Rating: Summary: Poetic Movement Review: I'm Moving Too - by Beka Serdans, R.N. A must read for anyone with dystonia or family members and friends who have dystonia. Beka takes us on a poetic journey through her life as signs and symptoms of cervical dystonia first appear. Beka writes of her feelings and emotions toward having a disease that physically distorts her body and at times shatters her dreams but, in the end can never break her spirit. Beka touched my heart as I intently read each and every word. I wanted to reach out and hug her knowing and feeling the pain and discomfort she was experiencing, I myself, knowing all too well what dystonia can do to the body and soul. I firmly recommend this book for anyone.
Rating: Summary: First-hand Account Review: Ms.Serdans gives an excellent account of her own personal experience with cervical dystonia. This was enlightening and validating to myself and my husband. My husband was recently diagnosed with cervical dystonia, and we read the book with great interest, understanding, and compassion. This book also helped my husband deal with feelings of being perceived as "crazy." He felt tremendous support from the author's own difficulties with this issue, as well as, her clear definition of this disorder being neurological rather than psychological. Again, this author wrote a very eloquent, perceptive, and valuable book for anyone who is suffering from a chronic illness, particularly a movement disorder, such as cervical dystonia.

Rating: Summary: A Must Read for anyone with chronic disease Review: When I first read this book, beginning with the first page, I could not put it down until I reached the end and the "To be Continued" phrase. I went along a journey focusing on disease misdiagnosis, mismangement, treatment failures and success. I found myself sitting with the author in office visits waiting for botulinum toxin injections, clinical trials, experimental therapy ...hoping that all would succeed. Not to be...The cycle of chronic disease and emotions is highlighted by Beka- all written in an unusual style. A tremendous journey...I travel with her to the Alps, the Roman temples, sandy beaches as she takes on the physical challenges of a movement disorder- one present in many other medical conditions including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Huntington's disease and Parkinson's disease. This is a thorough insightful account of a journey that we all can learn from...highly recommendable for healthcare professionals, patients and students. Readable to children.
