Rating: Summary: Great Dog, Great Book! Review: Here is a tribute to one of God's gifts to mankind, a pet dog. But more than just a tribute to the author's childhood pet and companion, this is an outstanding memoir of the time and place of his youth. The stories of the author's youthful adventures with Skip will take all dog lovers back in time to their own recollections of that special dog of their childhood. Much better than the movie which was feminized and Politically Corrected by the screenwriter to the point of boring predictability. This book will sting your heart. Sadly, the author died shortly after the movie was filmed. But at his reunion with Skip, he could brag that he wrote one hell of a tribute to him. Get this one.

Rating: Summary: Boring, unbelievable, and storyless Review: I have no idea why this book is so well reviewed. I grew up with dogs so beloved that they were considered "family" so I expected to like this book. Unfortunately, the anecdotes are not believable, not funny, not heartwarming, generally have no ending or even any point. Worse, there is nothing that ties the vignettes together in the book - no theme. I can't believe this book was published.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Story Review: I read this book when it first came out about five years ago. I think it's a wonderful story about a small boy and his best friend. It also is a very good look at what life was like in America, particularly in the South, at a time when things weren't as complicated as they are today and when a kid could really just be a kid. I was born in the early '50's, so I can sort of relate to some of Willie Morris's adventures as a child, even though I grew up in a big city (Memphis, TN). I am currently reading "Spit McGee" and I find it just as cute and charming as "Skip". I can't wait to see the movie. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever owned a dog (I have a 13 year-old beagle) who, while not as energetic as Skip, is just as special to me as Skip was to Willie Morris.
Rating: Summary: My Dog Skip Review: I think this is hands-down my favorite book. In intellectual conversation I'll always say Michael Creighton is my favorite author but this book has such a special place in my heart. It's not any sort of epic novel but it's not meant to be. It's the true story of a man reflecting on his boyhood with his dog. The story is funny, endearing, and most of all - real. This is a must-read if you are a dog lover.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: This book is a love letter to anyone who has ever loved a dog.I too had a special dog and this book brought back many apecial memories of him.If you read this book and have a dog,it will make you want to hug him/her and wish that they will be around forever.
Rating: Summary: My Dog Skip Review: This book was worth the money. Its not the best guide for dog owners but its good. For example he dosn't feed his dog dogfood.I also dissagree with the view on war, but that's my personal view.
Rating: Summary: My Dog Skip Review: We read our book as a group in an education class during our senior block. We all agreed that "My Dog Skip" is a great book for all ages. It is very easy to read, and most people can relate to it especially if you are from the South. It is about a young boy and his relationship with his dog. The author, Willie Morris, does a great job describing details to keep the reader's interest.
Rating: Summary: Skip's impact on Ole Miss Review: We read this book as a group in an education senior block course. After reviewing parts of the book every week, we came to the conclusion that the story has a great meaning to Mississippi natives and residents. His vernacular style of writing related to many Mississippi childhood experiences. We chose our review title because Morris mentions Ole Miss, along with various Mississippi towns throughout his story. His relationship with Skip was one that every child hopes to experience! Their journeys together from beginning to end are sure to put greater emphasis on the theory of "man's best friend". We all agreed!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book!!! Review: We read this book for our education class at The University of Mississippi. This a great book for any ages. Willie Morris is a phenominal writer. His writing style will grab you and pull you right into the book. If you like books about childhoods, animals, or the south this is the book for you. The setting is in a small Mississippi town. We throughly enjoyed this book because it mentioned names of towns that we could relate to, it also mentioned our school, Ole Miss. The relationship that the boy and dog have in this story is unlike any other! Willie Morris takes the reader into many adventures with 'Ol Skip. There are many things that take place in this book that could appel to a wide audience. This book can give anyone the appreciation of what it was like to grow up during a time of war and hard times, and the hard times of just being a kid. This is a book that anyone can read over and over and never get bored!!
