Review: Despite some reviews here that state that Dominick Montiglio was never a Green Beret, never a war hero, maybe never even in combat, I still give this book credence. While Montiglio was a source for this book, it's clear to the reader that he was not truly involved in the Demeo crew but really more of a servant to Nino Gaggi his uncle. So there is no way Montiglio could have known all these horrifying details about many of these murders. Capeci and Mustain would have to have had other sources that they learned about these murders from. The book definitely focuses too much attention on Montiglio, he was basically a down-and-out deadbeat cokehead.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that this book is a complete fabrication. Too much law enforcement has found out too much information about the Demeo crew for someone to think that the information about these murders was fabricated. As for the Dominick Montiglio war hero stuff, well it's a minor part of the book at best so take it with a grain of salt. The real point of this book is that the Mafia is not the Sopranos or The Godfather. It's these people. People who have zero intelligence or practical function on this planet, but who kill innocent people in gruesome ways just so their crimes can continue. This is a very good read.

Review: In response to many of your reviews, thumbs up to those smart enough to determine fact from fiction. For those of you who believe this "thriller" and comment as if you know the characters, all I can say is "poor judgement!" I am one of the fortunate to know many of these men, and all I can say is that this book is extremely exciting to read, but full of nonsense. I only wish today's generation was filled with more of these men. Maybe we should look deeper into the people behind this story, such as Dominic. Another weak and screwed up drug user crying poor me and looking for a pity party. This creature told many lies all to try to make himself look like a hero. As for Roys son, another pity party. Poor thing; so it wasn't drugs but booze, lets blame it on dad.

So go on and enjoy the story, but if you are all that interested, try looking up the actual cases involved and see the real truth. It is then that we might learn a thing or two about what we call justice. A perfect example would be Henry Borelli serving 150 years in a maximum security prison far away from his family, and all for 15 stolen cars; nothing more. God, I have heard of lighter sentences for murder and rape.

Maybe more people should take the time to look deeper into our justice system, before they comment on a book such as this.

Summary: Real Life Sopranos
Review: Murder Machine by Gene Mustain and Jerry Capeci examines the most vicious crew inside the Gambino crime family, known as the DeMeo gang. Roy DeMeo served as leader of the crew. The DeMeo gang killed over 200 people during their reign of terror including many innocent citizens. The rules of the family were to only kill other criminals, but Roy ignored this policy many times. Some say that Roy killed out of pleasure because he would cut his victims into small pieces and dispose of the bodies. This became known as the Gemini Method.
Roy had many conflicts in his life. One of those was when Roy's crew ripped off a Cuban drug dealer and a Cuban gang came from Florida to settle the score. The only way for Roy to get the Cuban gang off of his back was to murder his friend Chris Rosenberg. Chris Rosenberg was a small time drug dealer who only sold small amounts of marijuana. Selling drugs was against the rules of the Gambino crime family but Roy, despite this, took Chris under his belt and loaned him money to sell cocaine. Chris made a lot of money and soon he was working for Roy.
Anthony "Nino" Gaggi was Roy's partner. Nino tried to get Roy keep his violent behavior under control, but when Roy was declared a capo no one could manage his actions. Nino was arrested for loan sharking but was released. Latter his nephew, Dominick, turned in Nino and many others in the crew. Growing up, Dominick lived with his Uncle and was introduced to the Mafia. Dominick served in the Vietnam War as a Green Beret. After the war, unable to find a respectable job and against his true desires, Dominick started to work for his uncle and began killing people for Roy. He became an important person in the Gambino crime family. Later, Dominick Montiglio testified against his Uncle and the rest of the crew. Most of the crew was convicted and Roy was murdered. Mustain and Capeci tell the story of true "mafia life" and show that the Mafia is not as glamorous as it appears to be. Action packed and intriguing, Murder Machine is a real life Sopranos.

Summary: Probably the most gruesome Mafia story ever told
Review: Parts of this book were really gruesome and sickening, but after getting through those parts the story was very interesting. I bought this book because someone else wrote that it was the best Mafia book that they had ever read. I agree with that reviewer. I have lived in New York all my life (a few years in Canarsie and many in Ozone Park, while teaching in Howard Beach). I have always been surrounded by "that life" but I never realized the lengths these people went to to get rid of people that crossed them. Killing wasn't enough...they had to destroy and dismember the bodies as well. The one thing that I would like to know is how the authors got so detailed a story when most of the people involved were dead by the time this book was written, and I can't imagine that anyone with inside connections spoke to them. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the Mafia but keep in mind that parts of this story are degenerate.

Summary: dont read this before you read...
Review: please read 'For The Sins Of My Father' before you read this, because it's written by Albert DeMeo, who is the son of one of the gangsters talked about in 'murder machine'

Summary: True story of grisly murder
Review: This book definetly sent a chill up my spine. It's the true story of Roy DeMeo and his crew of lethel and violent hitmen. They went out on contract killings all across America, from the mean streets of New York to the sunny coast of Florida. The novel's fascinating stories make you crave to read on. It was a real breezer for me. Read it in less than two weeks. The plot and storyline are all true which makes the book at times almost unbelievable. The book is based on Dominac Montiglio, a boy who turns into a man growing up around the Mafia. He tells the story of the DeMeo gang, or nicknamed, the Murder Machine

Summary: Murder Machine: A true Story of Murder,Madness. and the Mafi
Review: This Book is good fiction and little else. Dominick Montiglio is the main source of information for the book. The man is a fruad, was never in the Green Berets, was not a Ranger and never in combat. Murder Machine is a good read if you like fiction. But the parts about Montiglio's combat experiences, and military references are puke making. If you read between the lines you'll see that his whole life he's been a bum and a loser. The authors should be ashamed for trying to pass this book off a a true story.

Summary: Didn't flow
Review: This book just didn't flow smoothly for me. I did find it interesting but also got lost a few times and had to backtrack. Some readers thought it was more fiction than fact. I have no idea since I have no facts to compare to. There obviously is a mafia, crime associated with it, hit men, etc. but I have no reason to dispute the facts I read here. The murder business now seems a lot more brutal than I once thought it was. I am from Philadelphia and travel often on business to New York especially thru Brooklyn. Now I can't drive thru Brooklyn without thinking about the carnage that went on. Overall it's a good book and I would recommend reading it.

Summary: HANDS DOWN BEST MOB BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: This is a very huge book. I read it in like 3 days because it is so engrossing and enthralling and it is just plain CRAZY!! Roy DeMeo is one psychotic man....or should say WAS since they found him in a trunk of a car riddled with bullet holes with a chandelier on top! GREAT BOOK! DONT PASS IT UP! Higly recommended to anyone who digs mob books or movies! The part about the DeMeo crew ordering a pizza while dismembering bodies they hang upside down in the shower is enough to grab your attention but this entire book is very interesting! Great book title too!

Summary: the real mob
Review: This is the real mob,not John Gotti or Al Capone strutting around outside a court house while dozens of reporters follow them around, this is the story of how the bosses get their mansions, cadillacs, and pinkie rings.By sending out vicious thugs to steal, sell drugs, beat up,and occasionaly kill people.A look into the depravity of the most evil mob crew ever.A must read for anyone interested in the mob or even just criminals. As a final thought,I see a few people have problems with Dominick Montiglio, the main source for this book.I have read on the internet that he was never a green beret, and if he lies about this he must lie about everything, right?I don't know but I do know that Jerry Capeci is the foremost expert in the states on the NY mob and I would imagine did plenty of research on this book and had dozens of sources,so even if Montiglio wasn't a green beret(shame on Capeci for not checking if he didn't)I'm sure this book isn't too far from the truth, besides, somebody killed all those people, right?
