary: Editorial Review Sampler nationwide
Review: From The Washington Post: "Life Is So Good" is about character, soul and spirit and the positive attitude reflected in the book's title... Spoken in his own words, he bears witness. His observations are no less powerful because they are presented with understatement and without anger or hostility. The pride in standing his ground is matched--maybe even exceeded--by the accomplishments of his hard-won education... He is more teacher than student throughout."

From USA TODAY: "At 102, learning and living a good life...Dawson has become a literacy hero, a testament to the power of perseverance."

From Christian Science Monitor: "A story like this only comes around every 100 years.Having walked in three centuries now, Dawson is a living Time-Life series on American History, but he knows there's still more to learn...Dawson's kind and witty attitude is perhaps as valuable as his record of American history..."

From Los Angeles Times: "Memoirist's zesty joie de vivre remains undiminished at 102... There's no mistaking that his common sense and common decency have helped Dawson lead an exceptionally good as well as long life."

From Seattle Post-Intelligencer: "Teacher is taught by an old man -and the rest, a book, is history... Powerful and important story of a life, and an honored one."

From Publisher's Weekly: "An astonishing and unforgettable memoir."

From Library Journal: "A memoir that stands apart from all other end-of-century texts and from the history generally recorded in textbooks... It is essential to an accurate understanding of this century... Dawson's positive philosophy sustained him to a ripe old age... Written in simple conversational style, this volume is an invaluable edition."

From Dallas Morning News: "George Dawson got started late on his letters, but look at him now."

Summary: Beyond Inspirational!
Review: I bought this book after reading all the reviews, and they were not off the mark. It was inspirational and moving--with plenty of funny parts and plenty of sad parts. And it just skimmed the surface of George's life! I am sure that there is so much more he could tell us about being thankful for the small things in our lives that we so often forget about. One part that touched me was his relationship with Blue, his mule and how he always regretted loosing his patience; another was how he travelled thoughout the country and to Canada and Mexico. It makes me wish we were still able to travel like that today--and that we would meet such friendly and helpful people along the way. It leaves you with a good feeling by the time your are finished, you want to read more!

Summary: What ever happened to Pete's baseball?
Review: I'm lucky if I read one book per year. I was visiting my sister in sunny Santa Cruz California from the rainy northwest. She handed it to me and I missed a day of wonderful sunshine. I would have missed a week! . From now on when things don't seem to be going so well, I'll try to remember George Dawson and his spirit for life. I believe he's probably the richest man I know! I bought two copy's and gave them to close friends of mine. The only question I have is, What happened to Pete's baseball?

Summary: Very inspiring
Review: I have to admit...my first impression while reading this book was..."What's the plot?" But then I realized that there is no plot. It is just a true story about the life and adventures of one person. While the authors tried to give this story a begining, a middle and an end...in essence, this book is very much like going to visit your grandfather and having him recollect all of the things that happened in his past. It is not the plot that makes this book compelling...it is the collection of experiences. The journey that Mr. Dawson took in his early years that opens a memory bank of what life was like during a time when I wasn't even born. Mr. Dawsons added wit and ability to tell a story, helps bring these pages to life. In the end you not only have a great appreciation for the past, but you also develop a deep affection for what life is like today (inspite of all the bad things). It is a true encouragement for a person to maintain their optimism.
