Description:

Although Nathan Boone followed in his father Daniel Boone's footsteps as a pioneer, soldier, hunter, and family man, his exploits were less dramatic and less well known. Nevertheless, Nathan Boone was an important figure on the American frontier and was the first Boone to achieve recognition outside Kentucky and Missouri. His service in the army included keeping the peace among native tribes and white settlers. Even more interesting are author R. Douglas Hurt's descriptions of what family life was like in those years. Boone was predominantly a trapper, who was seldom home but whose visits were vividly recalled by his 14 children. (Interestingly, their fond memories didn't prevent them from fighting with their mother over his will.) From the few existing records of Boone's history, Hurt has pieced together an extraordinarily realistic portrait of a frontiersman.
