Summary: Brilliant Commentary
Review: 'The Hunting of the President' is the candle that finally sheds light in the basement of White House machinations. Joe Conason and Gene Lyons have cited credible sources and their writing is both perceptive and objective. The authors' clear prose is both elegant and economical, as this brief passage on page 92 demonstrates; 'Bill looked at Hillary. Hillary looked at Bill. Al Gore looked at Hillary. Hillary looked at Tipper Gore. Tipper looked at Monica. Monica lit a cigar. Al smiled. Hillary lit a cigar. Al grinned. Tipper lit a cigar. Al lit a cigar. Oblivious to the showering sprinklers just triggered by the smoke, Bill lit two cigars. Cuba never had it so good.'

The authors also have the ability to make minor details major insights. On page 115, they quote the conversation between Bill and Hillary straight after Bill had recanted his innocence on national television; 'Bill was relieved. "I should have done that a long time ago," he said. "Honeyhips, the guilt's lifted. I feel like a new man." Placing a reassuring hand on Bill's Viagra tablets, Hillary nodded and replied, "I know what you mean, Studster. I feel like a new man too. Now where did I put Ozzie Osbourne's phone number?"'

The portrayal of Monica Lewinsky is accurate without being judgemental. On page 46, the authors write, 'Monica was the lamb in the flock of interns. White-souled and vulnerable, she finally surrendered to the wolf-wild blandishments of the older man. Bill knew her weak point; her soft spot. Boy, did he know her soft spot!'

This remarkable book leaves no question unanswered, and we at last learn the truth about the infamous role played by Teddy Kennedy in disguising Monica as the Iranian Ambassador in order to facilitate her late-night visits to the presidential 'playroom'.

As the authors state in the book's final line, 'Bill and Hillary thought they had close support from among the various committee members, but with friends like that, who needs enemas'.

This is a story that had to be told.

Summary: The Subverting of Democracy
Review: Thank you Mr. Conason and Mr. Lyons for writing this book. There is no way the people who gave this book one-star even bothered to pick it up, much less read it. The authors source extremely well and name names. A little too much fact perhaps? We will never know how much damage the Clinton-haters perpetrated but we will living with the consequences for decades.

Summary: for those interested in the truth
Review: During the time of Clinton's campaign for presidency and the following years of his occupancy of the White House, we kept getting all these sordid stories and their innuendos, so much that anyone with an iota of common sense, knew that they were exaggerations. I wanted to know how the media, which, we as a people have trusted for years to give us true, factual, non-partisan facts, had all of a sudden turned into tabloid reporting. Not only did they pick at every little non-important private detail of President Clinton and his family, which had no relevance to his job as the president, it would completely ignore more important actions against our people by the other party. So I bought this book, not because I believed the lies about Clinton, but because I wanted to know how the inhumane treatment came about and who all were responsible. When you get through with this book, it will make you a little sick to realize that the people have been duped by greed, poor sports, immoral people. Common decency has no part in the lives of these people. Women came out the woodworks to make money for themselves through political pimps, the abuse of the legal system is downright scary for those of us who have believed in its righteousness, there was no sense of decency by his political opponents. They couldn't attack his policies because it is awfully hard to attack someone who is obviously trying to help the people and this country. Do they say, "we need to tax the poor and middle-class more and let the rich off", and do they say, "we don't want to balance the budget", do they say "we don't want to protect the money for social security", do they say "we want to use the tax-payers money to make more money for ourselves"? That won't do it, so they go after his private life, even though a good portion of those same people committed the same or worse immoral offenses. This book shows up many of these people for the corrupt people that they are- the journalists who forget that they are supposed to report facts in their efforts to gain fame, the politicians, women who want to make money with their lies, wealthy right wingers, judicial people, etc. Everyone should read this book and others like it. I have read several books and then compared them and they all came up with the same story and I haven't heard of any legal actions, which, in itself, says it all. The people of this country, Democrats, Republicans, and others, have all been lied to and are still being lied to. This book just shows you that you can't believe everything you hear, that you need to look deeper.

Summary: Vast Right Wing Conspiracy
Review: Despite the unfortunate fact that Clinton did in fact have something inappropriate with Monica, it remains that all the millions of dollars spent investigating him came up with nothing. There was a vast, right wing conspiracy, and this book demonstrates how wide spread and how thin or non-existent the evidence was suggesting anything actual wrong-doing by the Clintons.

And the negative reviewer on page one is misleading in his review. The authors don't focus on rich white guys. The primary mudslingers in Arkansas were not rich at all, although they wanted to be. It's almost like he didn't read the book.

Summary: True, and very scary!
Review: I don't agree with everything the authors say here, but it would take someone who lived on a desert island for the 8 years of the Clinton administration, not to recognize how on the mark most of it is. The right still poo poos the theory of a "vast right wing conspiracy" but the evidence is irrefutable, and it continues with the constant restating of the myth of a liberal media, when here too the evidence is contradictory.

When the special counsel couldn't find a single law either President Clinton or his wife broke, and couldn't coerce witnesses to lie, they came up with a plan even the dumbest lawyer would know could work. It was simple: Get the President under oath, and then ask him about the one thing that virtually every man and woman woulds likely lie about if it was too personal - sex. Then charge perjury, beat it like a dead horse, manipulate the Constitution and Congress and offer up an impeachment sham of a proceeding that was never meant to work, but that would stay in the headlines ad nauseum. Then have every radio wacho on Clear Channel (the network that bans liberal points of view) proclaim how evil liberals are, and beat that like a dead horse too. The truth to the right wing is not only irrelevant, it is not to be spoken, under any circumstances.

It didn't work - but it did too - because it allowed the Republicans to steal the 2000 election, install a puppet president and sit back and ride the gravy train as long as possible, at all costs, and why: Because payback is a b--, well you know.

Limbaugh and his dirty minded ilk started denegrating Bill Clinton even before he took office, promoted every accusation as gospel, and ignored all the good his administration did. After all, with their candidate they could unravel it all and then blame Bill Clinton - even though he's not in office - the democrats, even though they control neither house of congress - and Hillary Clinton because they have more lies and venom to spread than they can control.

Of course no conservatives will read this because it is too close to the truth, and like I said, the truth is the last thing the conservatives want - they are more interested in the prurient lives of anyone who has a better idea.

Summary: The Hunting of the President: The Ten-Year Campaign to Dest
Review: The authors assume that only rich, and republican national leadership tried to destroy Bill Clinton. There were some democarts that felt extremely ill of Clinton and they were not segregationist. I personally felt digust when he was nominated as a presidential canidate. The governor he replaced had placed the state above thirty-five rating of states in employment, eduction, lack of poverty, income per capita, state economicial growth. When Bill Clinton ran for the presidency, Arkansas was 47th a below in all these catagories. People let him off when brushed this question off look what I had to work with. He had a lot more than he left. It is a crime that this man became the leader of this country which he failed at also in my viewpoint.

Summary: This is what "Slander" wishes it could be
Review: Conason and Lyons examine, in minute and well-documented detail, the origins of the attacks on Bill Clinton and the men and women behind the theater of the absurd that it became.

A point-by-point refutation of the tall tales and outright lies that became accepted as truth, this book tells the real tale behind the character assasination funded mainly by conservative publisher Richard Melon Scaife.

Scaife spent millions and millions of dollars trying to find even the smallest bit of dirt on Clinton. His outlets spewed invective based on the outrageous statements of women out to ride the Clinton-bashing train to fiscal security, despite the fact that investigation showed every accusation to be baseless, absurd and provably false.

It also demonstrates how lax the media has become (and I say this as a former newspaper reporter). Gone are the days when Woodward and Bernstein tracked down even the smallest leads, searching for the key to Watergate. Today, reporters are satisfied to reprint press releases without verifying the substance. Editors are little more than chair-bound spell-checkers. Publishers are merely mouthpieces for multinational conglomerates out to further their own interests.

Hopefully, history will remember the 'Clinton Miracle' of eight years of unprecendented peace, prosperity and success rather than his single documented transgression.

Summary: Compelling, factual, and long overdue
Review: When you consider how the events against the President played out, it is maddening.

This book isn't about the Clinton's, per se; instead it is about the many bitter and criminal elements that fired the lies and near-treason attacks against a President.

A must read for moderate and democrats. Republican right should read this book too. Not only read it but analyze the facts and then try to determine if the over zealous groups are really what the republicans wished to stand for.

I was absolutely glued to this book. With every chapter I marveled at how little I knew about what the facts surround the Clinton's were. Absolutely astonishing.

Summary: Makes Konservatives Mad!
Review: I noticed a few right-wing pundits gave less-than flattering reviews of this book...no surprise. I also noticed that they obviously did not read this book...again, no surprise: just read "Calloway's" review...typical right-wing slander that is so 'unoriginal'. When comparing Clinton's "lies" to the real crimes comitted by the Republicans (George Bush Jr. and Sr, Jeb Bush, Richard Perle, John Ponidexter, Elliot Abrams, John Negroponte, Oliver North, Newt Gingrich, Paul Wolfowitz...and so on), it is no wonder the right spends vast amonts of money buying-up talk radio stations and funding the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, and Ann Coulter to spread misinformation, rumors, gossip, and right-wing propaganda. Is'nt that right "Kalloway"?

Summary: HOW DID THEY SURVIVE BEFORE BILL 'N HILL???
Review: Joe Conason is a major Democrat operative. Gene Lyons is an editor for the Arkansas Democrat newspaper (note it is not the Arkansas Republican). Therefore this book must be approached with maximum suspicion. Mr. Lyons seems to have built a lucrative cottage industry around the Klintons. He has written numerous articles and at least one other book extolling their dubious virtues and chastising anyone who opposes them. One wonders what he did with his life BTK (before the Klintons). The melodrama of the title had me in stitches. They were apparently trying, unsuccessfully, to evoke the substance and mystery of Woodward & Bernstein's All The President's Men. The book itself is disturbing as it details various attempts by the dark forces to bring down the saintly Klintons. Of course Bill 'n Hill's dark side is virtually ignored so as to perpetuate the vendetta theory. One is left wondering why, after ten years of concerted "right wing conspiracy", the Klinton's are still wandering the landscape richer than ever and in seemingly vibrant health.
