Rating: Summary: Hard-core basketball fan Review: Phil Berger is an extraordinary writer, and I really admire him. His enthusiasm for his subject is apparent and infectious.
Rating: Summary: pete maravich original superstar Review: This book is by far one of the worst I've ever read. Why? Because it is merely a rehash of almost everything already written about Pistol Pete. Instead of searching for fresh, insightful material about Pete Maravich (and there must be volumes of this),who was an immensely talented and enigmatic person, the author instead relies on long-ago published quotes, statistics and observations. The only new material includes very private details about his and his family's lives - details better left uncovered. Certainly people deserve to know the truth, but not ten years after the subject is dead. No purpose is served by this. The author needed to spend more time editing the final draft. The last page of the photo section shows a picture of Pete and Press Maravich, who is referred to as one of Pete's former high school coaches. It's obvious that the author cared more about getting the book out quickly than making sure the information is correct. If, by now, the author cannot identify Press Maravich correctly, one must wonder about the validity of the rest of the information.
Rating: Summary: A review or a Fantastic book on "The Pistol" by Rick Penrod Review: This is a fantastic recollection of the greatest scorer and ball-handler in the history of the game. Phil Berger captivates his readers with new insights and stories about Pete and his father, Press, since Pete's ill-fated death in 1988. I have every book written on Pete Maravich that to my knowledge has been published. Great book Mr. Berger! ....
