Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Nice book.
Review: Well-researched biography that reads almost like a novel. Morally, I do NOT condone government-assisted humanitarian programs. All the same, I can't help but admire aspects of Mr. Hoover. I have misgivings about his undertakings, and about his personal character (which is shown as unprincipled, dishonest, and manipulative). However, his strong, iron-willed direction of the Commission for Relief in Belgium, his work ethic in keeping it afloat, and his skills as an executive and a manipulator of public opinion and government officials, are impressive. A fascinating historical account. END
