Summary: This Book is not The Real Deal
Review: Holyfield: The Humble Warrior, is really just a skim over what really could be a cream of a story. Evander Holyfield has a whole other life outside of what his brother has allowed us to see - and none of it is revealed in this story.

The book is a biased view of Evander Holyfield based on what Holyfield would let his brother tell us and what Evander himself would allow in the book. There isn't a lot of meat between the bread in this story. One gets the feeling that Evander and his brother are telling only half of a story and leave out all the nitty-gritty details that could really complete the entire picture.

It really tells little of the alleged heart problems that Evander suffered after his title-losing fight with Michael Moorer in 1994, or why Evander suddenly lost all of his hair over a span of about six months. There isn't much here about Evander's legendary womanizing and carousing.

The book is mainly a chronological tale of a man who went from a poor boy to a rich fighter. What I'm saying is that there is no punch to the book, no entertainment value. Bernard Holyfield isn't the one who should be telling this story. Evander deserves someone like Norman Mailler because Evander Holyfield has a Trump-sized ego and a great life story to tell - but it's not in this book which reads more like a glorified press-release.

Summary: excellent account of one of the best boxers of all time
Review: This is a great book focusing on one the of the best boxers ever. Berard Holyfield writes very well and has an excellent awareness of the times he and his brother, Evander, lived through.
