Summary: Misses the mark
Review: "Homely angel" Clara Barton was a shy, self-conscious child who hid from the outside world until she discovered a talent for caring for the ill and infirmed. This talent bloomed on the bloody battlefields of the Civil War, and in later life, she became instrumental in creating an American chapter of the International Red Cross. This small chapter book focuses on the childhood and career of Clara Barton, backtracks into the history of the International Red Cross and then tells how Clara spent her later years. The writing is unimaginative and the illustrations sloppy, but the story does help children understand the seriousness of war and the importance of helping victims of any kind of disaster. This book will probably not be very attractive to young children, but this biography of a famous American woman could be a worthwhile addition to a school library or classroom.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good Informative Children's Book
Review: I thought that this book was very informative and interesting. It contained details that I never knew about Clara Barton and the Red Cross. A very interesting story about a woman who became a professional nurse and started an important organization.
