Rating: Summary: A great biography for young people Review: If you want the facts about one of baseball's most legendary players, this is an informative and inspiring biography. "Joltin' Joe" details DiMaggio's entire career and life, beginning in childhood as the son of a hard-working immigrant family and his rise to All-Star center fielder for the New York Yankees. All his important career statistics are included, plus a game-by-game summary of his record-setting 56-game consecutive hitting streak. Illustrated with many famous photos and some rare ones, too. A terrific introduction to a man who led his life with grace and dignity.
Rating: Summary: Great timing, no facts, just awful Review: Somebody gave my kid this book for a present along with a few other books. It's the only book my son has ever thrown out in the garbage, and I can't say I blame him. Questions:1. Who would issue a kids' book about Joe Dimaggio in the year 2000? What's next, a book about Ty Cobb for toddlers? 2. Where are the stats, the facts, the truth? 3. Whose idea was it to forget all the great records Joe set BESIDES the hitting streak? This book is to sports writing what tuna fish is to steak. I am just sorry my friend spent any money on this at all. What a waste of time!
