Rating: Summary: Well written and documented & great photographs. Review: I really enjoyed this book. It took me back to the days of the old Pacific Coast Leqgue. The feelings of the author come across in his admiration for Lefty. The photos and illustrations are wonderful. This book is a real trip back in time for a lover of baseball
Rating: Summary: Great story about a fascinating era. Review: This is a wonderful book for baseball fans and for anyone who enjoys reading about bits of history you don't get in school. I was surprised to read the comments of General MacArthur about Lefty's contribution to establishing ties between Japan and the United States after WWII. I like the fact that the author doesn't present Lefty as some kind of rigid, goody-goody. He was a real human being with his share of faults, which he more than made up for with his positive qualities, on and off the field. The author wants to see Lefty in the American Baseball Hall of Fame. I think he belongs there. And in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame too, if they have one. A great book about an important baseball legend.
