Rating: Summary: Like an old friend Review: I have always loved Scott Hamilton. Maybe it is because he comes from Bowling Green, OH, and that is where my dad is from. Maybe it is because he has overcome so much adversity in his life. Or, maybe it is because he is a fantastic figure skater. I think, it is a little of all three.I was living in Ohio (just a few miles down the road from Bowling Green) at the time when Scottie was making it big in professional skating. We were so excited to have a local boy in the Olympics. And we rallied around him even more as we were told the story of his ill-health as a child, an illness that stunted his growth. Over the years, we all grew up. If there was ice skating on TV, I hoped that Scottie would be there too..in any capacity, commentating, or skating..but I preferred skating. Then, a few years ago IT happened. Cancer. And once again, Scottie overcame the illness and came back on the ice. This book is a wonderful look at what life was like for Scott Hamilton. About the work he put into figure skating, and what life is like on the road. He has bared his soul for this book, and brought himself into more hearts than ever before. This is a highly recommended book for anyone who likes to read biographies, wants insight into life of a figure skater, or perhaps for someone living with cancer who wants inspiration!! I laughed and cried when I read this book. Cried alot! I don't know that I could have handled myself with as much dignity as Scott did. I salute him!
Rating: Summary: Brought tears to my eyes Review: I have never really known much about Scott Hamilton (or any make skater for that matter) and this books demonstrates the immense sacrifices that he made to be where he is today. Though recommended for readers that have an appreciation for the sport, it is an easy read and completely heart-felt. Scott has an incredible gift for touching many lives and this book tells you about how he uses this gift on and off the ice. Telling the story about one of the most genuine and pure people you will ever read about, "Landing It" brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion as well as giving me a new outlook on the skating world that I so admire. It was a true privilege to learn more about this incredible person.
Rating: Summary: Well, I thought he was a class act... Review: Scott doesn't try to pretty things up and tells about a lot of his escapades off the ice as well as on. I know he's human but would have preferred to keep my image of him a bit less tarnished. However, I do appreciate his honesty and loved the inside look at the skating world and his reluctance to "tell tales" or gossip. I can sympathize with him on his various losses as I have also lost my parents way before I should have. Scott is a remarkable skater and this book lets you get behind the scenes. One question for Scott: are you sure that you aren't in love with Katia?
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: Scott really makes the reader feel as if they are a part of the story. He provides an in-depth view into his personal triumphs and tragedies. Great book!
Rating: Summary: Scott Hamilton Not Only Lands It, He Nails It! Review: This is by no means a self-serving autobiography, it is a journey that Scott Hamilton takes his readers through. Scott has somehow managed to be an objective spectator of his own experience and takes the reader on a tour that is both revealing and refreshing in its honesty. Here is the history about a common, everyday person facing hardships, obstacles and losses juxtaposed with fame and fortune. This is a story about the yin and yang of tradegy and triumph. In this book, Scott reveals some of the politics of the Olympics and his feelings about the rules governing figure skating. He wears his heart on his sleeve throughout the book. The emotions (good or bad) that he has experienced are all in there for you to read. He, also reveals some of his love interests. I was surprised by one of them! This book is a MUST read for Scott Hamilton fans, friends and anyone facing challenges. This book is a MUST read for any figure skating fan! For Scott Hamilton to have authored this book must have taken a great deal of soul searching. I applaud him for this book, as I have everytime that he has taken the "ice" since I first saw him in 1979. Kudos to you Scott, wherever you are!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book!! Review: Triples, flying sit-spins, axels, performances sprinkled with humor, strength, technical artistry, battling cancer, inspiring, motivating, showcasing legions of other skaters-- and still landing it with courage and grace is Scott Hamilton. I enjoyed this book which allows us to hear "his voice". Those who have faced cancer tend to look back at their life journey and re-evaluate their past behavior and decisions. So his apologies are understandable, part of the healing process, and enhances his maturity as a human being and a mega talented person. The man is courage personified on and off the ice. The book is refreshing in its honesty and approach.
Rating: Summary: A maze of fragmented ramblings. Review: What an incredible book. I can't think of many people who wouldn't know who Scott Hamilton is. I'm willing to bet that this book will reveal things about him that even his biggest fans didn't realize. The incredible thing to me is that Scott, who is clearly and extraordinary man, sees himself as being a short, bald guy who ice skates and like to entertain. He's very human and his story is very touching.
One of the things I really liked about this book is that it's so honest and sincere. I walked away realizing that you don't have to be super human be an extraordinary person. Scott didn't do everything in his life right, not by a long shot, and he certainly wasn't blessed by genetics ... yet he's turned himself into an incredible athlete and entertainer. I've always been a casual ice skating fan. I don't really go out of my way to watch ice skating, but I enjoy it when it's on. I've read a ton of biographies and autobiographies about all kinds of people. Landing It is my favorite in that category. It's an enjoyable read about a pretty amazing short, bald guy who ice skates. Keep landing them Scott!
