Rating: Summary: Compelling read Review: Jim Bakker gives a compelling account of the events surrounding his notorious 'fall from grace' in the 1980s. He is entitled to be heard, and for the most part we can agree with him when he exposes the unfairness of the treatment he received at the hands of the media and the courts, as well as when he confesses, 'I was wrong.' He bravely recants on the prosperity doctrine he used to teach and provides an enlightening account of the process by which the Lord revealed to him the error he had fallen prey to.Perhaps the one area in which I would urge caution, however, is in the personal accusations he makes at the others involved in the PTL scandal. He alleges a number of things about other Christian leaders, as well as those closest to him, such as his ex-wife Tammy Faye. He may or may not be right, but let's remember he is just telling one side of the story. I wonder whether he was wise in putting some of these things into print.
Rating: Summary: Jim Bakker was wrong but was right to admit it. Review: This is an excellent book. It charts the rise and fall of Jim & Tammy Bakker and their dream Heritage USA. Jim was an avid proponent of Word of Faith & Propserity teachings, and now has come to realise that what was taught as Biblical Prosperity & faith really wasn't. The book tells of Jim Bakkers humble beginnings to heading probably the biggest Christian Television Ministry. Then the crisis hit. Jim went to prison where he began to reflect on his life and ministry. God was changing him. The change was hard and painful but fruit came forth. Jim Bakker was a changed man and admitted he was wrong. One moving incident recorded in the book was when his son came to visit him and remarked that it was the first time in years that he got to spend a day with his dad. This book gives a glimpse into life in an American prison. In reading this book one can't help feeling Bakker's sentence was somewhat harsh. Nevertheless God works all things together for good. Read this book.
