Summary: Divergence
Review: I read the book out of curiosity:the Author has been at Stony Brook while I was there (we never met)and she had met God at SB! I thought that,at the time, the place (and the catholic community)needed a good exorcist... Indeed, she un-describes very well the "priest without qualities"who received her in the Church. I will be always very grateful that she informed about the sexual "orientation" of the catholic "ministers" at that time. (Should I say "disorientation"?)
I have to accept that the "Compelle intrare" applies also to a suburbian woman(IMHO ,one of the lowest forms of life). I do not see in the book any sense of the Divine Majesty or the Beauty of the Universe. Instead, she entertains us with her gynecological troubles and sterility. The Rachel of the Bible said it better:"Give me sons,or I shall die" (and she died in labor and ,therefore, happy (Genesis 30 and 35).)
About the "religious experiences" and "visions" I only say:"Testis unus, testis nulus".
To me, the Catholic Church is first and foremost "a History ,a Pride, a Race", therefore I have the gratest respect for Orthodox Judaism (anyway, the Roots are Holy). It is hard to me to understant that she left that TRADITION by the ecumenism of "Tout le monde il est beau, tout le monde il est gentille" of Taize.
To finish with a positive note: The French philosopher Leo Brunschvicg would had loved the story of the mother of the Author and the shrimp roll....
