Rating: Summary: WOW!! Review: Child Bride unlocks all the qustions that needed to be answered. The Beauleiu family all had deep dark skeletons in their closets, as did Priscilla. I feel she did care for Elvis, but was more concerned for her own welfare and fame, and she did everything necessary to achieve it. Thi book goes into great lengths to uncover the truth about Priscilla's virginity, It doesn't really matter, does it.?? The fact remains that she did indeed marry Elvis Presley, and got everything she ever wanted and more. Its a great shame that she took advantage of Elvis. This man gave her everything she ever wanted. In contrary they were both no angels, but Elvis was a kind and generous person. Its too bad that she turned out to be the kind of person that would mock him in the end..If you are an Elvis or Priscilla fan this is a must read.
Rating: Summary: Secrets of Scientology Revealed Review: First of all, it's been awhile since I read this book, and second of all, I'm not a diehard Elvis fan, or even much of a fan of his at all, because I think it was pretty kinky of a grown man to bring a teenage girl to live with him. The only reason he got away with it was because he was Elvis. I can see by all the one star reviews that there are fans that will never believe Elvis did a wrong thing in his life, and seem to want to project THEIR feelings about wishing Elvis had married THEM and not Priscilla, onto the author.
I found the book to be well-written and well researched. I never heard of Priscilla winning any lawsuit against it, so obviously there is some truth to be had here. And it does seem the most probable story - that Priscilla was not an innocent virgin, that she didn't want to come to live with Elvis, but her mother wanted to get rid of her, and her step-father was most likely molesting her. I just remember when Priscilla was on a Barbara Walters special and Ms. Walters asked her why her parents would ever allow her to go live with Elvis, she hesitated, then replied, "I was in love". But she didn't seem sincere or happy in her reply, as if she wished her parents HADN'T allowed her to move in with him. I mean, what normal parents are going to let their 14 or 15 year old daughter go live with an adult man, a pop star, really believing that nothing will happen? Come on now.
I especially found the revelations regarding Scientology enlightening. Now I don't have to wonder about that anymore.
If you have any curiosity about Priscilla's and Elvis's relationship, I recommend this book as it's chock full of interesting (if a bit depressing) info.
Rating: Summary: Lifetime Elvis Fan finally understands.... Review: Growing up in the 70's, I was always questioned WHY do you like ELVIS PRESLEY? When I was 19 & gave birth to my only child, I even named her "PRISCILLA."Elvis has always impressed me as someone with "God given talent" with a voice No One has ever matched! Then when I saw the "beautiful" wife he married, I knew THEY were PERFECT for each other. I have read her book & seen the movie, "Elvis & Me." I remained the Elvis fan, but my sympathy went to Priscilla with questions about the parents' inability to HELP protect Priscilla. Why would they allow their teenage daughter to "live with" anyone--in the 60's? No matter how "mature" she may be??But Suzanne Finstad's book, CHILD BRIDE, finally answers ALL the unanswered questions. The research she has put in this book IS extensive! A MUST for any Elvis fan. God knows Elvis was no saint but neither was he the BAD guy. Priscilla did have a very secretive childhood & you can easily see how she became the strong & independant person she is, but she was given a Gift, too, her breathtaking beauty. She is a survivor & has done well with her life in spite of the odds that were against her!!BUT Elvis will be dead "24" years this Aug. 16, 2001, so Priscilla PLEASE show EVERYONE you are NOT a liar anymore! DROP his surname, PRESLEY, & let Lisa Marie be the ONLY one that continues to share PRESLEY with HER famous father, ELVIS....MAY HE "FINALLY" REST IN "PEACE"............................
Rating: Summary: Priscilla is not worthy. Review: I believed the fairy tale when I was young and stupid and read "Elvis and Me." But I was always able to tell that a lot of the truth was missing and something wasn't right..
Priscilla, when are you going to give up on this charade? You are 60 years old. When are you going to grow up and tell the truth? The truth will set you free.
You laughed at Elvis and made fun of him behind his back.. The day he died, and you were on the plane to Graceland, you told the stewardess to "wake you up an hour before you arrived so you could freshen up your makeup." You didn't shed a tear at his funeral, in fact, you were upstairs laughing and giggling with your sister... You're nothing but a self-obsessed woman, cold and almost scary. You care more about your looks than you ever did about Elvis.. you just used him, you forced his hand in marriage and you became the Queen.
We all know the truth Priscilla, so just give it up. You're not fooling anyone except the weak minded who still believe that fairy tales exist. It's time to grow up. The Presley marriage was no fairy tale, it was a nightmare, and you are ultimately responsible for Elvis' death.
Rating: Summary: The Price of Fame Review: I don't usually read this kind of book - (the last biography I read before this was of Darwin), but for many of my generation Elvis came on the scene as we were entering pubescence, and represented the sentiments we felt in his songs. There was something remarkable about him - the "good ole boy" honesty as it seemed to us. His downfall and death shook many old fans who had left him behind for a time. Now, we revisit the wonder of who he was, for better and for worse - the tragedy of his short life. This book brings the reader to see Elvis through this significant aspect of his life. Without Elvis, there would not have been a Priscilla Presley. I think the author tried to present a fair perspective, and took a journalistic approach to the writing her book. What is the truth? - who can say - in some aspects it is a matter of perspective, and in others, the guy Currie who introduced her to Elvis, for example, simply bad bad manners because there is a certain aspect of privacy that people deserve of intimate relationships. Who could blame Priscilla for suing about that aspect of the book. It was a very very ugly part of the book. The book certainly has drawn reaction. One thinks - too bad Elvis didn't marry Ann Margret .... Not in any bad vibes of Priscilla, because she is some smart lady, and I think did well by any measure for Lisa, but because Ann Margret is some classy lady and she stood by her man Roger Smith, through sickness and good times, as he did for her. Wishful thinking.. Elvis' fame gave him a tremendous power, and that power prevented anyone from saving him. Who could blame Priscilla for leaving him? Child Bride is a good read through - once, for those who have a deep feeling of who Elvis was. He was a unique man. He died too young. His music lives on.. cliche, but oh, so true...
Rating: Summary: Poor little Priscilla? I think not! Review: I read "Child Bride-The Untold Story of Priscilla Beaulieu Presley" by Suzanne Finslad and I can easily say that the public image of Priscilla Presley has been shattered. This is one woman who is NOT as innocent as she has portrayed herself all these years . This book was well researched by the author and gave me a look at a woman who basically took one of the greatest talents of all time, Elvis Presley, used him for his fame and wealth, turned her back on him, and profited after his death. In the book her brother-in-law considers it "totally unfair" that she is characterized as a "bad person". I, however, consider that description pretty accurate after reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Not for the myth-seeking deluded fan Review: Mrs. Finstad has certainly stepped on the toes of those who choose to believe in the beautiful - and untrue - myth of Elvis and Priscilla.
For the 15-year-old new Elvis fan, for those who take Priscilla Presley's words at face value without ever questioning her reasons, and for those who would never bother to wonder who would have more of a reason to lie - Priscilla or her classmates from 40 or 50 years ago, who have nothing to lose or gain by telling their side of the story,well...these people should NOT buy this book.
For those of us who happen to be realistic and critical of people's "recollections" and who are also ELVIS fans, this is a must-read book.
Read with focused attention, wonder if the author makes sense, if the book is well-researched, read the report of SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE, a computerized voice stress test(a lot more reliable than a polygraph), which stated that during an interview by the author in which Priscilla was asked several questions posed in the book, PRESLEY WAS FOUND TO BE LYING ALMOST 100% OF THE TIME. The only statement that was true on Priscilla's part was that Currie had introduced himself, jokingly, as Johnny Appleseed. Everything else was a lie.
That is just one tiny piece of evidence among sooo many throughout the book.
Another one is a compilation of 1961 pictures that shows Currie Grant - who according to Priscilla had been banned by Elvis in Germany after he had tried to "rape" her in 1959 - taking pictures of Priscilla and her mother to be sent to Elvis back in the States....OH,I SEE...So Grant tried to rape her and 2 years later they were all smiling, happily together, in pictures to be sent to a rage-filled Elvis who had banned bad bad Currie for trying to hurt his little girl.... :)
As previously mentioned, the above comments only state very little of what is shown in the book. There are literally countless interviews, with people who do not have a public life and do not run their ex-husbands' estates....These people, like Currie Grant, do not make millions a year and cannot afford the legal apparatus that Priscilla can, hence his conviction when Priscilla sued him for his claims that they had sex. Note that Priscilla didn't sue Suzanne Finstad.... I wonder why!!
I have read this book many times and I can see how the fans clinging to the dream of Elvis and Priscilla cannot be objective about it and need to search for ulterior motives on the part of the author and the testimonies in the book.....But people, WAKE UP...Priscilla Presley has been lying through her teeth for decades and at least some of us - those with brains - should be aware of it!!!!
Buy this book if you want the truth about Elvis' ex-wife.
Rating: Summary: Child Bride - The truthful side Review: People are so wrapped in the myth of Elvis and Priscilla, that when anything comes along to refute that, people get very upset. Because from reading some of these reviews, this book was something that diehards didn't want to read about, because they are so used to hearing the usual spin from Priscilla, which they take as the gospel.People tend to be gulliable when it comes to celebs and believe everything they say. Because if you go back and read her book and then Suzanne's, the inconsistences are very obvious. Plus Priscilla did say she learned PR from the best Colonel Parker and Elvis. Celebs create lies about themselves all of the time, Priscilla is no diffrent. Some reviews have said that the ex's and the entourage have a ax to grind. But what about her childhood friends, I doubt they had a ax to grind. And you can pretty much tell from reading their stories, which were very well collaborated, that they were telling the truth. Priscilla always had it in mind to meet Elvis, and she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night. Priscilla had a active (...) life when Elvis was gone. And her parents, seeing Elvis as the big mealticket, sent her back to the States because she was getting to wrapped up in Jamie Lindberg. Even though they were eventually going to follow soon after. And it was a eye-opener that her parents had a diffrent set of rules for her other boyfriends but when it came to Elvis, anything went. Sometimes Priscilla came home as late as after midnight, and her parents really didn't put a stop to that. And lets not get started on the fact that Elvis was a grown man and Priscilla was still a child, which gets glossed over because Elvis such a legend now. Honestly, how many parents would knowingly let their daughter go over to a adult man's house, let alone live with him. Not many but i know alot would, if the guy was a big celebrity.. Currie Grant's story i believe 100% because he readily admits his wrongs, the fact that he wasn't perfect in the whole situation. And i found it funny that Priscilla sued him and no one else, probably because he was the easiest target because he was shut out of Elvis's world. Plus Priscilla has made enough money off of Elvis's name to pay lawyers for years. And the interviews with her friends at the time about the Eve comparisons are good, because i believe that Priscilla is a very calculating and intelligent person, discarding those she has no more use for, after she learned all she can from them. Joe Esposito, who numerous people have said is a very nice guy and Rick Stanley, i found to be very truthful to and thought they had alot of good insight. In regards to Ann-Margaret, who i believe was the love of Elvis's life and Priscilla and Lisa. I read this book in a objective frame of mind and i came away from it thinking that this is in the top 5 of books of anything Presely related. Suzanne Finstad did a very good job writing this book, very well researched.
Rating: Summary: Great Book on Priscilla & Elvis! Review: Suzanne Finslad has certainly done her homework on this one. I found the book to be very interesting and well researched. For those Elvis fans who are interested in the Elvis/Priscilla love story, I would suggest this book. I do think it is a shame that Elvis and Priscilla split for they must have loved one another deeply. And considering the fact that she never re-married, one gets the idea that she still loves Elvis - and why wouldn't she?
Rating: Summary: bad Review: This book is tabloid fodder. Don't read it. It contradicts itself and is terrible all the way around.
