Summary: An accurate portrayal of the city
Review: This book is a snapshot of this once great industrial city. It follows the city's history from its beginning as a booming factory town to its recent decay. Other books about the history of Rockford tend to ignore parts we wish we could forget- the east-west segregation, the organized crime of the '20s, the drug- and gang-related violence of the '90s, and the death of downtown. This book includes such topics. It also includes great photos of old Rockford. One of America's great manufacturing cities is dying, but it is wonderfully captured in this book.
